Collectors were robbed of a great doll for the Twist N' Turn Barbie. The prototype used the Steffie face, had a fringe, and the t-shirt dress was sheer over another dress 😭
These 65th Anniversary Fashionista Dolls doesn't feel homages. They're more like budget dolls that just references Barbie's past for old time sake. The quality in Barbies today is very disappointing. Also wondering if you're planning do a doll history video about Kira (Barbie's first asian friend) since you did Christie. I love Kira's face mold she reminds me one of my aunts.
Mattel aren't making the line look good, when the new fashions are like the 'Wish' version of the originals! I can see the cheapness of the fabric through the screen! xo
@@sew_gal7340 There won't be a skirt after a few plays, right! ...I'd love to think with all the extra Revenue due to the Barbie Movie, Mattel would invest that back into higher quality for Barbie products; But we know they won't xo
I am older than Barbie, so i remember her early days. As a doll she was ok, but the clothes was the star, with real zippers, buttons, snaps, no plastic except for shoes. Metal jewelry rather than plastic. I abhor these new Barbies that are half plastic. Velcro is ok. But only printed details on cheap material is so dissapointing. I can make better clothes out of socks and scraps. Sigh.
HA! I know! I actually got Teresa and Nikki on retail price since they were the short packs…. Barbie and Summer I got on clearance cause they were the larger number!
It’s a koala not a panda. Also this is VERY off topic, but in the Sweet Fruit Color Reveal Barbie series there’s a doll that has the 1987 Christie face sculpt. It’s the one with the big red hair, if you get past the poor quality of the hair the doll is actually really pretty. The facial screening doesn’t have the graininess of some of the Barbie’s these days, I recommend getting her if you’re the type to get your dolls rerooted. When I found this out I was excited, they don’t use it very often anymore so she’s a rare hidden gem.
They do so many t-shirt dresses because of the diverse body types the dolls have. Clothes swapping is the biggest factor in doll play and those dresses fit all of the body types
Controversial opinion maybe, but I don’t think body diversity is worth sacrificing the core appeal of Barbie for. In an ideal world, I wish Barbies would be sold with a clearly marked dress size (calling the four body types something like Medium, Large, Tall and Petite). And then fashion packs could be sold tailored to specific sizes, ideally with every outfit available in all four sizes. I get that Mattel probably wouldn’t do it because of SKU bloat, confused grandmas and fashion packs being a tiny part of doll play nowadays. But it would be wonderful to have proper Barbie fashion back, and I honestly think having explicit sizes be a thing makes a lot of sense from a body diversity point of view.
@CanonessEllinor When the different body types were introduced, Mattel did just this. They had a picture code on the top right corner highlighted for the body the outfit was made for. It's a little disappointing they got away from that.
@@CanonessEllinorwe call them standard, curvy, petite and tall already. So body type descriptors are set. They could do different outfits for each body type, but in same fabrics just like real fashion designers do. Maybe have a couple pieces that would work for all. Sell the pieces that fit every doll together in a $10 fashion pack and the others individually at $5 . And they should do shoe packs. Same color/style shoes, but one pair for each foot type. It feels like they're just trying to grab money out of parents pockets these days. They used to be more thoughtful about how they put things together and how people used their products.
They could have more inclusive fashions by using stretchy fabrics. A lot of the Sparkle Girlz fashions used to fit different Barbie bodies great and they were cute!
They could do other things besides just potato sacks. They could do elastic waists skirts and stretchy tops and they could do 2 different snaps inside a circle skirt. It’s not a good reason at all and they even say that “all Barbie clothes do not fit all Barbies” so they give themself and out already. Who wants to change another doll into the night shirt? No one. They are so ugly the play value is non existent and it makes me sad to see the original next to the repro of these with how many outfit pieces they have. You could spread the different pieces to lots of dolls for fun and mix and match on your dolls as a kid. The play line dolls aren’t really play line if they offer such limited playability. I’ve been collecting vintage dolls for my daughter at this point. She’s Barbie-obsessed but not old enough to know anything about re releases. Grammas would be able to tell the difference in clothing sizes if they just gave them names. Skipper had big old feet and they sold outfits and shoes for her back then….. nonissue. Money is king and they are doing stuff as cheap as possible but people are just buying rainbow high and lol now because of it. Barbie extra may not be the best aesthetic wise for some ppl but at least the outfits and accessories had great play value. These fashionistas are bleak.
