Went in 2023 and 2024. Beautiful country, lovely people
Will be going back again and again !!🇵🇹❤️
My family in Belgium has been to Portugal. I've never been there, not yet.
We had enough of tourist, please go visit another country
@thepenavaro Unfortunately that's what tourist are doing not. They have found another country to go to. I hope the dip in tourist dollars doesn't hurt the Portuguese economy. They are lovely people. ❤️
American move to Portugal on a American salary,it’s ridiculous to say that housing and the cost of leaving is affordable if you work here 🙄
That is true...I do however , remember meeting someone from Monaco being in the US on their Monoca salary in Baltmore.
The root of problem is the weak economy and low wages, not the cost of living. Elsewhere, CoL is even higher. Lots of Portuguese working in Switzerland (literally the most expensive place in Europe).
Americans, hire us remotely as individual contributors! We are extremely competent.
@@ruimpinho the root of the problem is always politically debatable. one can say that virtually about any city and any country which is lower compared to the country of origin of the immigrant. if we wanna talk about real problems we should address this ridiculous logic that incites people from better-off countries to settle in ours while the population of the country they want to migrate to is not developed to their standards. that creates a plethora of struggles, one of the reasons why people are resorting to far-right political parties. EU should prioritize locals over tourists, expats and digital nomads. otherwise you risk Europe becoming a Disneyland and local culture and society being completely obliterated and forgotten
Thank socialists for destroying Portuguese businesses.
yeah but if its easy to commute, you don't really need a car mortgage ;)
Portugal is an accessible country for foreigners and is becoming a country for foreigners because nationals do not have the conditions and money to live a stable life. It is very sad to see this situation happen. I'm not sending anyone away, I just think it's important to talk about this.
Yes we cant send anyone away how dare we.
The recent influx of Americans to Portugal has made it difficult for locals to survive, especially in major cities. The increased demand for housing has led to a significant rise in rent and property prices, making them unaffordable for many Portuguese residents. Additionally, the overall cost of living has increased as businesses and services adjust to the higher spending power of American expatriates!
You do know that it's not just americans, right?
@@telgrupos6143 Absolutely, it's not just Americans, but they do make up a significant portion of the recent influx. The number of Americans moving to and visiting Portugal has notably increased, more so than tourists from many other countries. This heightened interest has had a substantial impact on housing prices and living costs. Managing this situation requires careful intervention by local, regional, and national authorities to ensure a balance between welcoming tourists and maintaining affordability for residents.
Americans buy expense houses... the market crisis is in the Affordable Houses....
Americans can come as they want, the problem is the Immigration from poor countries....
BS. The problem is in the low salaries. There's thousands of Portuguese people working in more expensive countries. The low wages are the only thing that needs to be fixed.
@@telgrupos6143 trust her, the majority of 'em are Americans.
Moved from Florida to Portugal & it was the best decision ever!! Loving this beautiful country 🇵🇹 and the amazing people as well!!
I'm glad you enjoy living in Portugal, our Spanish friends have a saying: "Mi casa es tu casa" my house is your house, well to you I say my country is your country, you are more than welcome here in Portugal, best regards
@@Leandro22Martinho Thank you! Yes I know the saying ☺️ grew up in a Puerto Rican household and that was our #1 motto. From the moment we moved here, we have been treated like family 💚💚

Glad for you!
Wellcome to Portugal 🇵🇹 🇺🇸

While Portuguese struggle to make ends meet
Unfortunately, most Americans don't care about others. They've ruined the US, and now they want to leave.
There are people that struggle to make ends meet everywhere you idiot. Don't comment if you have nothing intelligent to say.
The same happens within the US too. A person that moves from New York City to Nashville probably comes out ahead as well. And if people did that in droves, it would have a huge impact on Nashville.
@@crecasensbut at least culturally not the same impact. Many that move from the US don’t even bother to learn the language (as well as the economic impact). And as America is likely the richest country in the world there isn’t really a pressing need to leave whereas the Portuguese are some of the lowest earners in Europe.
That being said… I do want to move there myself 🤦🏽♂️. Great people. But will learn the language at least!
who cares. it's ~cheap~ for americans
Meanwhile, taxes portuguese workers pay every month to subsidise health and educational system will increase to support this recent demand. Portuguese pockets are getting emptier to provide comfort to forigners, its haven't with increase of cost of living and housing too, its painful to see this new obligation...to be this amazing host no matter what cost
One of my dream destinations. So beautiful ❤❤❤
Portugal is truly awesome…..it would be the best place to move, imo, of any place I’ve ever visited…..
Same for me.
❤ ❤ ❤
For americans, from a Portuguese Citizen:
The housing crisis is not your fault. We have over 30 years of lack of house building backlog. Do your higher salaries in competition with ours hurt our bottom line? Obviously. Is the situation your fault? No.
If you wish to come here , adapt to our lifestyles and peacefully participate in our home, do it :)
Are there talks or a movement for Portugal to join Spain?
@@PaulyWally30 No, there are no serious talks or movements for Portugal to join Spain. The idea makes no sense historically, culturally, or politically. Portugal has a strong sense of national identity, distinct language, and values its sovereignty.
fala uma pessoa nascida em 1965 que não está a olhar para o recibo de vencimento e para as ofertas de aluger/casas para comprar e a ter uma crise de pânico.

