  • Great Variety at Carlisle! 43s, 47, 56, 57, 66, 68, 70, 88, Tampers 26 March 24
    I went thinking it would be just another day but the variety really surprised me.
    I was a 8 half hour stint at Carlisle Citadel Station but I wasn't disappointed!
    The Engineer's trains all had loads,
    Two tampers ran into the station and headed south. No idea what the one from Wigan was doing other than route familiarisation as its run a few times in recent weeks.
    The intermodals were fully loaded (even the one from Hams Hall which hid itself from me in Platform 1).
    There were several power moves plus the driver / route learning run with the Freightliner 47. I think Colas 70815 was a failure and was being hauled south for maintenance.
    The Class 43-powered Network Rail test train had arrived before I did and left later that evening.
    And finally four nuclear flasks heading from Hunterston to Sellafield.
    The times shown on clips are for guidance only and shouldn't be taken as definitive.
    Any observations are my own and not intended to show any authority and may show my misunderstanding.

    That is the most life like model railway I have ever seen, very well put together. It looks so real, the kids love it.

      Lol - if you put down track like that on a model you;d say it was badly laid and unrealistic!

    When I watch your videos I always look at the station map on google earth & it never ever fails to amaze me how they planned out the track alignment & routes without having the ability to view from overhead if anyone knows how they did it I would be grateful for your insight & comments & thank you Leslie for taking the time to film edit & upload

      Simple old fashioned surveying and drawing boards! That there was a very similar layout from the 1950s and possibly earlier (back to the 1870s?) would help. Thanks!

      The problem with Dncaster I found was most freight bypasses the station. However you have passenger trains all over the place

    • @OscarTheTrainGuy
      @OscarTheTrainGuy 5 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah i found that too, still a good station though. At around 11:30 to 1 there was just no freight at all, just passenger trains which is annoying tbh

      @LeslieGilpinRailways  5 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks. Class 88 are diesel and electric. You often see them on the Flask trains to Sellafield which is not electrified.

    Why on earth has Class 47830 been named after someone who did untold damage to Britain's railways????
    Damage that is still being felt over 60 years
    later!!!! I would have thought that Beeching would have been the last person a loco should be named after.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways
      @LeslieGilpinRailways  4 месяца назад

      It has carried this name since 2015. Part irony but also it was under Beeching that Freight Liner was formed as part of British Rail

    Great footage. It's starting to get wasted by the amount of adverts interrupting now.

    • @LeslieGilpinRailways

      Thats RUclips unfortunately. They say they put in adverts to meet viewers watching preferences - some viewers see none! They dont say that increasingly they are ones you cant skip out of
