I was very confused when I started hearing Pachelbel's Canon but it works!
SS Anne is played on Canon D chord progression
I've been playing Pokémon for at least 17 years now and this theme has stuck in my memories for the longest time, when I got ORAS I heard it arranged once more and I took that time to reflect, love this piano cover.
John Stigleman SS Anne is a very simple and memorable theme, I think it has to do with the simple melody and chord progression.
I've always heard the chord progression from Pachalbel's Canon in D in the S.S. Anne theme
This track always got stuck in my head, not as a little kid, but whenever I played through the game again when I was older.
This is my favorite song from any part in Kanto. I could listen to the cover for hours. Thanks for making this and amazing job!

+Womb@t Yes and no. He did slip in an obvious reference, but if you listen to the original, there's already a part that is very similar to it.
Apart from the Pachelbel's Canon, I felt like some parts had a Final Fantasy IV theme motif, at the start of the phrases

I was replaying Pokémon Heart Gold earlier today and when I went onto the S.S. Anne I absolutely adored the music. So I instantly jumped onto RUclips to see if you'd done a cover of it, and sure enough. There it was. Thanks for making my day.

At first I thought making the S,S, Anne theme into 6 minutes was stretching it too, but I love the way that Insane swung that climax at the 4 minute mark.
I also detected another peice mixed in a little earlier... That's a nice trick you got there: playing other melodies to keep the main one from wearing thin, and then going back to the old S.S Anne theme in a climax.
