What homeless people in South Florida say about law banning sleeping in public spaces

- A new Florida law is set to ban homeless people from sleeping in public spaces. Some say it will keep the streets safe, others say it will simply hide the problem from public view. So in tonight’s 7Investigates, Karen Hensel asked those who will be affected by the changes.
Don't be so quick to judge.
The middle class is slowly being desecrated. This could be YOU next. 😮
@iveyhealth2266...great comment, absolutely. When someone is living from paycheck to paycheck, they are closer to homelessness than they want to admit or realize.

There's no simple solution for homelessness
Its an easy problem to solve but most homeless people are Lazy, Nasty and are Drug Addicts. If the states want to get them work , start a program to train them to be security guards since you dont need a brain for that or even need to work hard. But, here is the catch, even if the state decided to do that, I bet 90 percent of them would refuse because their biggest challenge is getting fed and there are places that feed them daily and sleeping and they dont care about where they sleep.
If they werent so nasty and disgusting I bet these things wouldnt have been a problem but when these disgusting people do their drugs and leave their filth everywhere and sleep and crap in the public view instead of trying to at least be somewhat clean, this is bound to happen.
Now with thats said, At least in jail they will get fed, have a working toilet, a roof , AC all day, TV, and not have to work. Compared to their situation, that would be a major upgrade but here is the problem , they will have less access to drugs and alcohol.
I bet if jails started serving alcohol, and drugs they wouldnt mind jail
Yes there is, they rather build buildings to accommodate people migrating from other states. 100 acres of land is less than 500k, they can turn it into a factory for organic foods and put them to work. Less than 10 million dollars can employ the homeless and create a business with them to make a livable wage

Most of them want to work. The solution is build showers and restrooms facilities with cameras. In every city.

We have people who are addicted to drugs all over western Washington and the west coast.. You don't think this is dehumanizing to have to see this everyday. Where in the world do you live at ? This is about drug addiction in most cases and is getting worse everyday. They steal, leave messes everywhere for others to see and then move and do the same thing another place. Get real because the cities on the west coast spend hundred of millions of dollars to make the problem worse and worse. So the bleeding hearts are what have caused this over the last 20 years to get worse.

Smh why tf there's no services to help the elderly???
Well, if you were to Google it, you'd see there's all kinds of help for them.
@@AFloridaSon Well if you do go in person, you will be told they are under resourced and underfunded and you will be turned away...Not enough buildings and waiting list is years backed up...Homeless shelters are now charging $15.00 a night...Most of these people don't even have the $5.35 for a "Biggie Bag" at Wendy's...."Big Pharma" closed down all mental asylums to save on having to pay employees, why pay employees when you can make the citizens do the job for free, just keep the patients on Taxpayer funded medicaid paid drugs and the income flow is guaranteed and secured...It's corruption it's finest or lowest IMO...Take that blindfold off and call Elon Musk. for a ride back to earth...
There is, but some do drugs and don't want to follow the rules.
And let's not forget it's a lot of young people leaving NY/California/ and Chicago...with no plan in sight. Chasing the fast life...and get culture shock . With the reality of how life operates down here. So , the end up filling up the homeless shelters down here!.. . And it's not fair to locals, who were already on the waiting list needing help.
@AFloridaSon That’s a fallacy. Call any one of those services for help and see how far you get.
So sad seeing our army veterans on the sidewalks while they fought for our country and gave their lives. America has failed these people but hey thank god we send billions overseas instead of improving the countries homelessness issues. If we can help fight two wars then we can help the American people.
I agree with you regarding the allocation of our funds. Though, bare in mind, "most" don't take the help. With addiction and MI as the main culprit.
And the cycle will continue….PS, a Miami Resident who joined the Marine Corps and went through homelessness as a vet….in Miami💯💯🤷🏿♂️We will survive, God bless the homeless of Miami, Florida, and America as a WHOLE🙏🏿