I wonder what the original designs for the fashionista outfits were. I can't imagine that they were that simplistic. Eta: I want 1, 2, 3, 5. Love the tribute Teresa doll.
Glad you mentioned Mh dolls I asked my mother for my first monster high doll and and my first articulated ken doll from the movie kinda reminds me of the old ken doll from the 80s/90s talking about his face sculpt
Great video but soooooo disappointed in what the Barbies look like anymore. The Barbies during the 2009-2013 Fashionistas line were HOT!! Absolutely gorgeous!! They had exquisite eye makeup and great clubbing dresses. It’s been all down hill since 2014.
I don’t like this ones. I would have liked maybe a reproduction of the original ones but with the new face molds. It’s kind of embarrassing that for an anniversary they used such low quality materials and designs.
How is Barbie even surviving? The entire line is trash. What happened to high quality, creative sets of dolls with 18+ months of design time behind them? Why was that good enough for so many decades and now it's just "here's another group of generic pixel-face women in shapeless, paper-thin t-shirt dresses"? Mattel is so razor-focused on increasing 90 day ROI that they're missing the bigger picture here: These are laying the legacy of Barbie for current kids. Who is going to have nostalgia for these?
I agree with you. Mattel says they are doing GREAT sales are better than ever. NO, NO, NO. FAKE NEWS. I worked in a popular retail store and my Barbie sales were about 2%. Monster High and Bratz sold alot better than Barbie. Imagine if Hasbro Jem was around? Or even Ideal's Tuesday Taylor? The Mego dolls: Cher, Farrah, Diana, Wonder Woman and Toni Tennille? And who cannot forget the most beautiful doll in the world 1970 Topper Dawn. They should bring Dawns back and give Barbie a run for her money. It's these idiots running Mattel now that are destroying the image of Barbie. Poor Ruth Handler is turning in her grave now.
The 90s Teresa dolls were stunning. They always reminded me of Phoebe Cates from the 90s (Drop Dead Fred, Gremlins, etc). Unfortunately my mum didn't like me having Teresa as my dad's first wife's name is Teresa. 😂🤣😂🤣
I have been collecting the Barbie repro lines since 94. I have all the ones released since but these new dolls in the line namely P.J. and Teresa have seemed so cheap. Love their face sculpt and fashion but the doll itself is cheap. Would have loved them in the silk stone body. I bought P.J. but am on the fence on Teresa. This fashionista new line is beyond bad. Hope next year they amp up the lines especially with the resurgence of Barbie. Loved your video. Take care!
I really don’t understand how they put considerably more effort into Monster High and even the Disney Princess line than Barbie? The faces also are so pixilated in person it’s almost shocking.
