It's like if Lovecraft's extradimensional non-Euclidean entities were really cool and friendly, instead of uncaring incomprehensible sanity-blasters for whom a human existence doesn't register on any level whatsoever.
Things I love about this: 1. The fact that, by sheer coincidence, the human arrived at the exact time that the music sounded normal to humans. 2. The way the DJ, a multidimensional musical being, sounds, at least in the range of sound we can hear, like he has an accent of some sort. 3. The DJ is a multidimensional being who can perceive more than 3 dimensions, more sound& light waves than us, and more knowledgeable than us, is still kind enough to help the human adjust to the craziness of the club. Not the music overlord we deserve, but the one we need.
My personal theory that this club is an interdimensional rehab for socially anxious.Once in a while someone gets dragged in, and gently nudged in the direction of shifting perspective That's why all the club participants are so eager to dance with a newbie, they've ALL been in the same situation, and are now happy to pass the bravery onto our 3-dimensional fella Maybe, for sake of keeping the simple mind -+- stable, the only type of creatures that is allowed to be in the club while newbie is joining in, is similar to theirs, aka visible enough, material enough, and preferrably with similar inner structure
Seeing just how much the DJ helps the guy, maybe he takes humans (and in general beings similar to us) to his club everytime the music can be heard by them. The cha cha cha being his favorite style of music apparently
The benefit of being an omnidimensional being is that if a billion visitors materialise in the club, you can simply split yourself into a billion instances to give each one a personalised introduction.
Dude really hit him with the "imagine an alternate reality where everything is exactly the same except you're not a buzzkill loser that is afraid to dance, lmao" absolutely brutal
Sometimes you need that harsh eye opener. "This dude is exactly like you. He's lived the same life, he acts like you, walks like you, talks like you. But when it comes to boogie-ing it down on the dancefloor, this guy does so with no hesitation... so why can't you? Go out there and dance your heart out, bub!"

One detail I haven't seen people talking about is how, in the begining, the "main character" of the animation is gray. But at 02:19, after he loses his fear of dancing, he becomes yellow, just like his alternate version. Nice touch!
It briefly gave me existential dread, but then it pulled me away from that and I let the beat consume my mind again. Quickest I've ever snapped back from the dread
I really like the implication that, despite there being countless dimensions that hold entities that are limited to seeing a set number of them, and despite the impossibly vast distances and differences across the entirety of reality, music is still a through-line that lets anyone and everyone connect. This time, it just so happens to be a Cha Cha.
I just realized- towards the end, when one of the guys tries to take a drink, it flows upwards- earlier in the song, the human had been hit with a stream of liquid that looked like that same drink. My dude just had someone spill their drink on him across space time.
I really, REALLY love the little blobs at 2:22 that go "LLLAAA!" I hadn't picked it out of the song until I watched the music video, and now I hear it each listen and it makes me laugh every single time.
Cosmic Comfort really does fit. The scene with Void especially. The DJ basically says "Ya, The Void consumes everything eventually, but even the Void likes to dance and enjoys fruity cocktails, and gets a little wild now and then." It's the fact the DJ makes the effort to not just open the MC's mind to the universe, but to show there is no real hostility to it. That fact if you Vibe to the Universe, the Universe will Vibe with you that takes it from low-key cosmic horror to the as-named Cosmic Comfort.
Absolutely wild when you relisten and try to catch all the little background things supporting the thread. The development of the piano riff, the left-right split in the chorus to give the hectic vibe of people shouting at you from both sides, the perfect little hoo-hoos, the gradual buildup of the big band backing to full-on System of a Down grandiosity at 2:37. And then god-tier animation to match that quality. 🤌
Wholeheartedly agree. The complexity and detail is just fantastic, so much is packed in but it all works together so harmonioualy, matching the perfect chaos of our reality. If I'd just listened to the track first my hopes for a video to do this glorious track justice would have been very low, but Shoocharu nailed it with this masterpiece of an animated vid! Brb, going to listen to this song whilst transcendentally cha cha-ing continuously for the next few days
The little breaks like "But if you're scared to dance..." and "Sometimes this song goes [***]" also give contrast to enjoy just how overjoyously HECTIC the whole thing is :)
I live in constant fear of the moment I pass from this mortal realm into the next, but at least I will know that before that happens I danced my heart out
I love the fact that in the beggining he says “a little warning to the dancers that only perceive in three dimensions this next one’s is a bit of a doozee” I MEAN THEYRE MANIACS AND MULTI DIMENSIONAL ENTITIES BUT THEYRE CONSCIOUS ABOUT EACHOTHER’S LIMITATIONS THATS SO CUTE

I listened to this for a week straight after it came out, went to the gay bar after work, and danced so hard that I dislocated my knee. Worth it, though, bc this me is no longer shit scared to hit the dance floor. Thanks, Tom & co!