It’s sad to even have a conversation about homeless people. Breaks my heart. Things are so expensive here in the south I can’t imagine having to start from ground zero.
One of the biggest issues with 'camping' out in public is the amount of mess/trash created by a lot of the homeless people that group together. It wouldn't be as bad if they picked up after themselves.
Homeless advocates big mad at you for even bringing up how un-sanitary homeless camps are. We might as well just go back to the bubonic plague era if we're just gonna let our streets be filled with trash.
yeah, these people who live on the sidewalks and in parks are selfish. they expect other people to feel sorry for them and give them things and clean after them. Totally !
Tell yo local law enforcement to take them to jail they beg for sleeps Matt’s n free food but yo law enforcement officers don’t wanna arrest because can’t pay they restitution fees.Yall bitch ass ain’t from dwn here don’t speak on FL business
Just think of the millions of dollars Ron DeSantis used to fly immigrants from Texas to Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. that could have gone towards helping the homeless problem in his state. Also DeSantis and state administrators rejected at least $11 billion in federal funds over the past two years. Millions of low-income Floridians could have benefited from that money. He also forfeited about $5 billion in food benefits for families that struggle to make ends meet. The $11 billion is money Floridians send to Washington when they pat their income taxes. And if Florida does not claim this money it often goes to other states. By not accepting the money he hurts Floridians.
Saving millions by getting rid of illegals is not a negative
EVERYONE CHOOSES TO BE HOMELESS
* It is a choice
* Anyone that wants to work can get a job easily
* Find a roommate or two
* Both work at $15 an hour for a total household income of $30 an hour
* Two incomes in one household "without kids" can easily afford to rent somewhere
Low Income Floridians wouldn't be able to find housing if the influx of migrants from out west ended up in Florida. Migrants band together and rent/buy up all of the low income housing which takes away options from legal residents. This is not only unfair to legal residents, but it also further increases the rate of homelessness.
Think of the amount of money the government is using to take care of the mass invasion of illegals and funding wars. Wouldn't it be wise to blame Biden for the invasion and not Desantis, who didn't ask for the extra burden. Flying them out of Florida is small change compared to supporting them long term. Good for desantis common sense actions.
Educate yourself about the Biden democrats open borders and 10 million illegals

The city of Miami past and present mayors have all done the same thing- completely ignore the homeless situation with dozens if not hundreds of people sleeping on the street and what I call the war zone just outside of wynwood
It's almost like there's an unwritten rule as long as they stay in Little area and don't venture into the areas that are frequented by tourists specifically wynwood and Bayside, then the cops leave them alone.
I have been watching this for years it's almost as if the cops and other City officials in the city of Miami are completely blind to dozens and dozens of homeless people sleeping on the streets in the city of Miami every single night.
This cocky little Mayor Suarez, has never once addressed the issue it's like it doesn't even exist to him!
Very curious to see once the state law goes into effect how they will handle it.
They will move somewhere the question is where??
They simply won't enforce it.
Suarez will just demand that Miami law enforcement disregard the law. It's the new Democrat playbook. If you don't like a law, disregard it.

@@xagonfly one of many basic truths is the difference between reading and comprehension. No where in my short paragraph did I say people who “Own Stuff” have “More Rights” than people who don’t. First off everyone “Owns Things”. Secondly, my first words were, THEY DO NEED HELP. You can get mad at me, but your anger is misdirected. Get mad at the government officials, the mayors, aldermen, city councils, governors, all the public officials that have control of tax dollars which could be used to help those in need. They not only have the money, but they all have the power to end homelessness. But you go ahead and get mad at me, politicians love when citizens argue with each other, it’s a distraction from the fact they are fleecing taxpayers and enriching themselves. By the way, God Bless, enjoy your day.

I side with Florida on this. If you allow this to continue, word will spread that this is a great place for homeless people to stay. Pretty soon the cities would be in ruins and the hard-working taxpayers would be pushed out. It is sad that so many people are living in such a way. But the truth is most of these people do not have jobs and do not pay taxes. They really have no right to claim the public space.

