Basketball fanatics are really going to love the cabinet real soon. Ive been finally blessed well after the Nuggets season ended yesterday. Good vibes only!
The cost of the NBA & NBPA licenses would already be a bit high; then to grab the NBA Jam license from whomever owns it now (EA, I think) makes it a little untenable. As it is, the game is already $15k, which is a lot to ask for a joystick game (they usually don't earn all that well). While it would have been nice, I don't think that the NBA Jam name would make it earn that much better for the extra $1000/$2000 that license would probably add to the cost. :/
@hasan7786 Steel dragon can correct me if I'm wrong but I think he was saying that because one of the clips only showed room for 4 human players, I think he was saying that there should be the opportunity for six "human" players instead of 4. But that's just my guess
I hope this one gets an international release too, since the NBA is very popular globally. As for a console port, I think 2K will be publishing it, since they have the NBA league and Players Association license for home video games. They did published an NBA Jam-like game (NBA 2K Playgrounds) but that wasn't very popular
I'll never be a big fan of Raw Thrills in general, but shining up old Midway games is definitely something they excel at (go figure, lol). I'll give this a shot when it inevitably shows up at my local D&B.
i have a reason to goto D&B when its released. they used to be awesome, food was decent enough but now its terrible. but I love me some NBA Jam, I hope teknoparrot is able to get a rip and finesse it to work on my home cabinets =P
Damn it does look awesome!.. NBA stars are more iconic than ever right now too.. this will be a certified banger for any barcade that picks it up. 🤞my local one is on top o this! This will bring people out of hiding to check it out… finally!!! Bring legit competition back to the Arcade!
Do you think the NFL will allow football arcade machines to be made again? I heard a rumor that its difficult working with modern sports organizations. They were much more open in the 90s.
Just finished helping put this together a couple days ago at Dave & Buster’s. Cabinet’s a little too basic imo (way too similar to Minecraft Dungeons Arcade), and the decision to not have it be 6-player confuses me, but this game kicks serious ass in every other way, from the controls to Tim’s ramblings. Coworker and I decided to go all four quarters and the game was pretty much neck and neck the whole way through. Never had as much fun playing an arcade game in years. 👌🏻
This will Be compared To the 360/ps3 NBA jam On Fired Edition , Which Right now has been Modded To Includes Updated Roasters and Teams/Team Logos with Retro logos, You Can Play kobes Lakers Vs Lebrons Lakers or Michael jordan in the Bulls Vs Kareem Abdul jabbars Lakers , The Name of the Mod is called Legends On Fire
Yeah, this is definitely something I'll go out of my way to find and play. Then it comes down to mechanics. If it's not as much fun as NBA Jam I'll move on after one or two games. One concern is that there have been so many self-proclaimed spiritual sequels to NBA Jam that I've grown quite wary of imitators. But it looks good in motion, and three buttons is the same number that NBA Jam had. So hopefully the gameplay feels authentic to all that made NBA Jam an arcade legend or has managed to improve on it.
Ed Boon was happy to say that as soon as he saw NBA Superstars, he was reminded of NBA Jam. I'm somewhat looking forward to it. I want arcade racing games, but I also want arcade sports games. I hope Raw Thrills makes a San Francisco Rush Sequel or Spiritual Successor. I'm glad Cruis'n is back, but I wish San Francisco Rush would come back too. Spy Hunter has a spiritual successor, Agent Intercept.
SF Rush is tough because that is owned by Warner Bros., but there are quite a few other new arcade racers that have recently been released, including: Apex Rebels (Sega), Dead Heat Unleashed (Bandai Namco), NFS Heat Takedown (Adrenaline), Smash DX (LAI Games), Fast & Furious Arcade (Raw Thrills), and some others. Sports games, most have become basketball games where you're shooting real hoops, but there was a new baseball video game that came out called Bobblehead Baseball VS. Videos of all these games can be found on the channel here :)
@@arcadeheroes_coinop If it doesn't work out because of WB, it's okay to make a spiritual successor under the San Francisco Dash name. Because Agent Intercept seemed like a Spy Hunter sequel to me. Also, I don't understand why Namco makes New Dead Heat but not New Ridge Racer. They don't even make remakes or remasters. Plus, Ridge Racer doesn't have real cars.
I finished NBA jam on fire edition a couple of yrs ago for the 1st time and really liked it... This seems like a much better game overall, however they missed a good opportunity here to do cross platform... WITH arcades. Imagine tapping into other players while they're at home and you're at the arcade...it would be a step above what snk was doing with the neo-geo back in the day....come to think of it, I think arcades would get a bit of a resurrection if some of their games had a home counterpart to play against online.
_MLB Slugfest_ was Midway’s baseball game, in _Jam_ style, as _NFL Blitz_ was to football (better than NBA, to me, even w/out the B-E-A-S-T-I-E secret team), and _C.A.R.T. Fury_ was their racing game in the series.
NBA Hangtime is one of my favorite games ever, I hope it ll have a 2 on 2 mode and joystick support (unlike the previous game where I couln't even remap the buttons). Please get this game tested before release.
