    My dad drove one of those for Lyons, had a 350 Cummins and was a strong pulling truck. His cabover was a twin screw truck number #972 He worked out of the Oil City terminal.

      I love hearing that Buddy! You sure about the 350? Seems all those 7400s were ordered with the 903/ Roadranger 10 speeds. I could be wrong though. You even know the truck number... that is so cool. Any pics?

    There was a company near me called National Rolling Mills they would buy Freightliner cabovers with 903's in them, I can still see 12 new ones sitting at the dealer in the early eighties when they came from the factory. 903's is all they would buy.

    Seeing the old Red Star Road Commode day cab at 5:24 stirs the memories. An old friend used one to haul steel back in the late 1970’s, it was a day cab twin screw, 903 with a 5 & 4, no power steering. It got the job done, running Chicago & Detroit from N.E. Ohio. One time at the old Truck City place around Detroit, late one night some punks thought they would find a truck driver with a lot of money so the proceeded to try & block him in with a couple four wheelers, but unknown to them my friend was up for a fight & just locked in the power divider & just let the old 903 rip in granny gear & shoved the cars out of the way & even partially ran over one with the tandems on the trailer. He could’ve very easily smoked their asses being he was a former combat vet with time in ‘Nam, but shoving them out of the way seemed like the thing to do at the time apparently.

    SO great you found a V903 NA that runs and drives still.... The US Govt had a lot of VT903Ms and they were used in Bradley fight vehicles and had twin water to air intercoolers and twin turbos and some of them ran well up to 1000 horse ... I work with a crew than runs Super stock pulling tractors that use the 903M Blocks and they can turn well over 6000 horse with OHC and 4 turbos plus twin coolers

    When I was a “kid” I spent some time in a 7400 twin screw with a sleeper. It had a 335 Cummins with at 10 speed,and it really wasn’t a bad truck to drive. But you’re sure right about lifting the cab! I I imagine it was bad enough with a day cab,but try lifting the sleeper version! It really did take two men to lift it,and with ball and socket shifter you needed a third,preferably not to bright person,to stay under the cab while lowering it to make sure the ball went into the socket. I may look stupid,but I’m not that stupid so I did the lifting and lowering.

    • @DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE
      @DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE  Год назад +1

      I hear that! Wasn’t the best idea for cab lifting. They should have just had a cab jack.

    There are no fence-sitters with the Cummins 903. You either love them or hate them. I love them… My first experience with the 903 was in the military. They always got me home. Now I have a 1971 Kenworth 2-axle daycab cabover with a NA V-903. The tractor was built new for Bruce Motor Freight as one of an order of five. Eventually my family got it, and I remembered it from my childhood, but was sold in the early 90’s. I found it again in 2015 and bought it, and I’m now restoring it. I have a few videos of it on my channel. Anyway, I really enjoyed this video. Great editing and storytelling. Plus, what’s not to love with a 903 in a slab cab? Thanks for sharing.

      @DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE  3 года назад

      Thanks Dan, Denny is very knowledgeable and I learn a lot listening to him. I couldn’t believe how that 903 just came to life in 2 seconds. We actually had to delay the run and drive portion a week as there was a little water in one cylinder last week and it “hydra-locked” It was outside a few weeks ago when it snowed and it melted down the intake in back. It’s never left outside so it was just a fluek. Denny knew just what to do and so we just continued the shoot yesterday on such a beautiful day.

    For the first few minutes you kept me guessing about the Fiat Allis (or Fat Alice as we used to say). Figured it to be a 645-B and finally the designation came into view and I was right.

      @@ctprecast7437 no doubt. Just don't care for the attitude many have as if double clutching was bad, or not manly.... it is what the manual says. I have driven my 5 speed bmw without the clutch when the clutch cable broke. I can do it just fine. But using the clutch is much faster. My unimog liked double clutching. I used to do in town door to door deliveries with it.

    Porter greetings! 🇺🇸 Another nice truck and nice coverage! Those little deflectors, if on those Whites, would rust out easily it seems or you would see a chrome one. I imagine they did help some. Was the wench powered by a pto? I assume so. I love the old roller wheel on the back between the frame rails. You don’t see that too often. Wonder if he installed that. And the V903 Cummins…I’ve heard both and good about them. Actually, would it be VT903 and that would refer to it as being turbo equipped? The Movin On KW had a VT903 in it. Did you know that? That was the 1st time I had heard of that engine….I wasn’t sure if it was a Cummins or Detroit or what at that time. I’m still learning about some of those old trucks and engines, and you’re helping as well. Sharp little truck. I love single axles, you know! I didn’t remember the little curve on the front of that cab. Nice design for White. That Cummins seemed a bit peppy…I like that! 🥰 I liked the Hyster trailer, actually both of the trailers. Did you enjoy that ride or what?! Thanks!!! 😎🥰✌️

      It’s a very unique and cool truck for sure. Mine was VT 903, not sure why they used both turbo and non-turbo. Probably to compare. This one is very powerful and pulling a D6 cat at 80 proves it’s a beast. Lol. Thanks for watching as always Porter Prod.😬

      @@DaneScottsTRUCKERSLOUNGE 🇺🇸 If it will pull a dozer like that then it has to be powerful! It did sound like it still had pep in it. I like that in a Cummins engine, and I’m not much of a Cummins lover. I know you liked your White truck! Who wouldn’t! Good action! 😎🤩

    Central Freight has been going downhill since they merged with Viking in the '90s. I lost count of the number of trucking companies that shut down under the last administration.

    Drove a 903 Cummins for one week back in 1973, and a good running 250 would have been better.Hated it!