A quick flight to other countries. Leaving the rat race.
Not sure Portugal needs even more Americans tbh. Also, why you guys bash us "lazy Europeans" and then rush to live here because "quality of life"?
Once a country is featured on GMA or big media outlet, it's almost too late in terms of prices, rentals and will get flooded...Portugal has been gaining fans quietly for at least 10 years off the radar.
Good luck finding a local in one of those beautiful villages. The Portuguese are being forced out of their scenic and traditional towns where their ancestors have lived for hundreds of years because Americans and northern Europeans are buying up all the houses, raising prices. The quality of life has worsened drastically in the last ten years because of gentrification. It has increased the cost of everything and crime has risen in a country that until recently was one of the safest in the world. The foreigners that come and that perceive themselves as "expats", which are nothing more than immigrants with much more money than the national average, do not learn the language, do not establish contact with those who already live here and erase traditions, places and values just to have access to a luxury life at a cheaper price. Your vacation home is one less house for a Portuguese. Regards from the Algarve.
Super expensive now, people spoil everything for all.

@@vervideosgiros1156 Sim, lá nisso concordo!
Here's some news they won't tell you about Portugal 🇵🇹...
For locals, housing costs are through the roof. Crime has spiked. International gangs from South America, Africa and India have set up shop. Mass illegal immigration has lead to tent encampments on the streets and a sharp rise in street crime.
The once perfect balance of cultural liberalism and deep rooted traditionalism has been upended by far left American style woketivism. This of course is giving rise to right wing parties reacting to all the problems imported by the delusional left.
Portugal 🇵🇹 is still beautiful, but for how long?
Originally from CA, we moved here from the Seattle area in 2016. Eight years of happiness!
I just found out I have Portuguese heritage, I would love to visit.
Nice. I'd like to visit as well even if I'm not of Portuguese origins. Some of my family members visited this beautiful country and Spanish.

I'd just like to infuse the conversation with a few facts. I spent about 2 years prepping for a Portugal move, now I'm looking more at Cyprus and one other country. But I think you should take a look at who is REALLY moving to Portugal from the official numbers. Americans don't even remotely come close to Brazilians, Brits, Europeans from the EU or even the Indians and Chinese. We're barely in the top 20.

I was in Portugal with a tour group last October. We visited Porto, Lisbon, Algarve, Coinbra, etc. Probably the typical 7 day destinations for most tour companies. Other than NZ, Portugal is the only country I was so impressed by, that I would want to move there. Many mentioned great/healthy food, friendly people, wonderful weather, etc. However none mentioned how clean it is. Granted in the larger cities one might see an overflowing trash can. Imagine my surprise and delight as I looked out the window of our bus, whether on an interstate or smaller road, I never saw one piece of trash! Unlike here in the USA. To me this shows pride in one’s country and environment. If I were not 73 years old, I’d consider moving there in a heartbeat.
Not Coinbra but Coimbra who is the capital of Portugal not Lisbon
@@oscarmontenegro5658 também voto Coimbra para capital de Portugal novamente. Um bem-haja!

