The crackdown on out-of state licenses is part of a larger immigration legislation signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and that went into effect on July 1. NBC 6's Kris Anderson breaks it down.

No license AND no insurance!!!!!! Screw the citizen then, that driving runs into or is run into by an unlicensed, uninsured person. The offending states now allow the undocumented who GET licensed to at least get automobile insurance. This system works and citizen are protected more. Some people are against that apparently.

So if you vacation in Florida and your vehicle has plates from one of these 5 states, or maybe any out of state plates, Florida cops will use it as an excuse to pull you over to check if you have the outlawed drivers licenses, and as an excuse to write tickets and harass drivers

😂😂😂 Correction: The "full faith & credit" clause of the constitution states that each state must recognize ALL legal documents legally executed in any other state. That's how Vegas became the divorce capital back in the 50s .
We dont follow Federal laws any more. The federal government has decided which laws it will enforce and which it will not, in spite of the requests by states (immigration laws). By failing to uphold ITS Constitutional duty it has set the example.
Get back to me when states like California recognize concealed and open carry permits from other states.
The full faith and credit clause only applies to recognizing documents from other states, not what the legal implications are of using it are. The clause is not a get out of following state law card. If the full faith and credit clause could be used to avoid state driving laws the same goes for gun ownership. I could get proof of my right to open carry in Texas and there would be nothing New York or California could do to stop me from carrying in their state.
The purpose of the full faith and credit clause was to prevent states from not recognize other states document that ARE in appliance with state law.
Correction to YOUR correction: The law does not apply to actual driver's licenses from those states...those are still good. What the DO apply to are the "special permit" licenses issued by those states that are specifically endorsed as being valid ONLY for driving within the issuing state. So, according to the laws of the issuing states, these licenses are not intended to be valid in Florida, or any of the 48 other states. They are intended to be valid only in the issuing state, and the main intent of these licenses is to issue them to illegal immigrants, so that they do not have to go through regular process at the state's DMV....and thus slip under the radar of immigration.
But once again, the "unbiased" media misrepresents what that DeSantis is doing here....and don't think it makes me feel good defending the guy.

😮😮My 94 yr old Mom was born in Fort Worth Texas. She has not gone thru the real id for Federal purposes because the effort of tracking down all her records would be a big hassle for her. I am glad Texas will not hassle her when she drives to her local church or gets groceries.

I enjoyed visiting Walt Disney World in Florida in 2010. Since so much has changed due to having an adversarial governor, I have to assume the people of Florida agree with DeSantis and it has tainted WWD for me forever. I go on vacation to get away from such stress.

I'm suprised it doesn't include CA licenses. Not all CA licenses qualify federally. You have to get what they call a 'real ID' to travel w/ a CA license.
Anyone in California can get a Driver's License, no citizenship required.
You need "Real ID" to FLY. You can still travel by car, bus or train.

Straight from the California DMV website: "REAL ID compliant DLs are noncommercial or commercial licenses that also allow you to board domestic flights, enter military bases, and enter most secure federal facilities." Also: "AB 60 driver’s licenses are for individuals who are unable to provide proof of legal presence in the United States (U.S.), but who meet California DMV requirements and are able to provide proof of identity and California residency." Applicants for an AB 60 license are warned up front that the license can't be used as ID to enter federal facilities, can't be used as ID at TSA checkpoints and could put them at risk if shown to law enforcement in other states. AB 60 licenses look different from regular licenses and have different wording on them. (All of this can be looked up online.)
Cali gave out 400,000 Motor Driver's licenses to allow illegals to drive AND VOTE in their local elections a few years ago.
I am too lazy to find out which states. I think I will just not go to Florida. Most people will probably do the same

Which is irrelevant to the state of Florida. The state of Florida has zero authority over that, per the US Constitution.

There is no way this is constitutionally valid. Drivers' licenses are a license to drive, not a form of citizenship test. As such, the full faith and credit clause requires Florida to accept out-of-state licenses.
This law will be struck down almost immediately.
Licenses issued to illegal immigrants, or Asylum Seekers, are only valid in the State that issued them.
Florida is a Nazi state, if you see a Florida license plate or ID act accordingly.
Don't underestimate this Supreme Court. They ruled in favor of a hypothetical case. Lol.

