    Not talking bad about your customers is good business sense. You have to feel a little bit bad for some of these people who are tourists and get caught in situations they probably never imagined. Very professional operation.

      I started taping all the calls at my company for insurance and training purposes and I actually let 2 guys go for making fun of customers. Although I did hire the one guy back because he was going through a tough time and had always been a good employee. But even as a owner and the type of person that was raised better than that there's still been times when I've been like you've got to be kidding me. I had a tire change recently where the guy was pissed about how long it took because we were tied up with a accident and I nearly unleashed on him saying why didn't he just change it himself. But thankfully I didn't because as I was about finished he apologized and said that he had tried to do it before calling. But he was dealing with cancer and was frustrated about not being able to get the lug nuts off because of what he was dealing with. After that we got to talking about things and he was also unable to work etc and I actually gave him a part time job. He's since left and back being a lineman but we're still great friends and he appreciated the work I was able to give him during his rough time. It was just doing odd jobs around the shop when he was up to it, but it gave him something to get his mind off of dealing with the cancer treatments...... So you never know what someone else is dealing with and shouldn't judge.

    I applaud you for putting the captions explaining that many of these vehicles are rentals. You reply thus to many of the comments to your videos, but still people condemn the drivers as stupid for going out and getting stuck. You are kind enough not to berate these people who are evidently ignorant of the tourist trade in your area. People are just trying to enjoy the beauty in your area and unfortunately the rental companies do not properly equip their vehicles for the conditions. You help people in need without judgement. Bravo!

    I too got caught up in this storm system but in the mountains in San Diego where I live. 2 days after the storm we attempted to drive home down our 10 miles dirt driveway. 5 miles in we got stuck in a snow drift about 2 feet deep. I was in our tahoe in 4 wheel low, real tire chain (not cables) and run an aggressive tread tire but could not get out. Snow was up to our frame. My husband walked 5 miles to get our backhoe to plow our road and pull me out. Fun adventure, we were prepared with food, water, blankets and snow gear. Our kids wanted to spend the night out there because they were having so much fun.

    • @ClinttheGreat

      Sara Scott I’m guessing that your Tahoe doesn’t have lockers like Matt’s Jeep. Without lockers you truly don’t have four wheel drive on slippery surfaces.

    • @justamom863
      @justamom863 4 года назад +10

      @@ClinttheGreat no I dont have lockers, wish I did. It being slippery was not the issue, my problem was the more than 2 feet of snow I was trying to push through. We could have dug out but we only had 90 minutes of daylight left when we decided to get the backhoe. We also had our children with us and needed to think about their safety as well. My home is down a 10 mile dirt mountainous road so I think I know a little bit about my 4 wheel drive capabilities.

FWD cars get better traction in reverse so you can try backing up the hill before calling for a tow, but be careful it is much easier to lose control in reverse as well so go slow. As the phrase goes, hindsight is 20-20 as we sit here and watch what happened to those stranded people with rentals, after all it appears to be a public road and an established spot for those looking for holiday accommodations and probably booked well in advance at that, along with the rental vehicles in question. Freak unusual weather for that time of the year comes and everything goes sideways. Speaking of rentals, years back I rented a 4x4 Suv in a location that gets LOTS of winter conditions and it was indeed winter then and not one of their rentals had winter tires on them, that just seems to be the way most rental companies roll, put as little into the vehicle as possible.

      i live in the mountains, always swap to the winter seat of wheels and never ever get stuck or lose control.
      plus they even perform better with dry clean tarmac with cold temperatures compared to standard tires and since i change set of wheels at home i didnt spend money with tires shop once tires are mounted onto his wheels.
      here winter tires or snow chains onboard are mandatory during winter so usualy only tourists or semi trailers get stuck.
