episodes like these are why I love this show. It's like a cartoon there's dopey characters, funny plots, a little bit of pop culture that's not all that serious, and lots of fun.
Its all about fun.
That Obama being half white joke was hilarious, and also insightful, lol
I grew up playing the Sega Genesis version and had no idea there was no music in the Super NES one, that's just crazy! Great job on this episode guys, love this channel. 💟
The music in the arcade version of NBA Jam sounded very good, it had quality and its volume was lower than that of the sound effects or the referee's voice, being in the background. It was really well implemented. The music in the Genesis / Mega Drive version sounds downright awful (monotonous and remarkably midi) and plays at an excessively high volume ... which is actually quite annoying. Yes, I know that many will say: "At least there is background music", but honestly, I am grateful that the SNES version does not have that defect. The rest of the music sounds much better in the SNES version, as explained in this video. That is just my opinion. Sorry for my english.
@@MartinRodriguez-qk4hc This. Amusingly enough, all the time I never had music on the SNES version: I didn't expect it. It was somewhat expected that a basketball match didn't have background music because you're concentrated on your gameplay. So, the ball dribbling and the shoes squeaking on the ground gave it a more immersive feel.
The interludes between matches where you were shown the current score, had digitized (even if repetitive) videos of players slam dunkin' and statistics. All with appropriate music and colors that actually made it feel like an actual game you'd see on TV. This is why I loved NBA Jam, it gave me that feeling every time and it did too to some co-workers who never played it until I started bringing my SNES to the office for us to have a couple rounds in lunch-time.
Quite the opposite for me : played only the SNES version and didn't knew other platforms had ingame music.
@Anthony Cook never said it was an issue. Just after the video showing that the Genesis version has music on the match and they started arguing that it made the game better: I realized that I pretty much don't care that the SNES version didn't had it at all.
Like I said, at the time I didn't think it was strange because I figured it was emulating a real match and the dribbling and squeaking just gave the game a more immenserive feel.
@@hrvallejoMKT Different strokes... The music on NBA Jam Sega Genesis sounded very good and the electronic sound really added to the atmosphere of the game.
I'll have to admit the writing was pretty good in this episode. Great work, guys.
Thank You!
Lmao. My favorite part of these videos is whenever you do a cheesy rendition of a rock/metal band. So great.
I enjoy doing that too.
NBA Jam is a must have on the Sega Genesis. It's the version that I first played over a decade ago, and still have to this day.
Epic stuff fellas! Thanks for letting us join you.
and dang, that NBA Jam has some sweet music. someone should do a cover of it...;-)
Thanks again guys! It was truly an honor for you to cover not 1, but 3 of our theme songs.
TriforceFilms! Hi dooves! Big fan! I'd not mind an Acapella cover of Whatcha Gonna Do from NBA Hangtime. Your Acapella is top notch!
I still play the arcade version at my local arcade, loved seeing you make a video on the console version. well done Dan and greg
Haha, that line about Star Wars and Speed 2 had me rolling! 😂 🤣
I prefer genesis music 90 percent of the time. Nintendo has an edge with orchestral stuff usually. But, for me, Genesis just sounds like the 90s. I love the dark electronic sound.
Genesis has more bass too. If you play Genesis and Snes through a stereo system, Genesis sounds way better.
@Spot Turtle Exactly, I like the gritty sound, it's nostalgic, the Genesis has *very* versatile music capabilities & it's soulful.
The acapella is sooo good! We need more stuff like this!
The presentation and delivery of this entire episode was excellent. The jokes were funny, you guys just seemed to flow the whole time and all of it just worked. Seems like you guys really enjoyed yourselves in this one. Great job.
I dont care if there is no music during the game on the SNES version. The fun is hearing the announcer all throughout.
Sega music sounds like some 80s jazz music in some extent. Snes music sounds like a church player playing it on a church Casio keyboard lol
Do SNES vs Genesis versions of Jungle Book.
The Sega version always seemed like it was struggling to play the music. Like it was slower sounding.
Do NBA Jam: Tournament Edition for Sega Genesis & Super Nintendo.
Chris Anas, Really...just...really, they already covered *NBA Jam for Super Nintendo & Sega Genesis*
It's pretty much the same exact game. The Genesis version is still better.
Speed 3 on a plane actually sounds pretty cool. Also, are there still the same differences in the Tournament Edition?
I prefer the Genesis version aswell. (Not only because of the music)
BTW: Do you guys capture with composite cables?
You really need some RGB cables and a SCART to HDMI converter.
The Genesis's RGB signal is fantastic and you get the best picture quality.
