Rita please come back! I started this nail journey with you and I have a few regular clients while working from home. You're right about working for others It's not financially worth it. I only work 2-4 hours a week and already make half what they offer at most nail salons in my area.

I'm getting ready to retire early due to an injury at my school district job of 22 years and because I'm still young the retirements not that good and I need to take care of my mom and she's getting to this point where I need to be with her more so I'm doing this as an art and a craft you could say and I've been learning all I can from my nail lady and RUclips and I have everything and I practice practice practice and this will bring in a little extra.
And I am going to be able to take some classes at a place but there's not really any nail schools around plus with everything I'm already doing bless that I am I've got people wanting me to do their nails as they love the nails I'm doing on my closest friends! This is encouraging I probably should have been doing this years ago I'm enjoying it so much more then driving a bus!

I find these numbers so low. I charged 50 for a new set in the 1987-1990. 28 for fills.32 for pedicure Product costs have tripled since 1990. So if prices for business costs have tripled I charge accordingly. I do a fill 30 minutes, with Polish. I charge 85 for a new set of nails. I charge 55 for a pink and white or a white and whatever color. I work 5am. This is so disappointing. Nail techs touch people. The only time hair stylists do that is when they really shampoo the hair. Is there a way I can send you my figures. I averaged 400-500 per day. It doesn't matter if you live in a cheap area. I use excellent quality products. I take care of me. I'm very stable. I dint hustle. I tell my people why I do something. I believe what I do. Most nail techs have a I don't care, not good enough. The self esteem in our country is low. Taking care of you is vital to a long stress free life. Most nail techs go to work, go home. They are happy making 12-17 hr. Up your game. I get up at 4:30 every day. And do the same thing. Ladies make your life happen, not somebody else

That is facts that you can make a great income doing nails and the cliche line of "the market is too saturated is worn out .In my personal experience i was getting ready to purchase my own shop last summer the rent is decent.
But my boyfriend told me this and it is a great thing to consider, He said : You just graduated and you don't have a steady clientele. Why would you get a place to struggle to pay rent ... to get a place you have to be the best at what you do." That was a hard pill to swallow but he's right (he has his own business and know that he is talking about ) but i feel certain ways about how to approach it. Some days i feel really frustrated but i don't want to be stuck in a situation where i have dug a hole i can't get out of. I do have a full time job that pays well but its not my passion and does not makes me happy. Because at the end of the day it is a business and you have to treat it as such. Your thoughts?
I agree with your boyfriend. You will need the clientele so to pay for the business. I'm in the same boat. So when it's close for me go into a shop. I plan to do family and friends and then give them a referral discount , but having a savings is going to help too while you are building your clientele.
Are you more interested in being a nail tech or a salon manager/owner?
You can do both of course, but if your strength/passion is for management then perhaps in addition to working as a tech until you get your client base, you should consider finding a mentor/internship type placement for becoming a salon manager and eventual owner.
You would then have greater potential for becoming an owner of an existing nail salon, when/if a current owner decides to retire. Which would give you a pre-existing client base.

That's an attractive feature about when someone does that. It denotes smarts in whatever you do. I sold 14k gold charms and EARRINGS. it was a great income. When they bought. They bought 2 or. minimum. That was my thing. I sold in pairs because my markup was 3 percent less that large chains. I did layaway too. Was great. 2 or. Minimum. You set your own Rules. I still sell 14k, 18k earrings like that. I get my gold from India. Not best gold but looks good. Designs are awesome! Have a peaceful day!
