Thank you! Love to hear that. Yeah it sounds like the difficulty options they added will be a great way for those not as familiar with RPGs to experience them
The first RPG that I played. I was 6 years old. I played it with my father. Such beautiful memories. He past away last year. This video brought back beautiful memories of when I played it with my dad. Thank you very much, from a nostalgic 32 year old guy
I loved this format, thank you guys so much for capturing moments of my own childhood as well. The vibes on this channel are like no other, keep it up!
It's hard to communicate this to younger gamers, but Super Mario RPG was insanely ahead of its time. The timed attacks in battles, the quippy writing, the excellent characters. All of it really raised the bar for what RPGs could do and its influence is still felt today.

Just picturing it now, 3 little kids switching off every few seconds during battles. Haha that’s an awesome memory dude. Though I can only imagine how frustrating that password puzzle must have been, even for someone who did speak English it was still too tough for me to figure out as my dad had to solve it for me
This video was beautiful and captured my love for this game immensely. I got this before my 7th birthday and don't even remember how I obtained it. My brothers thought it was boring and made fun of "taking turns" but eventually came around to how much I liked it. I remember beating Smithy while one of my best friends were over and she gave me the biggest hug when it finally happened. Great times. Great memories. I can't count how many times I replayed it and now I'm getting to share this game with my oldest kid....who is 7 years old.
To this day it blows my mind how dope this game was. When I was a kid I thought the "RPG" in the title had something to do with the faux 3D style of the character models. Little did I know I was in for the time of my life, getting to play such a treasure of a game that would stand as a benchmark for an entire generation! Definitely an awesome time to be alive :D
Great stuff. I can feel your emotional connection with this game and that's what really made games memorable. We didn't know at the time how we would think back and remember our time with it, but that's always the case. Thankful the right people got together at the right time to make such things
Picking this title up and I don't even own a Nintendo Switch. I just want to have a copy of this in case my kids want a Switch when they're older and they can experience this. I have the SNES Mini Classic that included the OG version of Mario RPG and that's solid enough for myself.
I am an adult playing this game for the first time. I'm not a big rpg fan due to length, but recently I've been playing amazing titles this year for first time such as Bug Fables and Paper Mario 64. It's very interesting playing the games that came out after that were inspired by the predecessors, and then playing the predecessor itself as I played Bug Fables before Paper Mario. Super Mario RPG is a very fun and wholesome experience that I see why future games Mario or non Mario based were inspired by. I'm very happy you had such an experience with your Father as a child and still do to this day over an awesome past yiu both recall fondly.

Great memories you have with this game. I played it first just last year by remake, so it was rather simple for my adult myself but still fun experience.
Dude, we've got some similar gaming memories and tastes, it's no wonder why I enjoy your takes so much. I also remember Mario 1 & Duck Hunt on NES being my first gaming memory/experience and I also consider Mario RPG to be my favorite game (if I just _had_ to choose). I'm gonna have to pay more attention to the games you love and recommend, cause if you like them, I imagine I'll enjoy them as well.
Always love your videos man, but your "prologue" or whatever your first 10 minutes would be called... man that hit me deep... I feel like you and I shared a similar background/upbringing. Maybe not exactly with the people or cultures we interacted with, but the way our parents raised, or at least the spirit they had raising us and the kinda friends we had and the values (actually good) our country seemed to strive for at the time. Love your stuff man, hope you have a great weekend.
Really appreciate the kind words dude. Sounds like we had a similar childhood in some aspects, and for that I know your childhood must have been awesome as well. Thanks for watching and hope you had a good weekend as well
I didn't expect to bawl at the end of this game, the thing that counts as my introduction to this life as a 3 y/o in '96 (mainly the first battle with Smithy...Shimomura sensei's BGM waking me up, essentially) after all these years, but I did.
When I was a kid, we didn't have a ton of cash - this game was $70 back then, but game rentals were $2, so every weekend my parents would take me to the video store and we'd rent it. Unfortunately, the game cartridge at our local video store had a bad battery, so saves would be erased 90% of the time, meaning if I died, I likely had to start all over. Not only that, but the rental was only for the weekend, so every weekend I'd start a new file and try to get through the game in 2 days. It's not a long game, but when you're 7 years old and don't have the internet or a strategy guide, and have to make it through the game without dying even once, or turning off the SNES, it became quite the task. I loved this game so much, I never let any defeat - whether it be a random goomba, Valentina, Johnny, or finally Smithy himself, stop me. I remember one weekend I made it to Smithy's factory and beat the director, just to have the power flicker - the SNES restarted, and as expected, all saves were erased. That one hit hard, like a sucker punch to the gut, but it taught me that if you are persistent and dedicated enough, no luck, no matter how bad, can stop you. It took way more than the cost of the game in rental fees, but one day, I finally beat it. My love for the game never faded. I play it three times a year on my SNES Mini, and this past Friday at midnight, 27 years later, I played the remake for the first time. I realized only while typing this that, much like I had to do as a child, I entered the mushroom kingdom on a Friday, and emerged victorious on a Sunday, beating the game in a weekend. It's perfection.
I also had no idea what RPG meant as a kid, but we rented it once from Blockbuster and we were sold, We had to have it. We got it about a year before FF7 and I really learned what JRPGs were and why I needed to play them all. The game is pure nostalgia for me too.