I want you to listen to me then pass the word to every Doll Collector you know; if you want to come after EverythingDolls, or MyfroggyStuff, or me, fine! That's the life you chose! I'm talking to Joey from Beauty Inside A Box! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! AS OF RIGHT NOW, THE BARBIE FASHIONISTAS WITH T-SHIRT DRESSES ARE OFF-LIMITS!!! OMG the first one, if you don't tell me what is that dress supposed to be, I would never realize! Bruuuuuh Well, this whole line screams lazy and cheap, I guess some outfits are cute to repurpose on a more articulate doll. Also the love for t-shirt dresses I feel is also to avoid form fitting clothes that will need more manufacturing time, and can't be shared with tother dolls who with different body shapes. Probably both. I love the purple mermaid, I hope I can find her someday. Lastly, could I ask you te react to the nendoroid Barbie please? I'm sure that video would be... interesting, to say the least lmao
Who the hell wants to even buy Barbies nowadays? They’re so damn cheap looking and I hate plastic lol. Bring back the heavy rubber bodies that could be used as weapons 😂
Amen. Dolls produced pre 1999 are the BEST. This is the garbage generation. These idiots running Mattel now should be fired. Poor Ruth Handler. She must be turning in her grave. The dolls produced now are hideous. All we need is a HIV and Covid Barbie dolls. Barbie was suppose to be a FANTASY. She originally had a body like Jayne Mansfield. I was "curvy" when I was a kid. When I got older, I lost the weight and felt much happier. Barbie inspired me. These new dolls are not inspiring anyone. What they are saying is "if you are fat, it's okay" forget about your heatlh problems caused from being overweight . Diabetes is number 1. I'll keep buying my dolls from flea markets and thrift stores.
Great video, Joey! (I think it's the first time I've heard you use an explative.) I think the Anniversary Teresa is a member exclusive. Mattel is slowly recovering some quality, but these playline dolls are definitely hit and miss.
The clothing on the Fashionistas is awful! Most of them are shapeless, and so very basic. A lot of styles are repeated over and over. I wish they would bring back articulation to the Fashionistas, and give them quality clothing like they used to make with Fashion Avenue and Fashion Fever.
I have my Barbies from the 80s and 90s and have recently been giving them to my daughter to play with I wish I could show which ones I have so you could identify their original names and what year they came out!
The new fashionistas are hideous. I don't think they pay homage to dolls of the past. Not much thought went into them. The Teresa doll I absolutely love, the yellow dress is stunning and I'll definitely be getting her cuz my name is Teresa too
I remember the 60th anniversary barbie and it was just a basic cheap looking doll wearing a cheap black and white striped dress.. it felt insulting compared to the incredible 50th anniversary barbie.. same with these, they feel so cheap and Barbie’s legacy and kids nowadays deserves better quality than this
What I like about that limited edition Draculaura is in the back of her hair is a Barrette that has a heart in it that's called a Vampire Heart you can see and that was in the movie called frights Camera Action and I love how they incorporate that.
Twist and turn doll is giving YOLO! For me it is a no no! I love Superstar Barbie. Getting two of her. Giving her a made to move body and Tribute first dolls shoes. Ugh! Flat feet 👣 My complaint as well. Ah! I would have loved a full gown. She is my favorite face mold of the decade. I want the Brooklyn MTM and make a Nubia custom doll. Ah! Teresa and me go way back. She was my first doll. The WNBA doll was also my favorite 🤩 I love the frog 🐸 dog doll! Getting two!
I buy most of my fashionistas to redo but I am SOOOO sick of the flat or almost flat feet, You cannot find good shoes for them if you want to put them in a different outfit. I have got to where I refuse to buy the ones who don't have the heeled positioned feet or I rebody them with doll bodies I find at the thrift store that have heeled feet
The Barbies that pay homage to old dolls are bad except for the one inspired by the first 1959 Barbie, she is so pretty, i will definitely buy her Honestly i'm tired of these basic dolls that want to have different outfits but they can' t because they have to save material, they should discontinue this boring Fashionistas line and replace it with a new line of dolls with made to move bodies, dressed only with a basic swimsuit and sell lots of epic high quality fashion packs separetly, returning to the original 60s marketing strategy I LOVE the new mermaids! They are absolutely gorgeous! the faces are perfect finally we have the Odile sculpt in the playline, the colors are nice and the tails are perfect, finally after 21 years they give us simple tails with only colorful scales, i will buy them all
They could have done a much better job with the Twist & Turn "homage" doll just by putting her in a coral colored swimsuit with white net cover up. People old enough to remember would have recognized her. The logo tshirt dress is just silly. I'm not a fan of the really bright, unnatural lip colors, especially on the black dolls. I think it looks clownish and limits the outfits they can wear. The only time I've seen real women wearing such crazy lip colors is if they're performing somewhere, which works with bright lights, wild costumes, etc. Those same performers in daily life seem to choose more understated colors.
