"You're looking for a moment when you feel as close to the soul as possible." That says it all, no matter what you paint, photograph, draw, sculpt, write, or even how you breathe.
Platon is an overrated photographer
@@billbuffett2092 can you elaborate?
@@billbuffett2092 why overrated ??
That’s is perfection!
I have NEVER commented before on any RUclips video i have seen. But NOW is the time. To say that I am deeply touched by this amazing documentary. Thank you so much for this piece of art & inspiration. Thank you Platon to allow us to see aver your shoulder and into your heart.
This documentary takes the fraction of a second and converts it to a lifetime of thought.
Lived it, loved it.
PLATON has to be one of the most unpretentious , intelligent, quiet & yet brilliant portrait specialists of this last 30 years & to boot he’s an outstanding human being. He’s a purist with a passion for telling the story behind the lens.
He is amazing both as a person and as an artist. Few people are that transparent, clear, and direct.
Also, the people that worked on this documentary did a majestic job! I really appreciated the way they balanced out the emotionally dark part of the women's stories in Congo by introducing right after that the warm atmosphere of Platon talking about his family.
This documentary is an art by itself. Huge respect!
Just Incredible
Love from Afghanistan. I love design and photography, and I wish you could come here to capture these flowing moments and people in Afghanistan. Here is an undiscovered land for photographers like you. Souls are so uncovered here and one needs to have only some tools and artistic eyes for detecting them.
Thank you Netflix for this gem
"The hero is the person that inspires us to think again about our own moral compass and our own responsibility as global citizens." ~ Platon
Lovely words.. respect ❤ Platon
kind of oxi moronic, as to think against one's moral compass usually entails abandoning responsibility
He talks, to make others not make a pose and so they become free, uneasy and feel thier fear. This creates a real soul to come out.....
Never have I ever felt so relatable to something I have watched
All my respect to the whole team who made this. thank you very much
I just came home at midnight after a 12 hours shift in a restaurant in central London. As I was preparing myself for a shower, I spend 43 minutes stand up in the bathroom half naked watching this documentary,( and 5 more minutes to write this comment ).
I just discovered Platon and his work. Absolutely worth it.
P.c I'm a photographer.
One of the best documentaries I have seen. This has so much emotion to it. Loved Platon's approach to his art.
This artist (platon) talent to communicate in all sorts of way verbally, emotionally and thru his artistry is wonderful
You will really feel the connection
This is very inspiring, to actually use artistry sharing a simple but huge contribution to society.
Ive always admired Platon's work, now thanks to Netflix I admire Platon as a whole.
''Everything is the same and it allows the message to change'' still wrapping my head around that.
One of the best documentaries I have ever seen. Platon’s Photography is beyond the conventional concepts. Absolutely loved it.
honestly, this was my favoraite episode from abstract and has stayed that way even through season 2. This introduced me to Platons work but also the person, and that is the most important thing to get out of this, are his thoughts and perspectives.
It’s 2:52am in Texas….This is was so moving in the beauty of Planton’s relationship with Empathy….so genuine. The seed that was placed by his Father/Mother….
His sublime sensitivity to his subjects at the most intimate of moments is an inspiration, not just for its art but for its sheer humanity.
It reminds me of the work of the late David Bohm, a Nobel prize-winning quantum physicist who is equally as well known for his philosoophy and deep inquiries into the nature of consciousness, explored through a simple term he called "dialogue." When he explained his concept of dialogue, the simplest summation I've heard, is that to enter into a deep dialogue with another human being you have to show "attention and care." The purpose of dialogue was to get past the baggage that we all bring to conversation and relationships, that comes from our personal history. Bohm wanted to connect with the human being, not that baggage. And his notion of "care" was the essence of how he went about it: he connected with his care for another human being.
Platon's work embodies Bohm's notion of dialogue exquisitely.

