    I have the 12 yearl old M240, I've been using it for several years. Like you I bought it used and I love it. I primarily use it for Street Photography and in Honky Tonk bars in Nashville. It's so small and stealthy that the bouncers don't stop me at the door. Occassionally I'll be asked to stop shooting inside, but often they don't even notice me because I'm very deliberate when I shoot. You are correct that 3200 is the max, but I try to keep it at 1600 by shooting wide open. I used Topaz AI software for noise reduction and sharpening. It's equivland to a M10 from a noise standpoint with the software help. Keep up the video work.

    The M240/M-P240 rules! My main cameras as a press photographer. Remember: the quality will remain long after the price is forgotten. You can upgrade a 240 by fitting a magnifier to the viewfinder. The 1.4x gives you a more exact focusing. The M-P240 is superb. The M makes you planing your photography better and more relaxing.

      I wish I had the M-P for the bigger buffer, I was looking at a magnifer but haven’t pulled the trigger yet cause I use a 28mm in my trio of lens but I’m starting to think maybe I don’t need a wide angle and just use my 50/90

    Great video, I like your philosophy. I’m a quite ancient art director/photographer recently converted to Leica. I have an M8 that I’ve fallen for big time. It’s set up in Profile 1 for monochrome and that’s where it stays mostly. I also have a Lumix GX8 that’s not seeing a lot of use lately but good to know it’s there for when it’s needed (One Point colour etc). My M8/Voigtländer 21/4 combo just makes me smile…✌️🇦🇺

    Great points bro! I have the original Leica Q and that thing has been an absolute beast but Im craving that range finder, simplistic approach to photography. There is beauty in knowing that shot came from within and feeling connected to your camera. I feel like that makes for better pictures or At least ones that you are more proud of. Now I got to see what my wallet can afford, maybe sell one of my cinema cameras or lenses 😭

    Nice video. I got the 262, it's kinda the same as the one you're reviewing and I'm super happy with it. Being a second camera (I use Canon R and R6 mk2 for work) it does absolutely everything I need in a Leica camera. Small, ultra portable, with the Voigtlander 40 1.4 it makes a perfect pocket setup. For me the ISO is fine also as I almost never use anything above 3200 (I can just shoot f1.4 in low light and its fine).

  • @marc6652

    I sold decades ago a M6 and few years ago a M240, for bad reasons. But I had the opportunity to bye a M262 with only 5000 clics 3 years ago with a 2nde hand summilux 50 and Elmarit 28.
    With a M camera it's the end of arm race. It's the most relaxing and generous camera I've ever had. However, I understand that it couldn't suit everybody or every kind of pictures.

    Great Video! I too shoot with MP240 as my main camera. I use it for weddings, corporate shoots, documentary, street and just about any situation. Worth every penny for a camera that will never need an upgrade if you embrace all that it does and more importantly, what it doesn't do.

      Wow! As your main camera is impressive, I definitely want to get there, and I use it more than any other camera outside of paid work but I love tethering to my iPad on corporate and studio shoots so I’m using fuji for that plus these videos. One day sooner rather than later I’ll be able to afford a M11 which is unofficially supported by capture one tethering. I am shooting my first wedding with it soon and that will be my real challenge, going to use my fuji as the environmental camera and Leica as the portrait body.

    From what I've read it's the strong anti aliasing filter over the Sony sensors. So cameras with a weak or better non aa filter will give you sharper images. Although I really liked using vintage lenses on my a7III and the results some years ago.

  • @SourPlanet
    @SourPlanet Год назад +2

    I use the A7C as my daily. I shoot M42 vintage glass. The adapter is obnoxiously thick, but the results are great. I've read the sensor stack thing as well... but I simply don't see it. I also shoot on a 42mpx A7Rii, and I don't see any issue there either. Maybe particular vintage lenses have issues? Maybe since I'm a street photographer, the fact that I'm always at F8, F11, or F16 has something to do with it.
    A7c plus vintage glass is good... but A7c plus modern manual primes is amazing. Voigtlander 21/3.5 Color Skopar, Voigtlander 40/1.2 Nokton... wooo, man. Best street setup I've ever used for sure. I still feel a tug for Leica. I have for years. But I do feel like I'm getting a lot of the experience with my current kit... with the upside of having stellar modern lenses with impeccable autofocus should I need that critical sharpness and performance level. As it stands, I have a range focus street monster that will keep me happy while I stalk an M11 Monochrome ha.

      Thanks for that info, I was going off what I read, I do know I’ve seen better performance with the Leica SL vs Lumix camera where they would have more fringing and aberration.

I have a xh1 for pro work now

    • @SourPlanet
      @SourPlanet Год назад

      @@bychrisjones Interesting. I'm always curious as to how people arrive at their particular body choices. Leica and Fuji have a kinda similar "soul." Sony seems to lack it. I'm a very process driven shooter. I want to spend zero time at home editing and 100% of my time shooting - since my main gig is in illustration/entertainment. No more screen time, please ha.
      I definitely get into flow state with my Sony bodies. I've managed to push away all their tech and focus on just manual shooting at the street level. But like.. why should I even have to do that? I feel like Fuji and Leica have bodies available that step to that level as their default function.
      Anyway, thanks for sharing and talking shop 🤘

      @@SourPlanet I’m a camera on me 24/7 person so size usually matters to me on at least one of my bodies. I used a xpro2 and xt2 combo for a while. When I got the x100v I loved it but I found all my favorite photos were with the tcl converter. The x pro3 pricing is too high for the features it lost like hdmi out so I couldn’t even make it my main pro body like I used to with the previous version

    I've been thinking about getting my first digital Leica. 24MP is good enough for today. The M240 seems to be a bit bulky and has less features and less advanced sensor than the Leica Q, but the Q has the downside of having only one focal length. Maybe I'll just wait another ten years so I can afford the M10. 🤣

    nice video! I’m watching from Germany.
    I wanted to comment regarding diversity and good stuff on the hand of Leica (note im not a POC). If you look into the current management of Leica camera AG, it’s not looking very good. They are part owned by a pretty questionable private equity company The parent company has also been accused of supplying military optics to places they shouldn’t (they deny this). Maybe the people who work in leica’s marketing department care about the good stuff but I think it’s clear that the company as a whole doesn’t. Which makes it hard for me to promote them.
    That being said, what you said about reassigning blame from the camera could also be applied here. The camera is just a tool; just the same as we can accept all responsibility for shots good and bad, we can also remove ourselves from what that brand stands for if we just like the thing. Its not like there’s ton of choice for digi rangefinders too.

    Plato's, The Allegory of The Cave reminds me of our AI fuelled world view. We are chained to our devices run by AI, altering our perceptions, creating benchmarks digitallly altered we all now aim to pursue. Within this matrix enters the M240, a Sarah Connor camera hoping to bring back a vestige of semblance to an art once known as photography.