You will love the colors on the Genesis, trust me!
I agree. The genesis footage always seems too dark on this channel. My genesis doesn't look as dark and muddy as their footage does.
Yeh they don't do justice to the Genesis with their crappy capture setup.
I'm here to fifth the notion that their capture of Genesis is off. SNES does have a larger color palette; I won't deny that, but their footage of Genesis games is always worse than it should be.
What makes U say it's the hook ups?
Seriously, how do U know? I have neither Gen or snes.
Axel Janes, alright, I'll take your words for it
Snes traded music for shoe squeaks. And there hasn't been shoe squeaks in nba jam ports since. Not even Sega Saturn in TE has the shoe squeaks. Plenty of shoe squeaks in the arcade though. But i suppose music is slightly better than shoe squeaks. Ppl can forget about shoe squeaks. Never forget the shoe squeaks!
I have never seen Nintendo beat Sega in the sports category. And once again Sega wins......
What are we on now........four straight in a row for Sega....?
That Do-Do & Dum-Dum Remix is sick!!!😛🤪😵🕺⛹️♂️🤘
JOE & MAC!
It'll be interesting to compare, because the Genesis followed the arcade as a port, but the SNES version added elements, which in some ways made it superior to some.
Great episode! I agree; I remember renting both and the Genesis version won me over because I could "Jam" out to some tunes while playing.
DontrelleRoosevelt game vs game did a good video on it already
Snes best console .
@@miriamalmeida6687 I got both, but the Genesis a bit later, but afterwards, most of the ports I got were always for Genesis. That machine has twice the CPU, larger resolution, and better framerates, overall. The SNES was good for its originals, as is the same now. Then again, more mature gamers preferred the Genesis, and that still stands.
@@getzapped313 I don't know whom that is; I'll wait until these dudes make it. Oh wait, they already did!
That logo Comparison thing was fucking ridiculous!!! Plus NBA logo count Comparison was so crazy.
The Death and Return of Superman might make for an interesting video as they're nearly identical on both consoles.
Yeah, though the music is different between versions.
+mitu123Copper True
supermarioworldE, it *WOULD* make for a good *Worst Game* comparison...
I walk into the bedroom while starting up this video and my wife say, “Console Wars again?” Lol, I think I may watching a bit too much if she recognizes the theme song!
Rock'n'Roll Racing, pls guys! This gonna be interesting.
Nice episode btw!
Have they done it yet?
@@matttherrien9608 yes, they did)
@@DenLeonRX no, they didn't 🤧
Awesome episode guys. Hope Greg is doing good. I can’t believe I find episodes I missed always a treat going back and watching the channels evolution. Criminality underrated.
I'd like to see Console War between NBA Jam TE..Sega vs Snes!
That awesome intro remix :) it sounds like a upgrade from 16 bit to 32 bit
Def check out Triceforcefilms for more.
ruclips.net/user/Triforcefilms
are you insulting Dan's music skills
did you played any nba jam games
+Maxim Ukhin does it look like i did? BTW we have the same picture
mk2 next are you excited lucky 100
This is the one I was waiting for! Great work again! I truly enjoyed it as I knew guys would do an excellent job breaking down each version of the game. I agree with the judgement as well. I had the SNES version as a kid and a friend down the block had the Genesis version. Not being too observant at the time, I could never really figure out why I had so much fun playing the Genesis version over the SNES. As you guys said, that music during the gameplay makes a huge difference. Also, what even ticked me off more about the SNES version, is that password system never worked for saving Records/Initials, where the Sega version has a battery save for multiple Records/Initials. This was the clutchest feature for me back in the day, as it was easy to compare all your Records/Initials against your friends. More like having the arcade at home.
Props to that accapella theme :D ; Well done once again (especially with the squirrel scenes XD). Now can't wait for MK2 (or MK3, whichever it is)!!
when discussing the graphics, you gotta bring up the artifacting on the genesis. I'm assuming you guys did this with the same cable type on each console. The Snes smooths those jaggies much more adequately.
Rgb would have made a huge difference for Sega in this comparison
Console Wars acapella for the win!
Next episode... things get T O A S T Y.
I agree with the thought that on many games, including this one, that the SNES sound is great, but I dont always agree with the perception that it is SO much greater than the Geni's sound. Honostly, when listening to the Genesis sound during the presentation, it took me back. I really enjoyed it.
Honestly, I like the "raspier" bass and snare driven sound of Genesis
Its a no brainer that for the most part the SNES is just a better console then Genesis.
