Completely agreeing back Patrick. Well I imagine you have plenty of time to learn your new Iridium GO while waiting to have your float plan cleared ...
@@howtosailoceans1423 Yeah --- Not going anywhere anytime soon. All sailing in France is illegal now. That's OK. More important stuff going on around us..... Stay safe my friend.

Interesting camera angle at 2:56. Oh yeah, for $30, you could have bought a pretty good set of clippers and accessories and done your own buzz cut for years to come.
Kevin, your video skills are continually improving. I love the video clarity and the positioning of your camera to capture incredible scenes. It's almost like being on board. I could almost "feel" the pitching and rolling of the vessel. This COVID-19 thing really has me chomping at the bit these days, but at least we've had a few days of milder weather so I can resume working on my new sailboat construction project. I've been living vicariously through you and your videos to help keep me sane throughout the winter here in Maine (snowed the night before last). There's been a break in the weather for today so I'll be back at it, but the forecast calls for snow tomorrow. I hope you're able to avoid the Coronavirus and stay healthy. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks for continuing to do what you do!
Thanks mate. Well social distancing shouldn't have an impact on boat work so long as the hardware stores are still open. I'm also beginning to hear rumblings that the infection rate is slowing, fingers crossed ...
I have limited bandwidth as most live aboard do, but your vid's are played in 720p! Great footage of pure sailing! Loved the shots of your ingenuous autohelm at the end!
Thank you, Kevin. I think it’s great how you are so laid back and take it as it comes with sailing. We could all take a leaf out of your book, especially now fear/ concern are taking hold of people’s daily lives. “Sayshell”
You made my day Kevin we are on lock down here on the north. Absolutely fantastic video. I can actually see the wind vane working it was so clear thanks mate cheers stay safe.
Another enjoyable vlog. Thanks - a great diversion from being cooped up in CT. Marinas here are considered non-essential businesses and are all closed to boat owners - what were they thinking? ;-) I cannot get on my boat to do all the boat work I had planned. Watching your channel is a nice fallback option. Stay safe.
Every time you're in the gulf stream, I find myself thinking about the painting "the gulf stream" by Winslow Homer. Being a European, I hope to experience it myself one day.
Another great video Kevin, we're waiting for the 3rd to order our head gasket and thermostat, then we're headed south asap... hope you pull into Hampton Virginia, and say hi, we're anchored outside of Old Point Comfort Marina... fair winds hon...
"Getting old" and planning on continuing to do so. With such limited acreage to work with, you do still keep coming up with such interesting new camera angles. :)
She might be plunging but at least she’s not pounding! Best video you’ve had in a long time. My advice: stay out there; duck this whole Coronavirus thing. And I would add that your haircut was perfect timing - a valuecut at a time when some of us can’t get haircuts since all barber shops are closed.
Of course another great video....highest quality production value and true content of a real ocean passage. My only negative comment is that you need to go easy on the shots of the " Gulf Stream Blue Water" for us old mariners currently on the hard...this could be considered cruel and unusual punishment. Thanks for All You Do To Keeping Are Craft Real! "Beyond All Things Is The Sea" Seneca
Watching your video I wounded if you know about bowsprit travelers that make it really easy to set and take down your jib? I head this on my 36 ft gaff cutter and it worked really well. I used it when I had a 800 sq ft goaster up. Just let the out hall go and the luff would come back to the boat. I had a self tenching for stay.
Great to see you out at sea again. One question (maybe you already told): the coach roofs of Ruth Avery, are they sealed with canvas on top and then painted? Thnx as always for sharing.
So, how do you deal with the risk of falling overboard while underway? I would thing with autopilot set, falling overboard would be very unlucky, probably fatal, no?
Did you paint your hull yourself? My gelcoat is in desperate need of a redo and I want my hull to be black. I keep hearing that black is really hard to make look right and your boat looks flawless
Nifty doo. Looks like you lost a fight with an errant FlowBee, but it works! Do you ever just drop a sea anchor, and go for a swim in the warmer waters, or do you wait until you're at anchor in a harbour?
Some great footage of Knox Johnson and Suhaili charging along self steering, he'd dive in off the bow and as her transom sailed by he'd grab the railing, foot on the rudder stocks and heave himself back aboard! 😲
Kevin, if you still can go to Europe this summer it’s a really good idea, I think. You will do your quarantine at sea. And the Covid 19 will probably be under control then. Not in the USA sadly. It’s only the beginning and the peak will arrive next summer. It will be horrible for sure.
How to Sail Oceans Good idea. Also I would be surprised if the Canadian border will reopen anytime soon. So probably no stop in Nova Scotia or Newfoundland for you en route to Europe. Stay safe and continue your good work Kevin.
Hey Kevin. Question: What is you sleep regimen on this trip? Also, nice haircut! Now you have no "hair care" issues. I got one just like it at Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1967.
When I'm offshore I'll sleep an hour or two at a time, mostly at night. In settled weather it is typically only 5 or 10 minutes between naps, just enough to check on things.
I have a kitchen timer that I set for 15 to 30 minutes depending on where I am and the amount of general ship traffic. I always use a sleep mask to cover my eyes, even if I'm not sleeping, as I find that it makes me rest more as I'm day dreaming and not looking at things in the boat. I try to do this during the day as well as it is quite restful.

Yes, overboard is fatal when you are solo. Always remembering that seems the best way to prevent falling over.
One technique I’ve heard of is to drag a 200’ line behind the boat with loops every so often and a float on the end.