Every arcade game goes through extensive testing before release - if they can't show that it earns well enough, the game gets massively worked on or canceled.
Is Mark Turmell, Sal Divita, Jamie Rivett, Jon Hey, or anyone on the NBA Jam/Hangtime/Showtime involved with NBA Superstars, even if it’s in a consultant role.
Thanks for the video had no idea they were making this, I would love for them to make a console version specially if all six players could be playable at the same time, PlayStation Xbox Switch 2🥳
This is great but confusing why they didn't do 6 players? I get it that most teams don't have 3 superstars but playing 2v2 w/ 1 cpu teammate etc is kinda weird. Can't wait to play it tho!
Yeah, you would actually get penalized the more in the lead you were. That's why "tournament edition" of NBA JAM was released, you could turn off all that really easily when playing human opponents. But that's the way they made the game "fair". lol
I'd rather play this over anything 2k makes. Really hope it comes to consoles. Honestly wish they would lose they're exclusive deal so that maybe we could actually get some decent NBA games that aren't copy and paste microtransaction dumpster fires. Truly miss the good old days when we had options and it wasn't just play 2k or play nothing.
so they release a 3on3 jam type game but there's no functionality to play 3on3. So I don't really understand the point. If it's a matter of space or limited design, why didn't they just replicate what Xmen arcade did back in the day.
The actual _successors_ to Midway’s _NBA Jam_ weren’t called _”NBA Jam,”_ either. In order, they were called _NBA Hangtime, NBA Showtime,_ and _NBA Hoops._ Just an FYI...
@@arcadeheroes_coinop Slam sounds like a bad imitation to me. I actually like NBA Superstars a lot better. Maybe because I sometimes watch pro wrestling but "superstars" is a very energetic, over-the-top word in my mind. WWE uses it regularly, and in 2011, when it came to one of their own supercharged arcade-energy games, they used the name WWE All-Stars to differentiate from that but still communicate that the game was about presenting their top athletes performing beyond reality's limitations.
As an arcade owner, I’d never buy a brand new game at that price. It’s definitely not a “destination game” or a game that people are going to drive an hour+ to go play (as opposed to certain pinball machines, rhythm machines, or certain competitive drivers). People aren’t going out of their way to play modern quarter eaters, they go out of their way to play skill-based games. I’m guessing the place they’d try to justify that price is due to licensing. There’s no way that 4 player cab with no special proprietary controls/mechanisms is worth more than $1k just in parts, cpu, monitor, lighting, etc. this would probably sell well around $7999. New games are far too expensive, and all the large FECs are buying up every game so it doesn’t matter.
That really does depend on the area, as far as whether or not its a destination game, although the chances of every FEC out there grabbing one certainly do reduce that. Costs are easy to assume but there are factors we just don't know about. That said, had this been done in 2019, then it likely would have been around $8k. Costs just haven't come down yet as inflation has just been getting worse, not better. Another factor they have to consider is recouping soft dev costs - in the past, Eugene Jarvis said games cost about $4 million to develop. That's likely much higher now, so they have to recoup it some way. Still, I agree that it'd be great to start seeing games fall below the $10k mark again.
Just too much money for these machines. Realistically this should be 4-6k. That's it. You have to have 14k people to play just to almost break even, during that period you have to fix issues that come up. Just doesn't make sense for operators.
Ninja Turtles was about $7500 when that came out, and it did fine for me. I would definitely take a cab under $10k, although I do understand that present dev & manufacturing costs make it really tough (if not impossible) to hit that $4k-6k mark
Make that $15,000 but, they are designed for businesses in mind, giving them exclusive content that hopefully brings people in to patronize the business
I remember playing NBA jam at the arcade. Dont remember ANYTHING about the cabinet because the game was good. So we shall see but from the looks of it, the style is kinda corny. Less caricatures and more realistic doign the crazy dunks. Not as awesome but again, we shall see.
To be fair, most cabinets in the 90s weren't anything more than a black box with a control panel - these days, cabinets have become something of a spectacle to draw attention.
If they spent millions of dollars to create an arcade-only release, that means there's a big enough of a market for them to sell it to ;) Dave & Busters is already getting it, which ensures a couple of hundred units, many others will likely will too. There are many more arcades out there than you might have heard about.
Nah I went to Dave and busters to play it, mind you it’s 8 chip credits to play it and that’s just for one quarter so to play and entire game it’s 32 chip credits that’s ridiculous bruh they need to release this on pc and consoles 🤨

You can. Google nba jam legends on fire the mod version of nba jam. Best game ever
We DID in the NBA Jam: Legends On Fire mod! I HAVE that game too!
NBA Jam, NFL Blitz and Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey all need a remake or spiritual successor ! also miss the EA Big Sports games

The cost of the NBA & NBPA licenses would already be a bit high; then to grab the NBA Jam license from whomever owns it now (EA, I think) makes it a little untenable. Beautiful cabinet… only problem is when it comes out for home consoles for $30.
It's awesome to see NBA Jam make a epic comeback to the arcades, but I think with it being 3-on-3, it should be 6 players instead of 4.
