      @@OlettaLiano I'd love nothing more than to abandon Windows for Linux, but a recent attempt to do so has proved that the learning curve is still far to high for those who don't possess at least an average level of coding skills. I have a clean PC in which all of the hardware is less than a year old, but I've had nothing but problems with Mint ranging from video driver & thumbnail cache issues, port problems when trying to install Xampp as a local host server plus an Internet browser that refuses to open even after deleting and re-installing it. Sadly to say, I've had to go back to Windows for the time being.

    Thank you for keeping reminding us the importance for upgrading. I was thinking about doing and since this video popped up it save me for having to search for you pass video's. Once I saw it video and how easy it was, I said lets do it and get it done. One thing I alway do is have a backup of the present system, then after the upgrade, the services pack updates are completed and the system is stable then I preform a backup of the system. This will give me something to go to if there are problems do the road. Plus I do regular backup on a ongoing bases while I am sleep. I never do anything before that process is complete. You made this a painless process and I appreciated you keep after us about it.

    Hey Brian, just so you know Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 don't cease extended support until October 2023. I think Windows 2000 and Windows 7 are the only OSs that reached end of life the same day as their server counterparts.

      No, those are two separate products. I said Windows 2000 and Windows 7 are the only OSs that reached end of life the same day as 'their server counterparts', meaning they reached end of life the same day the server editions of those OSs did too, meaning Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2008 R2. I've got a 2013 Dell Alienware M14 with Windows 7 from new. Dell's website does not recommend upgrading this laptop to Windows 10 and so doesn't provide any drivers or downloads to support this machine. However, I've just swapped out the HDD for a SSD and installed a fresh version of Windows 10. Windows Update did quite a good job of finding the necessary drivers and I used Dell's drivers (Windows 7) for the Creative Sound and the Alienware software and all seems to be okay - it starts now much faster and so far no problems with the Windows 10 operating system.
    However, there are still a couple of system devices missing but one is the ST Micro Accelerator and the Windows 7 driver refuses to install, but I believe this is to protect the hard drive should the laptop be dropped and as I have now put in an SSD I don't think I really need this anyway.

      @@MrJpbmusic2005 Well, it is of course up to you but Windows 10 works so much better on the SSD - startup is almost instant and is so quiet you will wonder if it is actually working. I did a completely fresh install and Windows Update found most of the drivers - there are some on Dell's support site but are not really supported for Windows 10. Make sure you've got the sound software and drivers - mine is Creative Soundblaster - as you may need those. Windows 7 is still my favourite (I have it on another old laptop) but going forward it has to be Windows 10 although these old laptops won't upgrade to Windows 11 without losing support.

      I don't understand why is it so hard for you? Basically, you just download the tool at 1:34 and let it work. In my case, since my system is not up-to-date, I can't upgrade to Windows 10 anyway but I think the whole process is quite easy.

    My problem is that windows 10 SUCKS compared to windows 7. Tweaking windows 10 is made much harder. The abslotue worst is the automated restart when needed for updates. You can with much work prevent this but any time you do a manual update, the automated system including unwanted restarts is back on. This is just one example. And then I am not talking about trying to uninstall spotify. It keeps coming back. I HATE WINDOWS 10 and beyond.

    ● Do I need to uninstall my Avast antivirus first?
    ● Do I need to uninstall everything I installed over the years? (oh I really hope I don't).
    ● I tried to create a system repair disc with a dvd (only option) buy it keeps failing. Is it a must?
    Thanks.

    Brian I love you for this video. I was about to give up figuring out how to do this. I am about to switch from Win7 to 10 for a while now and hit several roadblocks. The most important one is that the "Media Creation Tool" is giving me Error 0x80072F8F - 0x20000. It does that even on hardware that still supports the Win7 Update functionality. I have no idea why it works for you, and doesnt work for me, but with this video I guess I can circumvent it.

    Just mount a Win 10 image on a USB file, restart and enter BIOS, pick the default booting option as the USB and start the Win 10 installation on top of the Win 7 or 8. It will give the option to format your drives, format ALL OF THEM and dedicate at least 500 MB for the running of Win 10 in a separate system drive. The rest you can allocate as you wish, pick one for the installation from them and voilà! You're done

      @@10hourvgm4 you can do it by using rufus. but i guess if you do that method you might have to get a license to activate windows 10, otherwise you wont have personalization features. very expensive here in my country. im bad with computers so i dont know if theres a trustworthy and safe cracked version where you get an already activated windows 10.
      this is why turning a windows 7 or 8 that is already activated into a windows 10 might be a better option since the windows 10 that you get is already activated.

      I have a Vista Ultimate workstation running next to a brand new Win 11 Pro (thanks to Brian's CDkeySales promo) laptop. Vista looks and runs like it's from the future. Win 11 looks and runs like it's from some dusty dungeon.

    • @dalriada842
      @dalriada842 Год назад +2

      @@MrKentaroMotoPI I preferred the look of Vista too. I also didn't have the problems with it that some did. I did feel cheated that, after paying more, the Vista extras you were supposed to get with Ultimate never came to much. I currently have it on an old, but snappy, Mesh laptop for legacy software purposes. Though I don't have it connected to my network. I would sacrifice it though for a spare licence of the latest Windows. I could probably run the old software on WINE/Crossover Office. I'd have to put Vista on a much newer machine to have any hope of updating it to the latest version of Windows though, if that were possible.

    • @MrKentaroMotoPI
      @MrKentaroMotoPI Год назад +1

      @@dalriada842 True. I don't think they released anymore Ultimate extras than what it came with 😑 I still use the lovely Dreamscene wallpaper. My workstation has a GTX 560 ti video card that handles all the Dreamscene and Aeroglass rendering without speeding up its fans. Machines of that era with integrated graphics would struggle since that Vista rendering is constant. Vista Ultimate was the only retail version with Bitlocker, so it was comparable to the current Pro versions. That feature alone would justify it's cost, and it was expensive. I never used bitlocker (I just got thru turning off in 11 Pro) - I just wanted the extras and the nice box it came in ☺️

    Hello, I have a Windows 7 Pro, and I am going to fit a new Hard Drive of 2 TB after backing up the old drive which windows 7 Pro is on now
    ( this old drive is a 3 TB drive but windows 7 Pro for some odd reason only states it has less than 1 TB room? even though I used a software to show the drive as a 3 TB )
    So anyway I got a brand new 2 TB drive I will put that in and remove the old 3 TB so the new 2 TB be the c drive.
    I will re install windows 7 Pro as a basic set up and just some anti-virus software.
    So I will have a fresh new windows 7 Pro on the new drive.
    Will I be able even now ( 16th Oct 2023 ) be able to do what you shown here? And download the ISO of windows 10 Pro and set that up on the new 2 TB drive over the windows 7 Pro?
    Can I after the windows 10 Pro has installed, Make a full back up on to a 32 GB usb memory stick for in case the system needs re-installing?
