    The pilot's name is Neil Steyl and he is from South Africa.
    There's a great article online on how he and his crew and the 41 year old 727 saved the lives of more than 600 displaced Afghan people.

    I am a retired 747 pilot 👮🏿‍♂️I have done hard banks like that many times however not at that altitude when you're comfortable and know your aircraft you can execute those maneuvers however I wouldn't doubt that the captain was a former military pilot . Boeing should put those ole 727 back in service since the max 8 is grounded...lol... man I miss seeing those ole tri stars they were super loud and smokey and very reliable

      Unfortunately "loud and smokey" means it's inefficient and it p*sses off the Karens that bought a house near the airport but expect it to be as quiet as a mountaintop monastery.

    it seems he's a very experienced pilot. He looks very comfortable and secure in all of his movemements. The controls of the plane appears like extensions of his body.

    Sink rate warning on short final in a 727 is hands down the most badass thing on RUclips. Also, I think the AC DC should literally do a version of Thunderstruck with this alerts, maybe live, something you could hear in a Pink Floyd concert. “Thunder! (Sink rate!)/Thunder! (One hundred!)/Thunder! (Fifty, forty...)/ Thunder!”

      Remember that the engines can thrust 73.000 kg of Weight, so they can "Thrust" a Lot of wind easiky

      Not really. The standard MA procedure for rw05 involves a much larger turn while climbing to FL60.

    Wow, to see a Boeing 727 performed a missed approach way below minimums and in a tight turn so close to the water is amazing! and all with dark smoke trails JT8D's.......EPIC. Awesome video!

      Not a missed approach. That is called "A 360 ON SHORT FINAL". Dont do it unless You are "A Hard Maneuvering Pilot".

At the time there were (maybe still are) high risk areas to the left and ahead of the airport thanks to miscreants with man portable surface to air missiles waiting to target a fat juicy airliner. Think of this as a HORIZONTAL go around, where it is unsafe to climb straight ahead as per a normal go around. The Captain is obviously not a child of the magenta line fresh out of ATP training, he knows how to aviate rather than manage a computer system..

      Adrian Barber 3000’ for the area, but over the sea, pilot discretion. He was well over 100’, as that warning sounded as he came back down on second approach.

      When it was a popular plane the airlines had to remind the pilots to NOT fly it like a fighter because it would upset the PAX. Almost everybody loved this plane.

      @@AzTrailRider57 I bet that :D miss these old jets... I never got to fly on the 727, there were not many of them in northern Europe back then, I remember seeing them in continental Europe, Lufthansa had lots of them and Pan Am had them also. I got to fly a lot on the DC-9 and MD-80's.

    Right at middle marker maintain 100 ft AGL, execute right turn 360• once you have runway on sight continue approach!

      sameer asthana That was my first reaction, but looking at the charts, given the high risk of getting shot at, its probably the safest bet; stay low and out to sea, away from the North.

      you do this in a normal airport, the airline will fire your ass as soon as they find out. but this is Mogadishu. if you do a regular missed approach you might get shot over the city.
      anyway, takes a experienced captain and balls of steel to do this

    It looks pretty cool, but as a passenger I'd still prefer the " boring" but safe operation most major Airlines and Aircraft-Companys ask their pilots for.
    But yeah, looks like lots of fun.

      I think you misunderstood: This IS the safer option for a missed-approach procedure in the given airport - anything else (either climbing or flying runway heading) would increase the risk of getting shot at

But a missed/aborted approach should usally lead to another estabished approach, wheather its precision, non precision or visual. in my Opinion there is no reason why he couldnt fly out for a couple of miles and fly an ESTABLISHED approach instead of this manouver. But hey , its`s Mogadishu XD

    Never got to do anything like that. In the Coast Guard, we had AOB rules: No more than 45 bellow 1000 AGL, no more than 30 below 500, no more than 15 below 200.

    Saw this once in 1988 when I worked in Alexandria, Virginia. A 727 was approaching Washington-National Rwy 1 when it rolled gently toward the downtown area did a 360° left turn before proceeding onto DCA. I presume it was done for a similar reason.

      We just make that prison cell fly then! So you can fly that instead and keep doing those orbits...
      But I do think the concrete and steel would make it heavier than what you fly currently though so you may have to get a new type rating for it.

    My god captain!! You should have performed a goaround.....then you should have performed the FORDEC...then you should have performed the NITS.....then you hould have an extensive briefing for another approach....then......then......:) EXCELLENT manouvre Captain!!! Thats what i call flying and not managing:):)
