Fil, it’s wonderful to see you paying homage to this great group. July 2023, FAK just played Chicago this week. Super good show. This is one of their signature songs. Thank you for recognizing their skill and harmony. Emmylou Harris is my fav and I’ve watched this vid countless times, it ties my world of music up nicely. Emmylou weeps with joy. Touching.
I’ve been waiting for this one ! Thanks so much for this Fil! Just FYI to anyone watching, the sister with the blonde hair is a pretty mean bass player and plays most of the time in their live performances, so nice to see her belt it out in this video. So much passion. Their albums are great as well
Thanks for this video, Fil. I am a big fan of First Aid Kit. This is a great song. It is so well crafted. This is one of my favorite bridges. So amazing. I'm glad you mentioned their blending of vocal registers. They do this on all their songs. Its purposeful and effective. Cheers.
Thank you, fil for illuminating me on the talents and intricacies of playing this song and performing it for Emmylou Harris who it is written for, in a way. It’s a wonderful tribute to her and her love with Gram Parsons, who unfortunately passed away in an untimely way. I love country music. It has such integrity, always reaching for real emotions and experiences, vulnerability, and sweetness. The musicianship is another thing about country music. These people are musicians. They learn an instrument as well as learning how to sing. You see the musicianship here. They’re not doing the fake alterations you see in pop music. Lastly, I just want to mention that when Graham died so suddenly, Linda Ronstadt invited Emmylou to move in with her and they became fast friends ever since and have sung together beautifully many times
I love it when you talk about technique! Breaking out your own guitar to show what is going on is AWESOME! I’ve been playing for quite a while now, but in many respects I will always consider myself a “newb” . There’s so much to learn out there! Thanks, Fil, for continuously giving me “food for thought”.🤙

Thank you Fil. When i first heard this duet i was so touched by their gift for songwriting. Heartfelt songs are so rare. They are capable through lots of practice and maybe genetics of such exquisite harmonies too! Really appreciate you covering the skills. As a fingerpicker i love hearing it carried forward.
Thanks Fil. Already captivated by First Aid Kit, however, had mostly attributed their greatness to familial harmonies similar to Everleys, Louvins, Wilson brothers, etc. Your analysis of Clara’s fingerpicking opens up a whole new aspect of their brilliance. Thank you.

🧡 thank’s for this interesting explanation about Emmylou & FAK meeting this amazing night. EL as emotional as I was first time I heard it. FAK is from Sweden...so I’m I. Love them🧡
Such a lovely tribute. When you were playing that G B pattern, it sounded beautiful. When I tried to learn guitar, a neighbour taught me a pattern, and .i loved the sound. I found it an almost zen thing, and played it all the time. But my teacher insisted I use a pick.😊
Great info - knew their vocals where fantastic but wasn´t aware of the technical skills of the guitarplaying. Thx mate! Love and respect from Sweden :)
Fil.......based on your enthusiasm for educating the public at large and the support you give artists, you could easily head the Ministry of Arts & Culture of any country in the world if you ever wanted to do anything else.
Those two beautiful songbirds made Emmylou cry, and I'm sure that's not easy to do. Thanks Fil. How about a review of Emmylou covering Chuck Berry's "C'est La Vie/You Never Can Tell" ? (The later version where she's rockin' it up)
So glad someone else picked up on Klara's skills. I'm an advanced player and matching her precision, rock-steady technique and clarity is challenging. She obvi worked long and hard to get there. Respect 💪
Thanks Fil. This was nice to see again. Clara sounds like the singer from the opening song to The Long Dark: Wintermute. Just watched the Patti Smith cover of Dancing Barefoot from 2011. Very good performance.