Whatever our art, we can all learn something from this documentary. Absolutely fantastic.
Thats my favorite episode so far. This picture of Mom in the lapide sons is pure sadness, i am devastated...
This piece and his story reminded me of what art means to - connection with other humans. Brought a few tears to my eyes for that innocence of stripped ego and bravado. Just connection. Beautiful.
Platon is an orator who takes pictures. His stories always supersede the photograph. His commutation skills are why he has survived in an industry surrounded by better photographers, but who couldn’t compete with his oratorical skills.
Who are the better photographers?
this series is amazing, Platon is amazing. I'm just starting my studies in design and my eyes have been opened to a whole other world.
the photos not only speaks about the eyes but the whole core character of the person who was the theme.
"We're warming up; it just keeps getting better". Can relate.
This is beautiful documentary.
People today are afraid of grain however this "grain" is what give a photograph its dimension, shape and emotion
With this video Platón went up hugely in my opinion. I only knew his wide angle celebrity stuff but his earlier work shows a real talent!
I felt so emotional and spiritually i'm drawn into every single word he said
I felt the same
This is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. OMG what tremendous talent. Platon you truly inspire me. Keep up the great work.
This statement right here: 36:23 "...Because if I get it wrong, I can actually do great harm." This statement just culminated my respect for Planton and has defined his work ethic for me. How many photo-journalists do you think go to Africa to take photage of African people then end up with portraits of Africa & her people that corrupts the view of non-Africans who's only window into the life of the mother- land is the Frame of the camera they pointed at Africa.
Truly meaningful work. You photograph something that is hidden, unphotographable, abstract, inside you. invisible, your soul residing within you at that moment, it points to a past. Empathy is the key.
This guy is so inspiring. Thank you for sharing it with us Netflix!
This guy is intense and so purposeful in what he does. Such an amazing artist.
"The hero is the person that inspires us to think again about our own moral compass and our own responsibility as global citizens." People should think about this.
This documentary is amazing RUclips is the best app ever
Loved season one of this series. Cancelled my Netflix account, but I'm happy to see this series on YT.
If Netflix had produced more content like this, I wouldn't have cancelled my account.
@@joseph-the-seventh There's a second season in Netflix now
An absolutely epic documentary about your life and photography the ups an downs.. and getting all together
I always said i had an eye for photography .watching this makes me want to dive deeper into that world of photos and capturing the human emotions.
Without a doubt this episode had one of the best portfolio intros you can see!!!!.. this episode changed so mych for me as a photographer!!

A fine documentary on a great photographer. Watched this 3 times on Netflix, now here too!!
42:00 "You're looking for a moment when you feel as close to the soul as possible".
Penso sia uno dei più bei documentari sulla fotografia che abbia mai visto. Apprezzabile anche da chi non ha la passione. Folle, umano, toccante. Nitido, sincero, pulito e puro.
I saved this to watch again.

Thank you Netflix for showing us this amazing man, who happens to be a photographer.
wonderful documentary! thanks for sharing this!
The unique emotion in each picture of him is awesome!
I am blown away..the photos gave me goosebumps. Amazing to say the least.
His work is absolutely amazing wow, great episode. The Doctor's picture is beautiful
So much soul on his work. More than just a photograph.

what Netflix is doing for the world right now, is priceless.
Platon is his art. His images have power and humanity shines under his lens. He works incredibly close up and I was intrigued by his lens choices. Was he using a 50mm distagon and a 120mm or a 150mm perhaps with extension tubes? The power of his documentary work was very moving. Really visionary!
I LOVED THIS DOCUMENTARY AS A PHOTOGRAPHER AND HUMAN BEING!!!!
This just completely changed my perspectives on photography
wow..thanks or the inpiration..been a designer for 20 years now and I eel motivated again..thanks much netflix and platon or sharing your priceless gift
i learn so much from this as a bird photographer .
I went to England in '78 at 6 and was also a bloody foreigner, didn't get kicked in but I felt the pain. No pain , no gain.
Extraordinary! You, Platón, as a person and the the work you produce, are truly inspiring. Thank you for sharing your gifts.
Thank You Platon!
I enjoy this documentary immensely. He continues to use traditional film for his photography. I also aspire to own a Hasselblad camera someday. Unfortunately, financial constraints prevent me from doing so in this lifetime. Perhaps in my next life.
“He still shoots with film that really creates a very different set between a photographer and the subject. When you’re photographing digital, you’re constantly looking at the pictures on the screen and what has happened is you’re losing that intimacy between photographer and subject. The magic part of the relationship of getting to the picture that you want to make”
At last a really usefull documentary on how to produce art. Thanks for sharing.
Connection and communication and the power of eyes 💙
Platons best work is the work he shoots out of his studio, in my opinion. His street type photos with the 35mm are more meaningful and personal.
Nice documentary. In the world of review RUclipsrs and what's the latest and greatest cameras, and grain and pixels debates, here is proof that it doesn't matter. MAKE a photo, don't take a photo.
That was amazing. I learned more in 43 minutes than I’ve learned in 15 years
That's pretty much just sad.
Gavin Gynert as are you 👍🏽
@@Lovelifedigital I'm sad?
What could you possibly have learned from this? Not having a go, just interested.

Dazzled by the lights!!! Really love this inspiration!
Very insightful and well-produced. His keep-it-simple analog workflow from film & simplistic lighting, all the way to the Vintage NASA film scanner, are amazing.