Some of Tom's more recent songs have had a hard-to-describe "hopeful" effect on me. Like they erase some of my fear and anxiety, reassure me that everything is fine, and then replace that with hope of a better future. I can't think of any other artist that does this quite so potently. He has a unique talent. It's like the polar opposite of cosmic horror.
I have come to refer to it as "existentially gratifying". Putting things into perspective in such a concise way, your entire life is a blink in the cosmos's eye, so why not HIT THE DANCE FLOOR, CHA CHA CHA
THAT FUCKING NOTE! The one he starts at like 2:33 and carries on until 2:48? It blows me away every time, I get chills. It's amazing and it's my favourite part in the song and I'm so excited for it every time.
The idea of an omnipotent cosmic entity that perceieves all of space and time throughout the multiverse simultaneously becoming a DJ to weave the chaos of everything into song is fantastic
You're only perceiving him that way right here and now because you slid to the left. When you slide back to the right, he'll have turned into something different. The Transcendental Cha Cha Cha will have become in your eyes a Transcendental cookie and the DJ will be the baker whose face is never seen, but whose presence you must infer because the cashier clearly didn't bake this thing.
I can't get this song out of my head. It is silly, absurd, but also subverts the idea of unknowable cosmos and dimensions as not something of a mind-destroying horror, but as a upbeat uplifting source of wonder. It is the Infinite Improbability Drive from the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, but as a Jukebox and no matter how often i've listened to it. It keeps managing to put a extra bit of spring in my step and every frame of the animation is burnt into my head to the point i don't need to watch the video to see it anymore.
This, exactly! And best of all, we START with the protagonist reacting like it's cosmic horror. He's barely clinging to his sanity as incomprehensible creatures accost him from all sides. Then the DJ intervenes to help him loosen up and dance to the rhythm. Metaphorically, it's a story about not being afraid of the unknown, and accepting the absurdity inherent to our existences. Poor old Lovecraft never could've wrapped his head around such notions, as his mind was too tangled in anxiety, trauma, and xenophobia for such ideas to be anything other than frightening.
@@PotatoPatatoVonSpudsworthwell, until a couple years before he died of cancer and open sourced his work, yeah. Shame that it took facing his own mortality for him to loosen up a little bit, but that's unfortunately how it goes for a lot of us mere humans.
The fact that it's elevated to the power of 42, 42 being the meaning of everything in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, therefore zumba is the meaning of everything and i think it's amazing 0:39
I like the idea that it's just a random homeless guy who plays the keyboard for money, that's been suddenly transported there but is still jamming it out
0:45 I like how this isn't just a reference to hitchhikers guide to the galaxy but an answer, the preceding question, the response, and the context to THE question. In a place where all reality collides and exists all at once, what is inexplicably constant across all of them? And what are the odds of that happening? So apparently the outcome of the question for which the answer is 42, is Zumba.
but doesn't knowing both the answer and the question at the same time reset the universe into a more complexe iteration to make knowing both the question and the answer harder ? but I guess it does not apply in a place where the void do breakdance.
Ok if you look carefully, you can see that slowly he gets more and more comfortable, but it isn’t until 2:57 that he actually falls in love with the song and it happens when he sees Ricardo. I think it’s Ricardo that finally got him out of his shell. Props to Ricardo.
If you actually payed attention you would see that he is comfortable once he goes back to the club because thats when his character changes from grey to colored. Way to miss the point.
Not enough of this song is about how cosmically important it is that, despite all statistical probability, every single planet in the multiverse got Zumba. Thank god they all did, imagine living on a planet without Zumba. Be enough to drive you crazy!
Every populated planet also has CrossFit, but on all planets except Earth bragging about your CrossFit regimen is a crime. We have a ways to go before we’re ready to join the galactic community.
Ooooooh, there is SO MUCH going on in this song, I didn't catch that. The amount of detailwork that was made on this song to give it varied... texture goes SO hard, this is the peak of feel good songs :)
I love how the human starts out with dull, almost Gray colours. Then as the song goes on he starts being affected by the colours in the room, and then by the 2:21 he's become a brownish/orange colour. Then by the end is overly saturated like the rest of the creatures in the animation! It's such a fun detail
I think it also represents the human’s ability to literally _see_ the colors that constitute that plane of reality. The line at 2:23 basically confirms it. The DJ character could be speaking metaphorically, but… that’s less fun, honestly.
@@meltingmugI mean, I feel like in the world this music video builds, the metaphorical interpretation and the literal ability to perceive all the colors are one and the same