GMA goes to explore Portugal only to interview some random brazilian woman. Seriously? How incompetent can you be?
Portuguese go to US to earn a better salary. Americans go Portugal to save money off the aalary they bring from US. They live on a virtual world to experience (if the want) a real world.
There is something really valuable to learn from this experience of Americans coming to live in Portugal...first portuguese people will learn with Americans how to be positive and have entrepreneur mindset, that risk is a good thing and not a bad thing in terms of doing business...second, Americans will learn with the portuguese not to rush things, that life is not a rat race no more, that everything in life takes their time and it’s pace and everything will work just fine!
In my humble and honest opinion, it’s a win-win situation for Americans and portuguese! Just have in mind one thing 90% of portuguese can’t afford a house 500000$ or more...so this is really your market...luxury market...don’t buy houses less than this because the portuguese will not be able to live anywhere else in their own country and that’s a shame! If all the locals runaway the culture of the country will end and what is the point of living in another country and culture if it’s not there anymore?!
So we must achieve a balance so everyone will live happy and fulfilled in a certain country and culture...I hope Portugal will become that success story for both! 🤗🙏🏻
How do you achieve a balance with just one individual?
@@JasonJFlippingLife can you explain better your point??
"first portuguese people will learn with Americans how to be positive and have entrepreneur mindset" - first of all, that depends on the Americans. Brazilians and Hispanic Americans aren't very different from the Portuguese in that case.
And even with the Americans from the US or Canada what generally happens is not that Portuguese people learn how to be positive and have entrepreneur mindset, what happens is that prices are inflated and Portuguese people can't afford even to buy a home, which ends up pulling people out of the city centers, which in turn inflates prices in the suburbs because of higher demand and not enough houses. That's the unfortunate reality.
Learn from Americans, you are joking right ??
Besides some indoctrinated Portuguese youth from usa internet gurus.
Our purchasing is nothing compared to the USA,we are still paying for bankruptcy, that’s why a lot of young people catch flights to other schengen countries.
Life isn't a race for most Europeans, that's why their entrepreneur mindset failed across Europe.
I would move - it’s really time for a better quality of life!! It’s becoming inhospitable in the US.
Porto❤️❤️
The sun, the beaches, the food, that is all very nice in picture, but I assure you if you come here you better have a plan to make money, don't expect people to be fair to you there's no American dream here, capitalism dried this country and life is very hard.
Lower housing costs for you. For the Portuguese it's sky high. Thanks a lot
Basta!! Quero estas multidões de turistas fora de meu país. Portugal não tem mais sua personalidade esta ficando descaracterizado. Odeio. Quero nossa tranquilidade de volta.

Portugal is ~5-10 safest country in the world. The U.S…? ~120-130. It’s easy to understand why anyone with a family would want to move somewhere safe, like Portugal.
Maybe if you got rid of your guns, your country would be safer. It's not that other countries are safer its that the US is so dangerous. You have a gun culture and you are paying a very serious price. The rest of the civilized world looks at the US in bewilderment. You want your guns....mind boggling
Wow, Good Morning US went to Portugal as well. I'm famous, mom! 😅
While I am so happy to see so many successful expat stories, it's so sad to see so many people have to leave their country simply because it is not affordable.
I agree. Good to see American immigrants doing well in other countries.
Same applies to Portuguese people. We have to leave Lisbon as well because of the increasing of the prices due to Tourism..
This adorable mom teaches her childreen that their decisions of ''political correct way of consumption with glances of spiturual mindset'' causes critical shortage on house affordability and increase of cost of life and caresty to local tugas who earn stoic wages?

Portugal is safe because they have less migration of North Africans when compared to Spain. The moment the migration starts hitting Portugal, that safety will be over
Less North african but more brasilians and Lots of pakistanies and indians
There’s not a lot of Maghreb but like any big group of people the percentage of bad apples also increase, Brazilians are the majority (400k legal +200k waiting to become legal), then palops and Indians,Pakistanis,Nepaleses, 50k uk citizens 10k USA citizens.
Still it’s a mess,already dropped a place in safety
According to the OIV, the top 10 countries in terms of per capita wine consumption are:
Portugal: 61.7 litres per capita.
France: 45.8 litres.
Italy: 42.1 litres.
Maybe these people just like wine lol!
Hahaha... I bet most of them do & the others will follow soon considering Portugal's great affordable & so many varieties of wines from the islands to the mane land , its all so good :)).... happy to see us on another list where Portugal the great is #1 ... we're %1.. we're #1 .. we're #1..... :)
If only some low cost airlines offered flights from the US to Portugal, even if it was to the Azores, it would be more affordable to visit

I am Portuguese and this content idealizes Portugal. I believe that unless you are an alternative kind o character you as an American will struggle to live here. GMA/Disney pays for Robin to go on a 5 star vacation to Portugal. As a viewer, why would I want to watch this?. Rich person goes on free vacation for 'work'
Yeah... Foreigners coming into several countries in Europe and buying hauses and land the feel it's cheap, even paying a bit over... And so rising and rising the prices so that the locals can't afford it anymore. Don't know what the solution to that is... Cause it's not only an foreigners thing, it's a wealthy people thing, people in our own countries do it too... So a thing about rich vs poor, not local vs foreign, and you don't have to be crazy rich to take more than you need and there for make it unavailable for others
