    How is the MDF holding up? Once it gets wet from sweat it will swell and flake. Did you paint it? It’s also much heavier than ply. I’m building one to be portable as well as collapsible so will go with lighter pine ply and put a fins h sealer on it. I understand it’s more expensive.
    I may go with a through mortise and tenon joint to fix the legs to base, then secure with 3/8” carriage bolt and wing nut for tooled removal (instead of collapsing). No tension rod or other stabilizer necessary.
    Lastly, I understand how you came up with 13” length on the cross legs - it’s what was left over. Is it enough? Is it stable. Most benches would be 24” ish

    Would you say the overall height is the standard height for typical benches ? How does this bench perform under high loading ?

    • @aaronfixesstuff
      @aaronfixesstuff  4 года назад

      Jaysen Zapata I would say it’s about the same height. I’m 5’9 and when I use it, my feet are planted on the ground. As far as high loads, I didn’t make any really heavy weights to test it on. I’d say that the weakest part is the swing arms, and I put a piece of 2x4 in between the frame and backrest for added support.

      Marcus Kliewer that’s a good question. I checked Home Depot and it doesn’t say. What I did on the prototype (which only had a 1/4 bolt), was to add a piece of 2x4 to help support the weight. You can also use a thicker bolt and just drill a bigger hole.

    Was the height of the notches for the bench incline too high for you to notch out with your miter saw? I ask because I feel like doing the notches before you assemble it seems easier, no?

    • @aaronfixesstuff
      @aaronfixesstuff  4 года назад +1

      Hamaza Azam you’re right, it would be easier. The problem was that I didn’t know where the notches would go because I was not working off of a guide. I figured it out as I went.

    Interesting concept but I believe using 2x12, while more work, is a better choice of wood.
    First a 2x12 has to be cut from much older trees. Therefore it is more stable than a 2x4 or even a 4x4 that are cut from younger trees.
    Second, after cutting a part to length, you will rip it into several boards. Therefore, you get much better use out of the linear board length.
    Third, laminating the 1.5x3.5 inch cut boards not increases the strength by alternating growth patterns, the same reason manufactured wood is more stable. But it also allows you to use tenons and mortise construction by simply cutting the pieces to proper length to assemble in an overlapping fashion.

    Olá sou do Brazil. Acho incrível trabalho em madeiras. Você fez um banco reclinável incrível. Eu tenho dificuldade de fazer um trabalho assim igual ao seu, porque as máquinas que você usa é muito caro aqui e também para fazer um curso de carpinteiro também não é barato. E não tem curso deste tipo que seja gratuito. Desde criança sou fascinado por trabalho assim com madeiras. Seria um sonho poder trabalhar com isso, mais como eu falei não é fácil. Hoje tenho 50 anos de idade e o tempo passou e não consegui aprender a fazer esses trabalhos magníficos. Parabéns pelo seu talento. Me inscrevi no seu canal para assistir seus vídeos, pois tenho certeza que você tem vídeos incríveis. Parabéns e um grande abraço.

      Same that you did with the back.
      Here you can check the pictures of my bench.
      Actually I wanted it to be red but when I mixed the colors it came out pink haha.

      It’s really hard to tell. I’ll say this. The weakest part are the swing arms. So what I did to compensate for that is I prop a 2x4 between the backrest and the frame. Hope this helps!

    Nice but what's the weight capcity how much weight can it hold while in a flat bench postion and how much weight can it hold in an incline position and I'm not talking about your weight your weight shouldnt even count can it hold over 300 at least not counting your weight if your weight counts its already a flop in weight capacity

    Awesome bench! Gonna make this next week. Just one question: do the interior bolts that connect 1x2s to the 2x2s not interfere with the 4x4 in the completely flat position? Or did u cut out a notch just for those bolts?
    Thanks for the video man! Really needed this during the pandemic!

    • @aaronfixesstuff
      @aaronfixesstuff  4 года назад +2

      Toacin Patwary exactly right! That’s a great question:)
      I cut a notch out where the bolts meet the 4x4 so when it lies flat, they sit in the notch. Good luck with the build, glad to help and let me know if you have any other questions!!