74 and homeless, poor lady :(
The old let's sue the counties. Florida really is in trouble
They should be forced into shelters….that’s why we have shelters in the first place…but the homeless never want to use the shelters because they don’t want to follow any rules. What California is doing is wrong…no one should follow what California has done and just allow anyone to sleep and camp wherever they want. And if many people who are homeless are that way because they have an actual mental illness…then they should be put in a place that deals with people with mental illnesses…they shouldn’t just allow them to live on the streets. People also seem to forget that in Florida…we have fire ants….fire ants will swarm you..they bite and can kill even if you aren’t allergic to them….they can even invade a tent…that is a danger to people.
@@xagonfly you cannot say someone does not have compassion for not enabling drug and alcohol and nicotine use, enabling people to live on the sidewalk. Compassion is not giving people money and food. Compassion is forcing them to stop doing drugs and alcohol and smoking nicotine. These people need tough love not free drugs.
How would the government punish a homeless person? Arrest them? Put them in jail? Jail would give them a dry bed to sleep in, air conditioning, 3 meals a day, a bathroom, a shower, and access to medical care. This would be an improvement in living conditions for most of the homeless. Do they actually have enough jails for all these people?
And we foot the expensive bill
Damn that's fucked up👎🏾 i will never have worry about that
Govt wants you on the streets…. That more plain as day in the present moment
Govt pushing people around for no reason. Germany take care of their homeless.
very good Florida
How is DeSantis bad for this ? It says he is putting the burden on counties to set aside areas for the homeless that must have bathrooms, and mental health care. That is great. Of course, the areas may be drug and alcohol free, which is a good thing. So how is this bad ? Why should homeless people be allowed to sleep on public sidewalks ?
There's no additional funding for the counties and if the counties fail to provide these services they can be sued. Eventually you'll just start seeing the counties fail and then DeSantis can say he tried everything without actually doing anything.
@@ludovician the counties should not fail, and if they do then they should elect more competent leaders. if counties and states cannot figure out how to stop the rich from getting richer while the middle class fails, then it should be visible and everyone should have to see. alcohol and tobacco companies are thriving so are bars and restaurants, stores, rehabs, hospitals and those who earn from them. At the expense of the addicts and alcoholics, who ARE the homeless. There is no reason a person should be homeless unless they are somehow impaired. If DeSantis did not do this then what would happen? The counties should not get federal funding. The counties can figure out how to get these people employed and help. Stop giving them free food and free health care. Make them earn the money, and if they are doing drugs and nicotine and alcohol where are they getting the money ? Debilitation from drugs and alcohol and NICOTINE are just the main problem that debilitates these people into being victims of parasites (the establishments and the churches). All these establishments saying they are aiding the homeless are just making money and getting tax writeoffs.
@@vectortiedye Bless your heart for the nuanced take. Although I don't disagree with Florida no longer receiving federal funding. I do like how Florida shares the tax burden of its home insurance system i.e. Citizens. Very progressive/ socialist. It's time Florida picked itself up by its bootstraps.
Like young man said we all have hard times but that dont mean u should b homeless and if u choose to b homeless...yes i do not want to see ur stuff all ova the bus stop.. the park...park bench...on beach...i pay taxes for my city to be clean and pretty. If u wanna be on street be neat and dont take up seats for us who payin taxes and in our way whwn walkin and leaving trash everywhere...but u can be homeless if u want
Having a progressive approach and proper management of the new law is crucial. No one likes unknown change and everyone has opinions and concerns be it negative or positive. It’s important we help the homeless not punish them but leaving them slowly erode the environment of our city’s isn’t the answer.
My God their already homeless where do you expect them to go or do? God help us
I've noticed a lot of middle to senior aged women (a lot of them) trying to stay closer to the suburbs in my area. They try to get privacy with bushes/trees. It is safer in the burbs, but people are mean to them.
Somebody needs to teach Shevrin Jones that a large majority of homeless people get used to the lifestyle and would rather not have to return back to living under the government's rules. You can't force people to take help when they don't want it. Jones just hates the bill because it's likely a Republican bill.

Find a roommate = not that easy and can go sour quick since some people are better off alone
Even if 2 roommates have $15 an hour jobs so called easy to find full time, a 2 bedroom apartment goes for about $2,500 a month and that’s still unaffordable because groceries for 2 people is at least $250 per week.