How you guys felt about Super Mario RPG is how I felt about the Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past. I never actually owned the game until way later in my teen years, but I was over my aunts house for a good majority of my childhood and she had the game. I was about 4 years old and could not read very well and Her and my cousin would always help me by reading big words I could not read and telling me where to go while I would play the game. That game is one of the reason why I learned how to read because I wanted to progress without asking them for help. Anyways that game still holds very fond memories that I hold dear and I remember them helping me get the Master Sword and it was such a proud moment for me. That game was the moment where I went from liking playing video games to loving them. To this day A Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda game and The Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game franchise. I truly loved them for everything they did for me and the love they gave me by taking me into their household. Not to get morbid, but I remember the last time I saw my cousin he was smiling on a hospital bed just happy to see me and what I had become as he laid there dying in the ICU. RIP to both my aunt and my cousin who not only used video games as a way to teach me how to read, but molded me into the man I am now 26 years later...
So great to hear your history with this game. Makes me wonder how things would have gone for me if I had of won the SNES that was in the contest at my Grocery store, instead my Dad bought me a Genesis and between the games on it and my Computer I gravitated away from the JRPGs into the CRPGs for a long time. Still I've been playing more JRPGs again and while I did try it on the SNES a long time ago I want to give Super Mario ROG another go.
Just for this video, given the more personal and nostalgic nature it felt more fitting to talk in a calmer tone than normal. I’ll go back to my usual style for other videos

Your experience is similar to fine. I had no idea what an RPG was, but I saw a cool new looking Mario game and rented it at Blockbuster. Based on the commercials and screen shots I thought it was just going to be a Mario game where you could walk around in any direction like in Zelda.
Oof. Not gonna lie it’s been so long since I’ve played it I completely forgot about that lol. I was thinking you could only defeat him by dropping the bridge, my bad!
Great video! yeah, Mario RPG was one of the best games on the SNES. Actually, I feel like it's one of the greatest games of all times. So much fun and engaging.
SMRPG is an interesting one for me.. I live in the UK and the original snes game was never released here. I use to collect snes games in the 2010's and smrpg was a game that peaked my interest, so I was dissapointed that i couldn't play it on my snes. I eventually ended up getting it on emulation on my ipad and also ended up accidently by a japanese copy of the game, eventually getting a snes which could play ntsc games so naturally I bought a copy of the game!
What mario rpg does right compared to the other rpg knock offs is it just feels like square back in the 90s always had something to prove and had way more artistic substance in their games. Compared to the other mario (rpgs) game which do feel like full blown kids games. (They are still good tho but aren't as fulfilling as the og rpg)
Totally get that. I will say though this isn’t like our usual videos where we cover a single game, it’s not a super in-depth breakdown or anything and is more just a look back on me discovering it for the first time and a brief overview of why I think the game is so special and memorable. But yes many locations/characters are shown in clips so if you don’t want to be reminded about those before playing, I definitely understand wanting to wait
Never played the OG but it's been on my list for a while. But now I dunno whether to go and play the OG first or just dive into the remake. Any suggestions?
From what I’ve read and heard so far, it seems like the games play pretty similarly besides the obvious graphical overhaul. I’d probably just go with the one you like the look of better
Really like this channel but sometimes I can barely hear you over the lo-fi slop you blast. And an absolute crime to not feature actual music from the game when praising the music

Thank you! Couldn’t agree more. An absolute timeless classic
This vid was a cool change up. I enjoyed it :)
Thank you, glad to hear you liked it!
Respect.
💯
Excellent video
1:37 I love Oster, Bro
SMRPG is an interesting one for me..
I live in the UK and the original snes game was never released here. I use to collect snes games in the 2010's and smrpg was a game that peaked my interest, so I was dissapointed that i couldn't play it on my snes.
I eventually ended up getting it on emulation on my ipad and also ended up accidently by a japanese copy of the game, eventually getting a snes which could play ntsc games so naturally I bought a copy of the game!
I still have my SNES copy of Super Mario RPG lol I picked up the remake but that $60 price tag still hurts. It definitely needs to be $30.
I hear that. Nintendo gonna Nintendo though lol, they know people will pay for it
What mario rpg does right compared to the other rpg knock offs is it just feels like square back in the 90s always had something to prove and had way more artistic substance in their games. Compared to the other mario (rpgs) game which do feel like full blown kids games. (They are still good tho but aren't as fulfilling as the og rpg)
I’ll watch this after I finish the remake. I forgot most of the story and locations and want to experience everything as new as possible
My man, your video make a grown man tear up a little, great job. The nostalgia is strong
Cool
lovely video mate. what is the game featured at 2:53?
Ogre Battle - March of the Black Queen
Thanks! Yeah as the above poster said, Ogre Battle for the SNES
Will you upload your opening as a separate video?
❤❤❤
Never played the OG but it's been on my list for a while. But now I dunno whether to go and play the OG first or just dive into the remake. Any suggestions?
From what I’ve read and heard so far, it seems like the games play pretty similarly besides the obvious graphical overhaul. I’d probably just go with the one you like the look of better
@@GamingBroductions cheers man. I might just dick dive into both 😂 keep up the good job with the videos BTW, love them.
Let's go!
Really like this channel but sometimes I can barely hear you over the lo-fi slop you blast. And an absolute crime to not feature actual music from the game when praising the music
You spelled my name wrong in the Patreon credits, it’s actually “Luc Jacobsen” 😅 From now on, could you credit me as LavaringX?
Oh damn, really sorry about that! Honest typo. No problem though, we’ll switch your name credit for the next video 👌
Not sure about the VO and music mix.
Hey Arnold is better than Daxter
Not an opinion that I hold, but one I can understand and respect. They’re both all time classics
@@GamingBroductions yea