It feels like that moment where everyone except one person in a call has nothing to say and everyone shuts up to listen to the one banger comment/joke the one person makes. Absolute chaos until sudden clarity then immediately back to the chaos once its over.
What the DJ doesn't tell you is that as soon as you enter the club you are split into infinite variations of yourself all in a state of quantum superposition where you both exist and not exist at the same time until observed. Lucky for you the DJ chooses to observe the version of you having the best time of your life!
I'm not sure whether this was fully intentional (but considering Shoocharu's insane attention to detail, it wouldn't surprise me) but the golden record that the DJ holds/throws at 3:13 seems very reminiscent of the Voyager Golden Record, a real record sent into space that contains languages, images, sounds, and *music* from all over the world, as a kind of record of the human experience. It's a super cool project and a reference to it in a song like this is super fitting :) also, this song is incredible. Tom Cardy really knocked it out of the park with this one and Shoocharu's animation style fits it PERFECTLY!
What I find really impressive is that when you listen to this with headphones, it sounds like you are literally flying through this whole adventure at a rapid pace, because of how he mixed multiple "voices" and spatial audio.
I'm wondering why the specifically mentioned champagne after space-time and gravity in 0:24. Like, is it such a good drink that it has the same importance in the universe as space-time and gravity or what?
I can also smell it, but can't really describe the smell or taste, are you getting a thick mouth texture of just me? Ever had powdery stew residue, I'm getting something close to that thickness and partial graininess, kinda paste like how tomato paste is
I've been either listening to this song and/or watching the video about 3 times a day since it came out, I just love it so much, this feels like the perfect representation of what I imagine seeing in all dimensions must be like. Seeing all possible timelines of all possible multiverses all at once isn't even 5 or 6 dimensions anymore, it's probably 12 or something.
It feels oddly appropriate that RUclips says this was released 6 minutes ago, yet the first comments say "2 days ago". All time and space exists at once, I suppose. (tom's enlightened subscribers have opened their third eye and embraced an expansion of consciousness, clearly.)
More accurately the video was unintentionally made public for a short time two days ago, as a premiere, then immediately slammed back to private. *_Or rather this is the answer the universe has retconned into existence to explain what cannot be. We are impossible, and yet we are inevitable._*
I know there's a little bit here for everyone, which is the beautiful chaotic point, but anyone else keep replaying that "Blink! You're an old French dandy" part? The suddenness of the tone change AND the art style shift really gets me.
2:28 is where this song goes so INCREDIBLY hard. The whole song is good, but Tom's greatest talent is to make the bridge slap so hard it allows you to transcend time and space. Bravo.
i mean it IS literally that. it has more layers of abstraction but the whole thing can be summarized by "this guy is afraid to dance at the club" and the song is literally just a very exaggerated, "transcendental" way for him to get over that fear
full volume on headphones isn't enough, I need this song to hit my whole body with the power of giant concert speakers also I am in love with the DJ's design
This video is like a job fair of warlock patrons. If the cosmic DJ isn’t hiring, you can grab a pamphlet from the “giant blob that contains a slice of pizza and whispers secrets about the heat death of the multiverse” booth.
Oh my god I just saw with the alternate universe “you” in one of the images there’s the sun and the crescent moon just like the DJ’s face. That is such a cool small detail!
Everything all at once, the DJ has witnessed perfection, despair, meaninglessness, the beginning and the end and even sees a version of you not scared to dance and has decided to show you the reality of reality in order to show you that you should just dance and go with the flow
Tom is the closest I’ve seen to a modern They Might Be Giants, absurdist existential themes made by someone who understands music theory and production to higher levels than most people realize, it’s beautiful.
I was about to enhance this comment by saying that it doesn't only bang but [...] Buuuuut I don't think RUclips would be happy with me listing increasingly intense synonyms for sexual intercourse ^^'
A story of a man slowly conquering his anxiety of being in public thanks to the help of the disembodied voices of the universe themselves. Sure, some mind breaking realizations were involved, but in the end, he is at peace with dance, himself, his urge to boogie, and he lets himself let go of his worries. What a lovely video and song.
I like how these songs have gone from "oh, that totaly happened to him this morning and now he made a fun little song about it!" to "INTERDIMENTIONAL BEINGS EXPLAIN THE MULTIVERSE" while still being relatible, truly a talent
Sometimes I'm in the mood to put on dance moves over what I'm listening to at the moment. But this... This is one of the rare songs that _trigger_ that state rather than the reverse, and it's a huge compliment on Tom's musical abilities :)