Hi Fil sorry I have fallen behind on your tapes. Just thought I would catch up. That was some of the best Country music I have heard in a long while. Great video as always ! Keep up the great work. You are a great teacher
EMMYLOU HAS LAUNCHED ALOT OF CAREERS ,THE HOT BAND , AND HER ROSES IN THE SNOW , PUT RICKY SKAGGS OUT THERE, JAMES BURTON ,AND ALL THE PEOPLE FROM TONY RICE BAND , PLUS JON RANDLE, RODNEY CROWEL, GREAT ONE AGAIN FIL , THANKS
Absolutely , Emmylou is legendary in multiple genres ! But Ricky Skaggs was already well know in Bluegrass from a young age , having played with Bill Monroe at 8yo . At one of my most memorable concerts in 1979 , Ricky Skaggs performed twice ; as a member of Buck White & the Downhome folks , and then with Emmylou .
Glad you have done this analogy of First Aid Kit. I suggested them some years back. I like to renew my request to review the 1957 CBS broadcast of Billie Holiday performing Fine and Mellow with a line up of the jazz great. If you do this one then select the one with a short introduction by Mike Wallace. Thanks. :)
First time I saw First Aid Kit was when Letterman had them on one of his last shows singing Simon and Garfunkel's "Looking for America" I believe it's called. Beautiful.
I love this video! FAK are sooooooo good. This song about Johnny Cash & June Carter, Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris is as good a tribute as I’ve heard 10 / 10
I’m a 60’s and 70’s kind of guy and I struggle with music today as it very rarely has any emotional effect on me but these two girls are right up there in every way and only proves to me there are a lot of good musicians and songwriters out there today but unfortunately very few really great ones.
There are only ever a few really great ones every generation. FAK's generation is no different. Neither will be the one that comes after them. Or the one after that. If anyone could do it it wouldn't be special, would it?
Brilliant analysis! Appreciate your insights for one of my lefaivorite songs of all time 💜 saw them in Seattle in 2014 or so at the Neptune, wonderful experience!
Make me an angel who flies from Montgomery. John Prine wrote but their duet made it Emmy Lou's. Her old man was Gram Parsons. You could write a book on him from getting tossed out of Keith and Anita's house for being too stoned. (How stoned do you have to be to get kicked out of Keith Richards' place?) To saving country music by influencing groups like the Stones to do Sweet Virginia for example. She is one of the prime forces behind Hardly, Stickley, Bluegrass held annually in Golden Gate Park with three days and seven stages and free admission. This draws 120,000 every year. I, like many, consider her a saint.
My daughter's boyfriend plays the guitar and sings and we had a private concert at Christmas dinner. He played Roadhouse Blues and was trying to sing like Jim. I was able to tell him to use chest voice, thanks to Fil's videos. He was too shy to practice in front of us, but he really sounds close.

You have infuenced me and got me so excited about music so much that I'm thinking of buying a keyboard & learn what I can. I am not musically inclined ( lol ) but at least I will have tried and enjoy and have fun with it. Thank you for that! love ya👏😍😘💕🤗
You made me go on a hunt for more of these ladies after this analysis, Fil. Wow, they are really good. You're right about genetics - their voices blend so well it's intoxicating. Great analysis - especially love when you pull out the guitar!
I love Emmy Lou! I think as she has aged she gets more and more beautiful! Every woman yearns for beautiful gray hair like her. Such a distinct voice!!
I agree wholeheartedly. I've always thought she was beautiful both in voice and appearance. Her hair is lovely too as you mentioned
So glad she's being told how much her music still means to people around the world.
This is really extraordinary, thank you for this and a live lesson too, love your channel Fil......ROCK
Always look forward to the Fil show. University of Wings.....Rocked
I love that you give us so much facts about the artists. That’s why I subscribe. And also because you’re someone that knows not only, what you’re talking about - but also are a musician self.
Only just seen this analysis Fil - only 4 years late! FAK are my favourite band so it's great to see your analysis. I already think they're amazing so I love to see you spreading the word. They are exceptionally talented - and no autotune here! Thanks Fil!