I agree with this one. I loved NBA Jam much more on my Genesis. BUTTTT, the tournament edition was wayyy better on SNES.
Who needs music for basketball?
* Space Jam would like to know your location *
I would like to see an NBA Jam: T.E. and NBA Hangtime console wars.
That MVS setup in background is pretty sweet...looks like its set up to play other roms as well.
Yup, it can play pretty much anything.
Console Wars You guys could do a Michael Jackson's Moonwalker vid...but he never chose to do anything for snes 😁.
"I hate you and hope you can't poop for days" fucking priceless
is smooth mcgroove doing the theme song?
Dan, Greg and Pat!
Did you know none of the Cheerleaders of NBA Jam were REAL cheerleaders?
They all worked at Playboys Office in Chicago
All the Cheerleaders in every Midway Sports game were actually playboy playmates from Chicago.
Talk about awesome
NONE of them were NOT real cheerleaders????
@@longtallshorty5791 Yep nothing but babes who constantly get nekkid on photos
Edited
i think it would have been so funny is greg whacked the squirrel with the tennis racket while he plays lol
Beyond Oasis vs Secret of Mana?
Secret of Mana wins without a doubt
you can only compare Beyond Oasis to legend of zelda a link to the past
Actually there is a Genesis game called Crusader of Centy that is very similar to Link to the Past.
but byand oasis also was a link to the past clone, a part of a sega project at the time
"a part of a sega project at the time"
Incidentally so was Crusader of Centy
mortal kombat 2 is the next episode!
SNES tops it far above Sega.
+jtomally9681 im more sega fan but yes i agree snes version is far superior
I do love the music on Sega better, because sounds grittier.
+SuperHns yea i like music better too
The genesis wins on the sound for sure, has the original arcade music on MK 1 and 2, the snes sond like new age shit, also the graphics on the MK 1 on the genesis is wide screen ish, the background sprites have less fps but look better on the genesis overall.
And in addition to in-game music, the Genesis port also has a more talkative announcer making this version definitely more lively than the SNES one.
BTW loled @the cheap ass gavel that the (sweet) gal holds @the end! 14:24 ;D
It was a drum stick taped to cardboard. lol
Pro
:]
Seriously I don’t know how you guys don’t have more subscribers. Your videos are great. Great skits. Wish you guys the best.
Honestly, I prefer the Super Nintendo game.
Ditto, interestingly, for two reasons that were put into the Sega column here. I prefer the music-free gameplay, and the SNES controls. But yeah, if you dig the music and the Sega controls, then definitely go for the Genesis port. Oh yeah, and only play this with 4 players. Any fewer is a crime.
Genesis is the best
Butts in my face
I like the accapella remix of the intro 😅
it was a super fun track to cover.
Are you going to upload it?
the acapella remixes were awesome and I can't wait for Speed:on a plane. Great vid as always guys!
Thanks! And def check out Triceforefilms.
ruclips.net/user/Triforcefilms
You guys going to TooManyGames?
Console Wars Very cool, I'll check that out
right now it's not looking good for TMG but if we can fit it in we will. I may be getting a dog this weekend so may be tough to justify leaving a new dog alone with the wife for a day haha. If I can get there ill hit you up on twitter or facebook and we can meet up
Yay! i'm glad these tracks are going over so well in acapella:-)
The "sportsSpoSpoSpoSports" at 1:57 had me cracking up, Lmao!
OOOH I LOVE THAT INTRO
I know these videos are supposed to bring back memories but they only bring back memories of the idiotic playground arguing that we used to do as kids.
This is the best intro song they'd made. I absolutely adore it.
It's super catchy and fits perfectly with the review.
I never had a problem at all with the SNES version having no music during gameplay. And now that I hear the crappy ass Genesis in-game music, I definitely prefer it the way I remember it.
Squirrel attacking Greg's neck was hilarious! Reminds me of the killer bunny from Monty Python.
With NBA jam TE on the PC, during the halftime report you get different video footage based on the team you picked.
Should do one for Ninja Gaiden on NES vs the Master System version just to switch things up a bit.
I like that idea!
In the Genesis version of Tournament Edition, it's mechanically more clunky than SNES. When you go to take a shot, you're moved 1 pixel down, and it takes longer to release the ball. Also? You do NOT recovery from injuries lol. Not even the CPU. It will say 0, but they remain. on SNES a similar bug is present if you use the same team twice after winning, but resetting fixes it
I really enjoyed the "sports" song, so yeah, good job.
Thanks. Those songs are always fun to write.
The sound of the dunks/jam says it all. SNES NBA Jam, you can hear the rim rattle and shake when there's a dunk. On the Genesis, you can barely hear anything when there's a dunk. How can Sega win? Terrible.
