A very good reaction video. And Love that you can't stop laughing after the song. And I did almost the same , Geoff Castellucci sure know what he's doing! Keep it safe and have a continued good day sir. 👍
yep, all Geoff on all the voices 🙂
What an unique spin on the song and on the video! Geoff managed to take a song, which has been covered so many times (and which consists of 5 identical verses), and still make it his own, make it unique, fresh, new and exciting!
He has an amazing ability for capturing the emotion of a song and conveying it through his voice, the instrumentation and the visuals. The choices he made are stunning: the long sections of solo singing, the spare use of harmonies but perfectly placed, the unexpected twist on the melody. The instrumentation (the piano, the rumbles, the strings, the drums) underlines the mood, adds so much to the emotions and lets you immerse yourself in another world.
The dynamic camera movement is delightful, the lighting is perfect. That proves his excellent taste for aesthetics.
The video is nothing but him, a piano and lights and yet it is so breathtakingly beautiful and mesmerizing and powerful - it shows his extraordinary talents! Nothing more is needed. No fancy special effects, nothing to hide behind. True skill lies in simplicity.
And his voice….his VOICE…captures all the pain and yet hope - it has all the shades!
It touched me so much.
I bow to Geoff
Thanks for your reaction
Geoff knows how to layer and I love how he sings and then it goes quiet. His voice is soft as velvet and he has such control and range. Such a talent.
I was charmed by your reaction video. Thanks for being genuine and enjoying the music 🙂
Grew up with Simon & Garfunkel, and my granddaughter introduced me to Disturbeds' cover of this song, which blew me away. Now we have Mr. Castellucci's cover again a whole new song. The static reminds me of when the power used to go off on my favorite radio/TV station. The Sound of Silence.
You should try Pentatonix ' version. It sounds like a hope-filled message.
Awesome reaction to an absolutely beautiful song and video.
You're very welcome.
And thank you for the shout out. It made me feel really good to be acknowledged like that.
And thank you for reacting to this one. I knew you'd like as much as I do. It definitely brings back memories of Simon and Garfunkel. I was a little girl when they sang this but I have 3 older siblings that listened to all of the songs from this era.
Yes Simon and Garfunkel did it originally, having written it, and there have been many covers since, including a very dramatic one by Disturbed, but Geoff has made it all his own, as he always does. He sings alone on High and Dry also, without even the voices of his other selves. Someone said that the original was a warning, Disturbed's version was the anger that the warning was not heeded, and Geoff portrays the sadness that it was not heeded. It's very moving and gives me chills. Nice reaction. Don't worry, you get used to Geoff multiplying himself and it doesn't seem strange at all. :)
If you haven't already, listen to Geoff sing Shenandoah. It's gorgeous.

Pretty sure Jeff, Daryl and their brothers were out there singing backup somewhere...they just kept to the shadows for this one.
This is the version of this song that makes me feel the saddest, the most tired and worn out. 😔
I feel as if the protagonist of the song was kind of downhearted, or worn out. There's something in the QUALITY of Geoff's singing and even acting that leaves me with that impression. 🤔
Every time that his voice, or even the OTHER voices making harmonies, build up, they always fade out (sometimes abruptly) right before closes the verse with that "...of silence". And it doesn't seem to me that THAT "silence" is a "triumphant" silence, as it could be in Transcendence or in Meditation... It seems to me a "discouraged" silence, so to say. I don't know, I may be totally wrong. But I get this feeling, and this version of this song makes feel as if I was to cry. 🙂
When listening to the original, or to Disturbed's version, I can feel some sort of hope, or of anger, or... Here I end up feeling disheartening, or something that is a close relative of disheartening.
Again, I may well be 100% wrong. I somehow HOPE to be wrong on this. 🙂
Thank you for the reaction, as usual. I love your ways.
See you next time!
Great reaction! Also, your poor headphones have seen better days!
