    episodes like these are why I love this show. It's like a cartoon there's dopey characters, funny plots, a little bit of pop culture that's not all that serious, and lots of fun.

    NBA Jam is a must have on the Sega Genesis. It's the version that I first played over a decade ago, and still have to this day.

    I grew up playing the Sega Genesis version and had no idea there was no music in the Super NES one, that's just crazy! Great job on this episode guys, love this channel. 💟

      The music in the arcade version of NBA Jam sounded very good, it had quality and its volume was lower than that of the sound effects or the referee's voice, being in the background. It was really well implemented. The music in the Genesis / Mega Drive version sounds downright awful (monotonous and remarkably midi) and plays at an excessively high volume ... which is actually quite annoying. Yes, I know that many will say: "At least there is background music", but honestly, I am grateful that the SNES version does not have that defect. The rest of the music sounds much better in the SNES version, as explained in this video. That is just my opinion. Sorry for my english.

    • @hrvallejoMKT
      @hrvallejoMKT 4 года назад +4

      @@MartinRodriguez-qk4hc This. Amusingly enough, all the time I never had music on the SNES version: I didn't expect it. It was somewhat expected that a basketball match didn't have background music because you're concentrated on your gameplay. So, the ball dribbling and the shoes squeaking on the ground gave it a more immersive feel.
      The interludes between matches where you were shown the current score, had digitized (even if repetitive) videos of players slam dunkin' and statistics. All with appropriate music and colors that actually made it feel like an actual game you'd see on TV. This is why I loved NBA Jam, it gave me that feeling every time and it did too to some co-workers who never played it until I started bringing my SNES to the office for us to have a couple rounds in lunch-time.

    • @Zekium

      Quite the opposite for me : played only the SNES version and didn't knew other platforms had ingame music.

    • @hrvallejoMKT
      @hrvallejoMKT 3 года назад +2

      @Anthony Cook never said it was an issue. Just after the video showing that the Genesis version has music on the match and they started arguing that it made the game better: I realized that I pretty much don't care that the SNES version didn't had it at all.
      Like I said, at the time I didn't think it was strange because I figured it was emulating a real match and the dribbling and squeaking just gave the game a more immenserive feel.

    This is the one I was waiting for! Great work again! I truly enjoyed it as I knew guys would do an excellent job breaking down each version of the game. I agree with the judgement as well. I had the SNES version as a kid and a friend down the block had the Genesis version. Not being too observant at the time, I could never really figure out why I had so much fun playing the Genesis version over the SNES. As you guys said, that music during the gameplay makes a huge difference. Also, what even ticked me off more about the SNES version, is that password system never worked for saving Records/Initials, where the Sega version has a battery save for multiple Records/Initials. This was the clutchest feature for me back in the day, as it was easy to compare all your Records/Initials against your friends. More like having the arcade at home.

    SNES Had WAY Better Sound Tho

  • @D2Kprime
    @D2Kprime 6 лет назад +2

    While I cannot understand why they chose not to have music during the game on the SNES version, not having it certainly does not make the Genesis have "better" sound. When you say "better" that is suggesting QUALITY which the SNES had over the Genesis easily. The fact that the Genesis had _more_ music suggests "QUANTITY." Also, since when is more of a bad thing a good thing? If something sucks having more of it trying to make up for the lack of quality doesn't make it "better." The music on the Genesis in-general was terrible in comparison to the SNES version. Having more music just reinforces that short-coming. The SNES had much better sound FX as well. The swish sounded better of balls going into the net and the dunks sounded much better.
    Also, buttons are easily configured on the SNES version. It has already made more sense for "turbo" buttons to be on the shoulders (or bumpers.) That's less clutter on the face-buttons for me. I'm usually holding turbo most of the time anyway so it's not even something I'm conscious of while playing.
    A lot of selective-citing in this. There are a few things the Genesis version does better, but the things you guys chose don't make sense at all and came across as "trying" to find something that was better.

      Exactly. Graphics are similar but the SNES audio chip and controller design are far superior.

    I'm wondering if the reason why there was no music during the super Nintendo version is because they did everything else up on that game so good that they didn't have any room to actually put the music during the game play.

    Great review for a great game. I remember playing NBA Jam for the first time on an arcade at Skate Palace. My friend had the Sega version and even though he was five years older than me I could beat him with the bulls by dropping 3s with Scottie Pippen. I remember they didnt pay Jordan the rights to use him in the game but the game was so good it didnt matter. I got it for my phone a year ago cuz of the nostalgia

    I have an idea! It would be a little different, but since it's Sonic's 25th anniversary year, why don't you guys compare Sonic Adventure on SEGA Dreamcast to Sonic Adventure DX on Nintendo GameCube?

    I knew that looked too good to be the Genesis on the right. I was use to playing the SNES version. You can definitely tell/see a color difference.

    you forgot to mention that the Genesis version had more sound bytes from the commentator. That was the biggest difference for me. Otherwise good episode, keep them coming.

    Good episode guys, as always. I also checked the Triforcefilms channel. They got some nice stuff in there, the Batman cover especially was pretty cool. Id like you to do Prince of Persia, Jungle book (as someone below suggested), Doom Troopers, Judge Dredd. They're all great and deserve your attention ;)