In my opinion they should have just made Barbie reproduction dolls with articulation and new face molds and gave them the outfits they used in the past but with better quality and not fashionsta Barbie quality
I wish that they had kept the unique poses. If they aren't going to move, they could at least have an interesting pose rather than just arms and legs straight at attention. Im aware that as a kid i would have hated that so alas.
I agree, the clothes are just not what they were when i was a kid. I was telling a coworker about the Barbie Fashion Avenue line from the 90s. It was so chic! looked right out of vogue!
I am IN LOVE with the Teresa doll because my favorite color is yellow. Also, my birthday is coming up soon, so I'll have to tell my parents about this. And the original as well because I am a HUGE 80's lover too. 💛 UPDATE: I GOT IT!!! I GOT THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY THERESA DOLL!!! MY MOM BOUGHT IT FOR ME FOR MY BIRTHDAY! IT ARRIVED IN THE MAIL EARLIER TODAY AND WHEN I SAW THE MATTEL LOGO, I KNEW WHAT IT WAS!!! THANK YOU, MAMA! 💛
Wish they would make remakes of the 80s and 90s. I want my collection back my mom made me get rid of when we kept moving. Over 1000 80 and 90 barbies with all the playsets and doll houses. Found out the person i gave it to their kids destroyed all of it.😢
I think maybe another reason why the Fashionistas have those shapeless outfits and T-shirt dresses is to make outfits that will fit as many body types as possible so kids can put the outfits on different dolls. It also like you said makes them cheaper to produce.
The two Dreamtopia mermaids you like use the Odile head sculpt! It’s the first time it’s being used on playline dolls (to my knowledge) 🤩 A lot of people would love if Odile became the new head sculpt for “generic” Barbie.
They need to get rid of Carlyle as a main designer. He is the one creating all these crazy prints and bad designs on the dolls. He dresses the dolls how he dresses himself. Bill, Judy and Robert are better Barbie designers.
He has a really bad fashion sense but some of the most interesting dolls were created by him. I still don't know what's the deal with him and Mattel. 😮
@@claudiagomez-zn8os the dolls are fine, it is the clothes he puts them in! Like literally dresses them how he would dress himself. A REAL designer knows how to be versatile in giving different designs and realistic styles. I understand the dolls are created for kids play, but doesn’t mean they have to be tacky in how they are dressed. They can be colorful or have a print, but this whole mixing prints and over done bright color combinations is too much. Mixing prints was like a trend in 2018. No one is doing that anymore.
I like the first Fashionistas dolls. The quality was impeccable. The dolls too. I don't like any of the latest ones. I don't see where they are channeling the inspiration dolls. I like the reveal Kira face doll. I want her. MiniME is a black Kira I made in the early 2000s. Thx for your channel. I love it. 💙🙏🏽💜

Agreed! The shoe options for flat feet are so lame
The same happens to me! Very hard to find shoes for them. And the flat shoes for regular Barbie doesn't fit the curvy flat feet.
The Barbies that pay homage to old dolls are bad except for the one inspired by the first 1959 Barbie, she is so pretty, i will definitely buy her
Honestly i'm tired of these basic dolls that want to have different outfits but they can' t because they have to save material, they should discontinue this boring Fashionistas line and replace it with a new line of dolls with made to move bodies, dressed only with a basic swimsuit and sell lots of epic high quality fashion packs separetly, returning to the original 60s marketing strategy
I LOVE the new mermaids!
7:04 those same boots (for anyone else that likes them) are on fashionista 185! Okay, back to watching disappointing “homage” dolls
In my opinion they should have just made Barbie reproduction dolls with articulation and new face molds and gave them the outfits they used in the past but with better quality and not fashionsta Barbie quality
I need the new Monster High Draculra doll, for my collection,
Sadly I haven’t seen her at all last year and this this year 2024?