A bench warrant for an out of state driver having an ID that the state doesn't recognize by the drivers home state would not only trigger a "states rights" case it would more than likely end up in constitutional courts ending up in SCOTUS hands. Why would the issuing state that gave the license to the driver extradite the driver to another state because the offending state does not recognize the home states issued drivers license? The drivers home state would not be obligated to enforce such an infraction if the constitution does not allow states to cherry pick which laws they want to pass or enforce when it comes to interstate commerce and travel. Interstate commerce and travel shall not be impeded by tax, and tolls. I see it getting to SCOTUS, and they may even choose not to take the case if one was ever pushed.

my new zealand driver licence isn't valid in florida and georgia, i have to present an international driver licence to rent a car , and because i have a passport from canada, they will ask even more questions .....
None of those specially marked driver's licenses are the same as regular driver's licenses issued by those states. They are not considered valid Real ID even within those states. They are only valid for driving within that issuing state anyway! They cannot be used for entering certain govt buildings, flying, or various other purposes, even within the issuing state. FL just makes sure everybody knows those restricted driving permits are not valid outside of the issuing state!

That is wrong. There are no driving licenses valid for one state only. The driving privilege is independent from a government ID, but most driving licenses have both.
It is perfectly fine for example here in NY to get a driving license without REAL ID. For someone being temporarily here for 12 month - why bother getting one?
The treaty that acceptes drivers licenses from other states is very old, and Florida clearly violates it. You do not need an ID for federal purposes to have driving privilege.

It is called a graduated DL in MI now.
No you may not use it in Ohio, Indiana or Wisconsin. Not sure about other states.
Also you did not need a state issued DL in a military vehicle. The US government license was all that was needed.

It seems like you didn’t watch the video and are basing your comment off being mislead by the title.
The news is very misleading, I suggest read the law first. Here's a recap; it only applies to Limited Purpose Drivers License. It is only legal in the state that issued it, you are not supposed to used it outside of the state that issued it. It is illegal to use as travel ID (Not legal for TSA), drive outside the state that issued it, it's only temporary, and it's not accepted for official federal purpose. The named states are the only ones issuing this IDs
Florida doesn't give out licenses to people in the country illegally, so there would be no issue with Florida licenses to begin with.

I had to switch to an Enhanced driver's licence 6 years ago. Had to show my original birth certificate and other id.

Not necessarily, many legal people do not have a real ID as they do not want to upgrade yet to a real ID since their licenses have not expired.

If you want to talk about drivers licenses, then say so. A state issued ID is something completely different.
The dmv issues those types of id's to legal drivers too. Not everyone has upgraded to the realID drivers license as their current license hasn't expired or they plan on using their passport for federal identification purposes. This law impacts legal citizens who drive into florida.

This is not true. There are some states that will tow you immediately if they catch you. Your registration may be suspended by some if they notice that your courage has lapsed. As with this law, you must do something to be pulled over before you are cited for driving without insurance. What is the source of the 1 in four statistic?

This is not true in the named states. These States are smart enough to also license people to DRIVE only, SO THAT THEY CAN GET INSURANCE. Many of the unlicensed and undocumented drive anyway. If you accidently run into them.....they might just run away. You, whether you are the cause of the accident or NOT, only get uninsured driver's coverage. It seems the solution you all want in Florida, is state Socialism. Florida will dissolve unneeded automobile insurance companies...and maybe health insurance companies so the can discriminate against 'those people'. Why would any country issue a drivers license if it wasn't valid for Identification purposes? That is one of the Primary purposes of a driver license besides the validation you passed a drivers license test.They want to know who you are.

There are countries that issue a driver's license that is not an ID, and they issue a separate document as an ID. Most of these countries are European ones.

Many places around the world do it. Driving a vehicle is separate from your ID especially in today's world.
People used to use their SSN for ID purposes. Not anymore. Same with driver's license which is why the USA federal government created the Real ID program which requires a higher level of personal identification.
Many people don't want to get a Real ID and would rather get a credit card size copy of your passport to use for flying within the USA. I didn't even know that existed, but it does.
@@mrxman581 Your driving record is attached to your criminal record so it must include proof of your true Identity, crimes like speeding, DUI, Vehicular manslaughter all require that your driver's license to be your I.D. You cannot for obvious reasons detach your driver license from your true identity. That is important that when applying for State issued DL that you provide proof, Birth certificate etc.

