I have arthritis throughout my body, so for many years paid no attention to the pain in my primary thumb joint -- way up near my wrist. Unlike other arthritic joints, the pain would would make itself known after sunset - almost felt as if the associated flesh were being abraded with an emery board, and it would often wake me in the night. I now think being a quart low on estrogen is probably the culprit there.

Thank you for your comment. Apple cider vinegar has lots of good general benefits, and at A Vogel UK we often recommend to drink heaps more plain water and try Devil’s claw for aches and pains.

Check out Devil’s claw herbal remedy and try a cup or 2 of nettle tea for joint pain. It might be a good idea to make an appointment with your GP to check out any pain and inflammation too.

Thank you Eileen for this great information 👍👍
Please is it possible in menopause to suddenly develop a problem with fruitsugar, and then leading to symptoms like joint pain?
I noticed my pain was increasing after eating fruit.
    Could there be a link?
Or is this just coincidental, because of low estrogen ?
    I’m post-menopausal.
Might this all ease off at some time?
    Thank you so much 🙏

      Hi C.C.
Yes, this can certainly happen. We can become very sensitive to sugars both added ones and also ones present in our foods such as fruit sugars. It is difficult to say whether this will continue or resolve as it is different for every one.
Very often this happens because the sugars are absorbed very quickly so you may find that having a little fruit along with other foods may help. I know that we are advised to eat fruit alone but if you like it as part of your diet then adding it in with other foods such as full fat yogurt (try berries or stewed pears or apples to start with) can often work well and see how you get on.
I tend to react to fruits if I eat too many; it just causes me extreme fatigue (blood sugars go mad!) so I limit fruit with yogurts, as part of a salad that has an oil dressing or, as a rare treat, with organic full fat cream! :)

      Hi Katie
Here in the UK we have a wild weed/herb called Nettle and this is known to help with joint inflammation so we often recommend taking it daily as a tea. You can but the tea in health shops and it's made with boiling water.

@@MS-sr1fe I use a lot of estrogen & very little progesterone because it makes my joints hurt worse. My progesterone is prescription I cut the 5 mg in half & take 2.5 mg daily to prevent uterine cancer since I do use so much estrogen cream. Estriol is the estrogen of pregnancy, estradiol is the estrogen of youth, estrone is the estrogen that takes up residence in belly fat. Bi-estro is 2 mg estriol + .5 mg estradiol per pump from the bottle. It takes 30 mg of estriol to equal 1 mg of estradiol. The Estriol 5 is 5 mg of estriol per pump. I have osteoarthritis in both feet, both knees, both hips, both shoulders & both hands. I use one 5 mg pump on each joint twice a day. I also put 2 pumps on the inside of my forearm three times a day. Here is also a hormone fact that you won't really find except in truly scientific places. Progesterone causes weight gain & breast cancer, estrogen causes weight loss & uterine cancer. Progesterone also causes osteoporosis & estrogen prevents osteoporosis. If you have a uterus you need some progesterone to protect against uterine cancer. The prescription estrace pill has 1 mg estradiol + .5 mg progesterone. I use Estriol 5 because I have so many joints affected now at 61 years old, and it takes 30 mg of estriol to equal 1 mg estradiol and I take 2.5 mg provera. Oh, the estrogen cream is over the counter no prescription needed.

Well I have stiff ankles particularly in the morning. But I have an added issue with legs I am knock kneed diagnosed aged 6. I where shoes with insteps which always helped pull my feet straighter but it's obvious to me even with those shoes I am walking more like a penguin. I am wondering if this is menopause related or just age related.

      Hi Sarah
The menopause can certainly affect the bones and change the posture which could then affect the knees and ankles so could be a bit of both!

      Hi Lindsay
You could try apples, bananas, apricots, cherries, dried fruit (in moderation as they are very high in sugars), guava, mango or papaya. However, try one at a time for a week or so to see how you get on; our body is very much an individual and may react more to certain fruits than others.
      Glad to be of help!