Saga Genesis has more voice samples. I know..I owned them both and played them via emulation.
I grew up with the SNES, but I simply cannot defend the decision to not include music during the matches.
I remember bringing that up with my friends at the time, and one suggested we play the music on the stereo instead.
I want to like the SNES version better, but the fact that there is no music during game play makes it feel so flat.
6:03 Speed 3: Air Speed, years later: Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, This predicted it!
3:15
I knew that looked too good to be the Genesis on the right. I was use to playing the SNES version. You can definitely tell/see a color difference.
Damn, I feel like we owe a special episode to XaviorTheLycan.
I still prefer the halftime and player select music on Sega. Something about that dirty funky grit.
1:45 I find that hysterical
When I was this in my subscribed channels feed I was so happy.
Sorry, but I disagree about Best sound going to Genesis just because they did not have music during the game play. Nearly every game I play now, I go to options and turn off the music (it's annoying to me), but this is worth a mention, Tuff E Nuff for SNES had very good music for its game.
9:55 now you turn the table Dan, you're married.
Hahahahah
I'm wondering if the reason why there was no music during the super Nintendo version is because they did everything else up on that game so good that they didn't have any room to actually put the music during the game play.
Toasty! Mega Turrican vs Super Turrican 2 please soon lads! Keep up the good work!
You should have had him try curling, I bet that would have been his true calling. HURRY, HURRY HARD.
I have an idea! It would be a little different, but since it's Sonic's 25th anniversary year, why don't you guys compare Sonic Adventure on SEGA Dreamcast to Sonic Adventure DX on Nintendo GameCube?
Idk, both soundtracks are pretty dope imo
I think the SNES version sounds and looks better but the Gen/Mega Drive version is overall better.
The humor just gets better and better. Loved the basketball shots with Greg.
How the heck a Squirrel get in into the court? xD Fun video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
How about Cool Spot for an episode?
At the Too Many Games convention Dan accidentally bought 2 copies for sega XD
+MrGadgetgreg D'oh!!!!
LOL @ the end squirrel attack HAHAHAHAHA!
Still today, I'm still wondering about the SNES' title music. It's a more 'vamped' synth version, that I'd swear heard on an Arcade machine. But any MAME ROM does not have any music whatsoever.
snes to genesis is like trying to compete in a spelling and math contest with special ed kids. snes is clearly better
I played "Bart's Nightmare" on my super NES as a kid... You should do a console wars of that
Do a console wars video on Lemmings for the Genesis and SNES :D
It's one of the first Sega Genesis games I bought.
you missed P funk as a character in Sega too. So good.
I get it the music in gameplay in Sega Genesis feels like the experience of basketball games.
There was NBA jam tourment edition with the new Cleveland cavaliers and the new sacmento kings logo
I can see how not having music while playing the game kid of sucks but the fact that that one song does not exists in the super nintendo version can't change the fact that the super nintendo music sounds way better than the genesis one, for that music quality alone, music goes to super nintendo
I'll wait for a revisit of this one with NBA Jam T.E.
I got to say this now just because there's no music in the Super Nintendo version I still find it very entertaining and I play this game almost for 3 hours last night I'm not going to lie I'm addicted to this game SNES version in my book is better
I pretty much have the SNES port of this game. Personally I do prefer the "no music" during gameplay, mostly because it gives the game a sense of realism.
Edit: Since I've viewed this episode, I've watched some gameplay footage from the "NBA Jam" original Arcade game, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, and Game Gear. Apparently they all had music during the in-game gameplay. I tried looking up why the SNES version has no in-game music, but couldn't find anything. This may go down as one of gamings greatest mysteries.
Another thing I've noticed, the Genesis game is actually the closest to the original arcade game, in terms of music and voice-overs. Very fascinating.
I found a dog at 2:25. Looks cute, name? And it belongs to who :O? Who is the dog lover?
That's my dog Oliver. He likes Dan and is always trying to hang with us. He's been in a few other episodes. He was in power rangers the movie episode, brought us beers.
turbo on shoulder buttons is not really a con. if that were the case, then the NBA games on later gen systems wouldn't have adopted that on the controller.
Sega's Team Select song is PHENOMENAL. Great keyboard work
I was about to be excited that you used the Great Seal of Kansas - until I realized it was the mediocre seal of Arkansas
Slam Dunk SNES (SFC) vs Genesis (MD)... I know this basketball series isn't popular in the US but it's quite popular in Asia, it's based off a popular manga and anime
