  • Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed a new immigration law as an attempt to crackdown on employers that are hiring undocumented workers. The law would require undocumented workers to verify their legal status through an online database and would ban local governments from issuing IDs to the undocumented. NBC News' Guad Venegas has more.

What you don't understand is, Americans don't want those low paying jobs. Thwir are plenty of jobs available in this country. Mist don't pay enough to make it worth it.
Farmers don't make a lot of money. Having 3 employees for the price of 1, helps keep food prices down.
If these far.wes now have to go an buy expensive heavy equipment to farm because they don't hs e workers, what you think is gonna happen to food prices?
You do know where you good comes from? Right? It doesn't come from the grocery store. It comes out the ground..
It os cheaper to hire a working for $3 and have 100 people pick vegetation, or the farmer will gave to borrow money and pay $100 of thousands for heavy tractors to do it.
      See you don't understand this.
And Republicans break laws all the time. Why this one gotta be pushed so hard?
They don't push hard about illegal use of campaign donations. Look what Trump got away with so far.

“Undocumented” workers are a necessary part of the equation that contributes to Florida’s Billion dollar economy. They buy goods and services, as well as provide labor in jobs that few Americans want because they are difficult. If he wanted to be a genius, develope a plan that provides a path to citizenship. I will never begrudge anyone who wants to provide a better life for their family. Stockholm syndrome is real. I wish many of my latino brothers and sisters realize… it doesn’t matter how blond your hair is or how white your skin looks. You can be fluent in English with no accent…The Republican party will never consider or accept you as “one of them. “You will always be “other”. @daveb6125 I was just HR. All I know is first we'd get a letter from the feds to fire a confirmed unauthorized laborer then the state sends some lacky to confirm (we usually send him the termination paperwork) but if we get caught with too many laborers on the roster the state fines is $5k per violation and the state can decide to revoke a business license depending on the severity of the violation.

You were using eVerify which is not a law to use; however I9s and along with ID verification is required. It’s not usually legally advisable to use eVerify for a variety of reasons including being held liable if anything goes wrong with supplying personal identifiable information to a third party, even if it is the federal government. Another issue is opening the door to wrongful termination since eVerify can only be done post hire. The one place we used it at, in the 2 years I worked there we must have had a dozen times where a new hire was flagged illegal erroneously. Again though it’s all a legal thing, most lawyers for each company I’ve worked for (all less than 100 people) have all advised against it but there are lawyers that develop correct procedures to enable eVerify use and keep their client safe from any legal trouble.

How many of y'all remember Lawton, Childs governor of Florida back in the 90s I believe. Who took the basic journeyman license regulation out of Florida I was a new electrician at the time and it's severely cut down on our earnings because now you didn't have to have a license to be an electrician anymore or a plumber. The workforce was saturated with unlicensed workers who didn't have to have the training. And it was clear that this was done to keep up with the booming economy and filled it with nonqualified workers. So think about when you come into this country, come in legally and learn how to do a trade. What I have found these workers send their money back home to other countries to support their families in other countries. I've worked with many people from Brazil that are not legal and are still doing this to this day in 2023. So it supports other economies other than ours.

It supports the economies of both. If they chose to send money back to their families (some have no family and therefore find it easier to leave) they must still pay to survive. Also if an employer takes taxes from their wages automatically, immigrants aren’t getting any refunds for overpayment.

I thought that the fact that they get a MUCH lower salary was helping US economy, or at least, "helping" the company for what they work for. Also, somehow, they get tax deductions from their salary checks, AND they don't send 100% of their salaries to their countries, they spend part of that money here in the US for living costs 🤷🏻‍♀️ So it's a win- win game, but in long term, even though they pay tax during their work life, they won't have any retirement savings because they won't be granted for that benefit since they're illegals, so when they're old, and tired, they're going to go back to their countries and those countries are going to have to deal with those retirees that during their productive age never work for those economies.