Of course Florida is over stepping it’s authority…..again!! If the other states claim they are valid, nothing Florida can do about. The only thing they can do is if the same driver is pulled over for repeated offenses and it’s clear they are actually living in Florida, then they can ticket them as a resident with an invalid license.

Yeah, it's not. There's a reason those ID's are marked the way they are. They don't work outside the issuing state, and THEY'RE NOT REAL ID's. It's those states pandering to illegals who is breaking the law.

Not only do you need to work on ID issues but how about those who live in your own state that get rejected during job interviews! I had a ID, issued by the DMV, and every job interview I went to said they wouldn’t take it because I couldn’t drive due to an eye condition I have. That’s unfair and should be illegal.

That was a very confusing explanation. All DeSantis is asking for is for the drivers in those states to have a " real ID " . A real ID is just shows you have provided additional proof of your residency and your ID is as good as a passport. They will be required for all US citizens soon.

lol I have an old friend who lives in Florida, the only reason I would go would be to see her. And I wouldn't drive while there. I actually don't how to drive, since I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and you don't need it out here (although of course it is good to have, most people do learn).

Florida has to recognize any driver license from another state for the purpose of verifying that someone can be trusted to drive safely.

Some states, like Connecticut, gave “Drive Only” licenses to illegal immigrants.
Not in these Liberal States, and North Carolina got left out of that list. The licenses and Id issued to illegal immigrants at NC DMVs is only valid in NC. Florida is the only State that is aware of the issues caused by unvetted illegal immigrants, who aren't tested on the "Rules of the Road". I saw this happen at the Shalotte, NC DMV.
It HAD always been like that. I want to know where it says (Florida or other state) that you need Federal ID to drive a car. Most states just say you need a valid driver's license, including one from another country. If one state is good, then why not another? The next question is why bother with a change like this? What purpose does it serve and why bother splitting hairs? It's not like that are any major differences in road rules between states. Edit: in 99% of places where they ask for "photo ID" you can use a license. It will get you a beer, prove who you are for voting, jury duty, entering a courthouse, boarding a plane, and many more, which are at least on a state level, if not federal level. Someone go ahead and tell me that voting or clearing through TSA is not on the edge of federally approved ID.

Let me explain it to ya......from @ibuguru...None of those specially marked driver's licenses are the same as regular driver's licenses issued by those states. They are not considered valid Real ID even within those states. They are only valid for driving within that issuing state anyway! They cannot be used for entering certain govt buildings, flying, or various other purposes, even within the issuing state. FL just makes sure everybody knows those restricted driving permits are not valid outside of the issuing state! Hope this helps!!

So, if anything, Florida needs to honor these licenses for driving but NOT honor them if they try to open a credit account for example. It makes Florida and the governor look stupid and pathetic.
Nah FFAC doesn't apply here. FFAC says that a state has to accept your permit allows you to drive in the state it is issued in. It doesn't have to agree it allows you to drive in their state. FFAC only applies to court documents not other state documents. This means your marriage/divorce/birth/death certificates are required to be accepted in all states because they are court documents. A drivers license is not a court document so it does not apply. The only reason your drivers license is accepted in other states is because all states made agreements that they would be accepted. This was not always the case and still isn't the case with learners permits and you'll note that anytime you get a learners permit in any state you are specifically told you are not allowed to cross state lines because while some might accept your learners permit not all states will and it can get you in serious trouble.

I lived in Oregon for 3 years, between Texas and Idaho. When I moved to Idaho from Oregon, I found out my Oregon drivers license was not a valid ID nor could I use it to Identify myself with the Idaho Dept of Licensing. I actually had to use Canadian Birth Certificate and my Naturalization Papers to get an Idaho Drivers License, a Star Card.

That's pretty standard when you apply for a license in a new state. Each state wants to verify everything directly, not just 'I trust that other state did it right.'

The state of Idaho put you through a bunch of needless bs just to change your driver's license from one state to another. Your driver's license from Oregon should have been sufficient to get an Idaho license. Today's laws have only made it more difficult for people to get things done. There isn't any trust in society any more. That's a real shame and a form disrespect for honest, law abiding citizens.