Hi love ur vids , also barbie usted to be the best idols now she is just a doll sadly idk why she had to do a reboot it sucks
Mattel really needs to change Barbie's face mold..😢😢😢
The modern Barbie doll, is terrible nowadays. It's basically a "wish" quality.
Ugh, whats with all the oversized shirts?
i kinda want the new mermaids just for their heads lol, I would give them new bodies and clothes
They could have given 1959 barbie remastered hoop earrings
Dont like mh that much but drculaura vampire heart.... loooove..
I wish that they had kept the unique poses. If they aren't going to move, they could at least have an interesting pose rather than just arms and legs straight at attention.
Im aware that as a kid i would have hated that so alas.
Mum on holiday shoes! Love it!
With you on slogan T-shirt’s!
Hi Joey. What do you think about the Disney store holiday Tiana doll?
Have you seen this year's Holiday Barbie? I think it's an upgrade from last years but still underwhelming.
I agree! I have her and will film a video in November
@@BeautyInsideABox oh yay! I'll be on the look out to watch it in November then!
🤗🧡♥️😍🎈💕❤️🔥😍 I love fashionista Barbie dolls
I agree, the clothes are just not what they were when i was a kid. I was telling a coworker about the Barbie Fashion Avenue line from the 90s. It was so chic! looked right out of vogue!
I am IN LOVE with the Teresa doll because my favorite color is yellow. Also, my birthday is coming up soon, so I'll have to tell my parents about this. And the original as well because I am a HUGE 80's lover too. 💛
UPDATE: I GOT IT!!! I GOT THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY THERESA DOLL!!! MY MOM BOUGHT IT FOR ME FOR MY BIRTHDAY! IT ARRIVED IN THE MAIL EARLIER TODAY AND WHEN I SAW THE MATTEL LOGO, I KNEW WHAT IT WAS!!! THANK YOU, MAMA! 💛
They played it really safe with these fashionista barbie tributes.
Interesting!
Hi Joey I agree there are some nice fashionista
Wish they would make remakes of the 80s and 90s. I want my collection back my mom made me get rid of when we kept moving. Over 1000 80 and 90 barbies with all the playsets and doll houses. Found out the person i gave it to their kids destroyed all of it.😢
I'm sad that you had to go though that 🙁
Waiting on the new mtm dolls.
There will be also collector Anniversary dolls for 65th anniversary.
Got so excited when I seen the new fashionistas are designed after older dolls. But they are hideous 🤢😭🤣
Rap artists wear necklaces like her
"They were old MAIDEN-type of shoes?" 😆
I think maybe another reason why the Fashionistas have those shapeless outfits and T-shirt dresses is to make outfits that will fit as many body types as possible so kids can put the outfits on different dolls. It also like you said makes them cheaper to produce.
2nd doll looks almost like Teresa
I miss bendable knees hi Joey
They all had a downgrade..😭😭
Barbie should be celebrating 65! She's eligible for Medicare!
The cat cutie reveal doll seems to be dressed as a fox.
All of them are horrible ✨
I enjoy watching your awesome beautiful amazing channel about dolls collection story's love love love love love it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The two Dreamtopia mermaids you like use the Odile head sculpt!
I love the 3, 4 doll
I like the first Fashionistas dolls. The quality was impeccable. The dolls too.
I don't like any of the latest ones. I don't see where they are channeling the inspiration dolls.
I like the reveal Kira face doll. I want her. MiniME is a black Kira I made in the early 2000s.
Thx for your channel. I love it. 💙🙏🏽💜
Mattel put Barbie in the back burner and put American Girl and Monster High as top priority. I grieve for old Barbie but I do love MH & AG
But she gets Social Security at 65! That's worth celebrating! LOL!
I love this video thank you Joey for sharing your thoughts about those awesome amazing beautiful barbie doll's I'm buying them all for my collection did you hear that my scene barbie doll's are coming back for 40 at Amazon my scene barbie collection barbie Chesa and Madison barbie doll's