Most of the 250,000 Venezuelans who had received asylum and work permits in Argentina (as well as Uruguay, Paraguay, and other South and Central American countries) were informed about the U.S. sanctuary States and far better benefits, including hotel accommodations, etc. have been pouring into the U.S. by AIR, land, and sea! Based on International Refugee Laws, "the first country of arrival" asylum application (Argentina, for example) will allow the U.S. to deport them back there. Oh, yeah, we know at least 9 out of 10 of the immigrants entering the U.S. and applying for asylum are certainly ineligible. Meanwhile, my relatives' U.S. bus tour to New York had to be canceled because of a lack of hotel accommodations for tourists. NYC has suffered astronomically from so many angles, including housing shortages, hospital beds, long-delayed medical care, poor senior citizens' benefits being cut or markedly diminished to transfer the funds to the newly arrived illegal immigrants, as well as the continuing tens of billions of dollars in cash and weaponry heading for the never-ending Ukraine War.

Well duh!! Citizens don’t have to worry about that law, only immigrants do. By the way, I disagree about your statement when laws “don’t create fear”. Laws do create fear, the reason why you claim that laws doesn’t create fear is because you never experienced a law that negatively affected you. Let’s say for example that you are an immigrant that came to the United States for a better life. However, you’ve been informed and aware that the United States has passed a exclusion law that would certainly affect your life. You would be scared because it is your future livelihoods, you dreamed of going to here because you think no other place is a great as the United States of America. Now your life has been unexpectedly turned around for the worse.

E-verify doesn’t work. Eight years ago the company I worked for went to e-verify. In order to complete the requirements for having a verified workforce, all employees had to be e-verified. Imagine my surprise when I was disqualified by the e-verify program. I am a natural, born U.S. citizen. Thirty percent of the workforce who were citizens were disqualified under e-verify. We all had to file appeals and eventually lawsuits to be allowed to get our jobs back. The union tried to help but wasn’t really successful. For nearly a year I had to work a succession of low wage jobs before I got my job back. I lost my job, my retirement savings and nearly my home because of e-verify. The government even admits that the program has a thirty percent error rate while still trumpeting the programs success. I call it a nightmare. I call it a traumatic experience. I wouldn’t call it a success.

Right now, I’m waiting for my wife’s interview at the US embassy for almost 3 years now. It’s hard for me and my wife who underwent through legal procedures and seeing these undocumented immigrants coming here without any sweat and not paying any immigration costs. This is a double edged sword, however, I will accept if they’re paying their fair share of taxes as their contribution to the country. Instead of cracking down these illegal immigrants my suggestion now is for the USCIS/Homeland Security and the Biden Administration to create a law enforcing all illegal immigrants to put their names on what we called “Immigration Parole Law for undocumented” meaning this law should allow all illegal and undocumented immigrants to be on the list and Social Security will be issued to these immigrants and they will pay taxes and graded accordingly if they are behaving as a good citizen (no criminal record, paying taxes and years of service and living here in the US) then this will parole them to become eligible for permanent residency.

That's not true a lot of people are in line for those jobs, sad to say they just don't want to pay them properly and that's the real problem. They want cheap labor so that they will have a bigger take away and to me that's greed. A deadly sin

This law will not braking up families. This is sad to make people feel guilty for enforcing the laws. The people that came here illegally chose to do so. They are responsible for their actions. Had they came here legally this would not affect them. The fix is to allow victimless crime prisoners with work experience to work these jobs in exchange for early release. There are homeless people with work experience that can fill these positions. Problem solved.

You don't want the undocumented? Then document them. How hard could that be? Unless you really don't want to. Welcome to California, we grow oranges also, and my yard needs a good gardener. Hardest working people on earth, I love them.

This is called labor dumping! The end result is significantly reduce wages for Americans and legal residents. The cherry on top is you get to pay for your decreasing wages by taxition WITH representation and inflation (a none legislated Tax) Happy 4th of July!

@@aliceharris1998 No. People come on guest or tourist visas and stay, or work, or stay and work.
That was the scandal with ex-sheriff of Pina county and his companion. The younger dude did have a visa but without the right to work. When his pall, the sheriff, sent some department's IT work his way and paid for it, the younger dude became "undocumented (for work)"