Fun fact 2 in Sweden there are so many people singing. We are a singing people :)
Wonderfully done with this analyses! And nice to hear about the background story of First Aid Kit. Thanks!
🧡 thank’s for this interesting explanation about Emmylou & FAK meeting this amazing night.
EL as emotional as I was first time I heard it. FAK is from Sweden...so I’m I.
Love them🧡
A great song and you can see Emmylou approves in the end. Thanks for sharing Fil and a great analysis as always.
Such a lovely tribute. When you were playing that G B pattern, it sounded beautiful. When I tried to learn guitar, a neighbour taught me a pattern, and .i loved the sound. I found it an almost zen thing, and played it all the time. But my teacher insisted I use a pick.😊
Good analysis _and_ demo, Fil. Just bought that track on iTunes.
Respect 💪
They made Emmylou cry! Graham Parsons was a huge influence for her, and the love of her life.
They made Patti Smith cry, and rocked Paul Simon.
Very true. That's Gram (short for Ingram).
Thanks Fil. This was nice to see again. Clara sounds like the singer from the opening song to The Long Dark: Wintermute. Just watched the Patti Smith cover of Dancing Barefoot from 2011. Very good performance.
Love you Emmylou. Rest in peace Gram, June, and Jonny.
Watched your two reactions videos and it nice to see you do have The spark✨
Hi Fil sorry I have fallen behind on your tapes. Just thought I would catch up. That was some of the best Country music I have heard in a long while. Great video as always ! Keep up the great work. You are a great teacher
Just want to say Fil, your analysis here was most enjoyable, much like the song itself. ROCK ON!
Fact!
Don't forget the Nash Ramblers.
Thanks. :)
SWEET HARMONY ! Great Tribute to Emmylou Harris . Thank you,Fil.
from Eve G.
First time I saw First Aid Kit was when Letterman had them on one of his last shows singing Simon and Garfunkel's "Looking for America" I believe it's called. Beautiful.
bbbart77 It’s named ‘ America’.
Neil diamond did one called’Coming to America’.😊
They also sang America in front of Paul Simon at the Polar Awards, he gave them a standing ovation
Never disappointing... thank you Fil. 👍
Dropping my suggestion for Shakey Graves Audiotree version of “Roll the bones”! Love your work Fil!
I love this video! FAK are sooooooo good.
This song about
Johnny Cash & June Carter,
Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris
is as good a tribute as I’ve heard
10 / 10
I love the fingerpicking technique.. Simple ... Thanks teach...
I LOVE First Aid Kit!!!
Great job as always fil , long overdue this one , nice one mate
I’m a 60’s and 70’s kind of guy and I struggle with music today as it very rarely has any emotional effect on me but these two girls are right up there in every way and only proves to me there are a lot of good musicians and songwriters out there today but unfortunately very few really great ones.
There are only ever a few really great ones every generation. FAK's generation is no different. Neither will be the one that comes after them. Or the one after that. If anyone could do it it wouldn't be special, would it?
Emmy Lou and MK's album 'Real Live road Running' is one of my favourites. Their finale performance in LA after their tour ends is unbelievable.
Love that album
Mark Knofler is quite a smooth player all stripped down. Have you heard the song Pockets he does with a young Canadian singer. It’s very good.
@@waynethera2712Ruth moody. Good song
Brilliant analysis! Appreciate your insights for one of my lefaivorite songs of all time 💜 saw them in Seattle in 2014 or so at the Neptune, wonderful experience!
If I could only add a heart to yours ❤️~>💜 😄
Excellent reaction. Really enjoyed it.
I never get tired of First Aid Kit.
Damn this made me cry😭 💖 The moon must be in some weird sign.
Wwaattssuuppp! Hey from Montreal. Nice tribute. 🎼🎼
P.s. I've been experimenting on chest/ head voice in singing i understand it now that you've been explaining it...
Great job ... Brotherrrrrr