It's like if Lovecraft's extradimensional non-Euclidean entities were really cool and friendly, instead of uncaring incomprehensible sanity-blasters for whom a human existence doesn't register on any level whatsoever.
Things I love about this:
My personal theory that this club is an interdimensional rehab for socially anxious.Once in a while someone gets dragged in, and gently nudged in the direction of shifting perspective
That's why all the club participants are so eager to dance with a newbie, they've ALL been in the same situation, and are now happy to pass the bravery onto our 3-dimensional fella
Maybe, for sake of keeping the simple mind -+- stable, the only type of creatures that is allowed to be in the club while newbie is joining in, is similar to theirs, aka visible enough, material enough, and preferrably with similar inner structure
Seeing just how much the DJ helps the guy, maybe he takes humans (and in general beings similar to us) to his club everytime the music can be heard by them.
The cha cha cha being his favorite style of music apparently
Well that's the thing, It's not that it sounded normal to humans, Just the part of the sound he can perceive sounds normal to humans.

0:42 To the power of 42!
I have found a new aesthetic and it’s cosmic comfort
my favourites of toms music is perfectly summed by this
...you know my term so far has been anti-cosmic horror but cosmic comfort fits a lot better
Cosmic Comfort really does fit. The scene with Void especially. The DJ basically says "Ya, The Void consumes everything eventually, but even the Void likes to dance and enjoys fruity cocktails, and gets a little wild now and then."
It's the fact the DJ makes the effort to not just open the MC's mind to the universe, but to show there is no real hostility to it. That fact if you Vibe to the Universe, the Universe will Vibe with you that takes it from low-key cosmic horror to the as-named Cosmic Comfort.
Ironically reminds me of a video called “cosmic horror…but cosy?”
The amount of sheer, unquantifiable rizz condensed into that "If you're too scared to dance, don't worry. Just relax." is making me weak
Really putting the "Love" in Lovecraft, eh?
Too accurate, help me!

This has to be Tom's most well-produced song yet. I mean, goddamn, talk about musical texture. The sheer amount of stuff going on here is insane

Also Halloween's just around the corner so... xD
Idea: using galaxy pattern fabric as a cape for the tail
Making plans! 🤩 Gonna need a green screen!!
Tom is the closest I’ve seen to a modern They Might Be Giants, absurdist existential themes made by someone who understands music theory and production to higher levels than most people realize, it’s beautiful.
THIS GOES CRAZY??? Can we just quickly mention how awesome the Voids design is and how Tom was able to hold that EPIC high note???
2:35 never listened to this song before but right about here my heart stopped and i fell in love
I SHOULDVE BEEN WEARING HEADPHONES
2:31 the continuity of the DJ holding that note for the entire time. Good for him honestly
This song doesn't just slap, it backhands, punches, drop kicks, clubs, 360 no scopes, thermo nuclear air strikes, and super novas!
I was about to enhance this comment by saying that it doesn't only bang but [...]
Buuuuut I don't think RUclips would be happy with me listing increasingly intense synonyms for sexual intercourse ^^'
It exists in a quantum superposition of slapping and not-slapping until you hit Play and collapse the waveform.
all at once, too
A story of a man slowly conquering his anxiety of being in public thanks to the help of the disembodied voices of the universe themselves. Sure, some mind breaking realizations were involved, but in the end, he is at peace with dance, himself, his urge to boogie, and he lets himself let go of his worries. What a lovely video and song.
This is some high functioning insanity right here. I love it.
I like how these songs have gone from "oh, that totaly happened to him this morning and now he made a fun little song about it!" to "INTERDIMENTIONAL BEINGS EXPLAIN THE MULTIVERSE" while still being relatible, truly a talent
This is still a thing that will happen to him yesterday morning
@@Amari_the_Artist The phrasing of that sentence is very timey-wimey
Not ironically, I've never felt as inspired as I am right now for this song. The song and the animation combined perfectly, this was an experience
Sometimes I'm in the mood to put on dance moves over what I'm listening to at the moment.
But this... This is one of the rare songs that _trigger_ that state rather than the reverse, and it's a huge compliment on Tom's musical abilities :)
The progression on Void wearing tearaway pants is so crisp
The world at 1:11 has different sun/moon, like the eyes of the DJ. I only noticed it after viewing the video about 20 times. These little details are really awesome.
"Witness perfection" we all did when this song hits our ears and the video hits our eyes 🙏🏽
I've been hearing this on repeat the last days, I guess they really meant that
*The music is always playing from the start to end of time. It's always playing in your mind.*
Pls help me, I can't stop it
help me too.. pLEASE I CANT STOP
Same
But I don't want to stop it :D
Same
don't let it twist up your inside
Tom "The Bard" Cardy is dropping a new track? Oh no... I don't think I'll be able to contain my excitement. That's it for me, lads.
How was this comment posted two days ago when the video was posted one hour ago
@@Whistlingrover7 It was posted in an alternate universe where this video was posted 2 days ago and then it leaked into this through the Transcendental Cha Cha Cha.
@@Equiliari Huh. That *would* explain why I don't exactly remember leaving that one...
Try a whole album. 18th of October

No one will ever convince me that the DJ is straight.
fool that you are, thinking concepts such as straight or not matter to the Cosmic DJ
he is every gender and sexuality all at once and never
@@starboundMagicianHe is also every gender and no gender all at once. Including all the different sexes fungi can have.
