The XM is a symbol of how BMW has completely lost its way. The affordable, lightweight, manual and RWD sedans/coupés that made their name have long since died and been gradually replaced by these tasteless behemoths that are not engaging to drive but merely to show off. Frankly, BMW and the other German marques will be wiped out by the Chinese brands very soon, as there is less and less to differentiate them.
I strongly disagree. Name one good chinese car. Just one. Also, BMW still makes one good car, for every shit/controversial car. X1, X3, X5, 3-Series, 4-Series and 5-Series are all top of their class. M2, M3, M4 and Z4 are still pretty nice, just too heavy. In addition to that their success tells us that they are right. They sell twice as many cars as 8 or 10 years ago. But yes, the XM was/is absolutely hideous. But then, so are most other large and powerful SUV's. And I also don't understand how anyone would be angry at BMW for building this lardy piece of crap. You are not obligated to buy one... Simply buy something else, if you have the money.
The XM was a dumb move by BMW and M division, they had the opportunity to make something really special and blew it. I don't like the kidney grills on the 4 series but absolutely don't mind the version on the M4 and M3.
As an owner, that loves mine, still enjoy these reviews. It’s a far better vehicle than my X5 before and great daily. Not for everyone, but better than an endless array of high end cars I’ve had the last few years😂
@@bmwblog Same reviewers who spent a few hours in the XM “don’t like it” yet endlessly post Lexus LC500 reviews loving it. And? I had one too. LC500 is clunky, rough, slow, awkward, and doesn’t sell remotely well either. One RUclips review never equals true reality. Agreed, they could of done something more special. The X5M is more appealing so why buy an XM. They made an M2 CSL prototype but didn't put it into production which is sad.
Want to make an SUV the image of M? Fine... Make it the size of an X3M, slap a V12 in it, make it a mild hybrid so it can drive in any strict emissions city and keep it under 2 tones. There use that recipe.
As a Halo car, I don’t think the XM (even if it was different & praised) would have flown off the shelves anyway. It would be nice to see a second generation that’s heavily revised but it is what it is. Maybe they can create something appealing to celebrities with Alpina since it looks like they tried to with this.
XM is amazing imo ... all blacked out and its interior is insane.. idk how he says the use of the M badge is stupid when the red label runs a 11.2 quarter mile.

@ 2023’s apparently were stiffest, and there “might” have been some 2024 revisions. After the early reviews I wrote the XM off. Then drove one this summer. Nothing at all like what anyone on RUclips, etc described. It rides exactly like an X5M, but with more weight, and more planted. The extra bit of noise on textured roads? Well that’s what 23” summer Pirellis do. It’s simply a tire thing, vs the size. 23’s are nuts and what cause more rumble, but even on AZ roads, mine is so smooth and steady. But DIRECT. Next tire go round? Just looking for quieter, slightly taller tires. Otherwise 22’s & better tires “instantly transform the ride and it feels nothing like the OEM 23’s”.
Doug DeMuro had an interesting take about the XM. He thinks it's supposed to be BMW's answer to the Mercedes Benz G wagon. I don't know if he's right or if it's true, but if that is the case, BMW has completely misunderstood the appeal of the Mercedes Benz G wagon.
@@bmwblog You're right, on the surface they are completely different. But Both the G wagon and XM are smaller, less practical, more compromised, and more expensive Halo SUV than their full size GLS and X7. The only difference is that Mercedes Benz nailed it with the G wagon and BMW completely missed the mark with XM.
@@ravichjakkaratropart5083Yes, XM doesn’t have the long running history of the G wagon, or even families like the Kardashian’s heavily popularizing them in celebrity culture for many years.

I agree, plenty of great BMWs today
You're silly
BMW still makes coupes, some of y'all are so dramatic for no reason

Whatever u say online u can't deny that it's a head turner and people love it in person that aren't bmw fans.

As a true BMW fan since the 70s the XM is just plain ugly. I would take a BMW from the bangle era any day over that monstrosity.
EVERY DAY I see a lot of XMs in Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood…….probably 5-7 EVERY DAY. 🤷🏼♂️

Huge lost opportunity to make an M1 replacement. Which could be another legend like the R8

BMW is not what it once was, but they’re still selling a lot of them. Drivers have changed in the last 20 years, and not for the better.
I test drove one. It sucked! Rough ride, slow, and the a/c wouldn’t kick on and only blew hot air.
It might be a lot of things but it's not slow
@ its slow. Its supposed to be the flagship but its slower then the bmw x5m. X5m is $40k cheaper. Its competitors are faster
Misread the market, put perfectly to my understanding.
Ya it seemed like they were aiming for fashionistas instead of their core people.
I think.

It's really not a competitor to that one. Very different approach
