I get that everyone had different preferences, but this just reminds me of that 2012 trend of ruining furniture to “upcycle” it. Just swap out the fabric. Honestly even with the yellow I liked it better before.
Ok dictator. Guess what. It's HERS and she can do whatever she wants with it. This is what you're complaining about today??? How sad to be so miserable like you. Maybe therapy??
Same. I thought the final outcome was hideous. I would much rather have the original piece and even though the fabric wasn’t that bad, I would have just stapled on a cute floral fabric. This video threw me.
The yellow fabric wasn't *ugly*. Neither was the plywood *ugly*. I liked it before it was redone. Butliked the afterwards also... Depends on your decor style-
Yes, I might have changed the fabric to something fresher, but I preferred the original wood over the black distressed look. And what's with the handle?
How the heck are ya supposed to keep up with these camera angles!?😒. And don’t wanna hurt your feelings but it’s ugly now. Looks like ya drug it out the garbage. And why did ya put a handle on it?
No such thing as good or bad taste, just personal taste. I personally have never liked the worn out look. IMO just makes what could look new look like something that either needs to be redone or thrown out. But hey if you like it then that’s your taste.
I just really don’t care for the distressed look at all. It looks like old furniture that’s been beaten and banged around. I’m sure my style isn’t for everyone either.
Well as long as she likes it that’s what matters. ❤ There’s a nice way to say anything so can we be kinder when offering our 2 cents ? I also liked the color before but she didn’t make it for me. I even liked the black before distressing but again it was not customized for me. I appreciate seeing the work behind transforming one style into another ❤.
I've noticed that most furniture renovations done by DIY projects turn out not so likely to be nice to look at but the work that they do is awesome and I would give them credit for it. 😊
I have 3 of these storage foot stools from the 90’s. My pups use them to hop up to all the beds. Been wanting to change the fabric for awhile but I’ll simply coverup the old fabric with new fabric so in decades to come a new owner can be wowed to find the antique print that secretly lies beneath my flip.
That is fun! My mom was an antiques dealer back in the 70s-80s. I have several pieces with layer upon layer of fabric and underneath it all horsehair for the padding. 😮 All of that helps to date some pieces. I have a pair of dining chairs from the 1920s. They were on the street for the community cleanup. Hideous pale blue fabric covered with clear vinyl. Bottom of seat marked by upholsterer in 1972! We know the guy that put them out. He put 2 more out later that I missed. They were his grandparents. He remembered holidays in the 1930s with those chairs. No one wanted them, had been in the garage for 30 years. Sad. They're English oak, go for about $150 each if you can find them.
I swear life is weird!! I found one of those awhile back at the thrift store and Iv had it put away and TODAY I was thinking I could take top off and make a little table for a plant😮 now I see your video!! Thanks
I've had a stool for 3 YEARS that I've been meaning to make a plant stand out of haha I even bought wood for the top. I just forget about it b/c it's not right in my sight 24/7 and I'm dumb haha
WOMAN WHY YOU CARE WHAT TYPE OF WOOD ITS MADE OF IF YOURE GONNA SPRAY PAINT IT ANYWAY 😭😭😭😭😭 Also instant coffee doesnt stain, it sits on top and makes it sticky. Regular coffee is at least not sticky but still not the best as a stain.
The fabric wasn't ugly and looked really new, and the wood wasn't plywood. I get it you want your "find" to look like trash so your treasure will look fantastic.
@tracy36 How was I unkind? People are entitled to their opinions.. even if it hurts your feelings Plus I'll watch what ever I want even if it hurts your feelings.
@@stanleyhape8427indeed. I was just going to say that. If we were all of the same opinion what would be the point. I agree with your opinion Stanley and apparently we are not alone as I read other peoples opinions..lol
_I_ also thought that the fabric was just fine. Now the color of the wood, on the other hand... THAT I would sanding down and changing pronto, lol. But the little footstool in general was a handy dandy find.
I found the original stool more appealing. Can you imagine here in Manitoba they painted McDonald’s restaurant black on the outside and black and gray on the inside. McDonald’s that used to be a bright orange and a happy place to go. And then this cute stool is turned into a black old stool. Very peculiar.😂 I do not understand this love of black.
I like the yellow fabric but I'm old school I'd tone that yellow wood down though. For your style it turned out great and I'm not usually a fan of that style.
Its interesting to see other peoples DIY upcycling ideas come to life. Though we all don't like the same còlors or stains, I do enjoy seeing other peoples DIY creations. Thanks for sharing. I love what you did with the stool!
Love it! My identical rescue piece almost killed me when two legs broke off when I stood on it. I wish I'd thought of making a tiny accent table. It's charming that way. 😊
They aren't step stools. They're foot stools which used to be more common. The storage was so you could toss your magazine or needle work out of sight when you weren't sitting there. Sorry about your foot stools. Hopefully you weren't injured.
I would have kept it a footstool, changing the fabric & keeping the paint job fresh instead if the scuffed/sanded look. Created “weathered” looks aren't my style but to each their own.
Nice find, and the fabric wasn't that bad but would had toned down the golden wood stain. Not a fan of the "rustic feel" end result.
Love the old fabric
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.I thought it was fine before.
I get that everyone had different preferences, but this just reminds me of that 2012 trend of ruining furniture to “upcycle” it. Just swap out the fabric. Honestly even with the yellow I liked it better before.
I agree.
😂 I definitely agree with you. She ruined the wood.
I thought she was going to leave i
The wood all black 😬
@@naomia.medina1071 She ruined the natural color of the wood.
Ok dictator. Guess what. It's HERS and she can do whatever she wants with it. This is what you're complaining about today??? How sad to be so miserable like you. Maybe therapy??
I actually liked the fabric. Happy and relaxing color. I liked the original better, however you did a good job transforming it to something different
Each to their own. I thought the yellow just needed changed. It was so beautiful.
💯 agree
Same. I thought the final outcome was hideous. I would much rather have the original piece and even though the fabric wasn’t that bad, I would have just stapled on a cute floral fabric. This video threw me.
Preferred it before, but that’s my opinion.
That was a cute sewing stool.
Turned a wonderful natural wood stool into something I wouldn’t store in a barn!
The walls of the base are composite board, I had the same. I damaged it by leaving it on my porch.(that's how I found out)😢
Not sure it's an improvement, but to each his own. Hope you enjoy it for years to come.
Yours is a nice comment! So many not nice ones here…😢
I loved the yellow fabric! Why would you call it ugly? Maybe just say it was to your taste?
Maybe just to mystify people enough to fill up the comments. 🤔 She thinks the fabric is ugly. I think her redo is ugly.
The yellow fabric wasn't *ugly*. Neither was the plywood *ugly*.
I liked it before it was redone. Butliked the afterwards also... Depends on your decor style-
That was a deliberate down cycle.
I liked the before.
Me too
Yes, I might have changed the fabric to something fresher, but I preferred the original wood over the black distressed look. And what's with the handle?
Yes, me too. I loved the original wood grain. 😥
I don't understand the effort with the top and paint the bottom. I wouldn't call it up cycle.
How the heck are ya supposed to keep up with these camera angles!?😒. And don’t wanna hurt your feelings but it’s ugly now. Looks like ya drug it out the garbage. And why did ya put a handle on it?
I hate that they always use black spray paint! And it looked like it was pulled out of the trash when it was done. It looked better before the start.
I don't like black either. There are so many prettier shades but some people like the old dark color. To each his own.
And why didn’t she just add another fabric instead of adding a piece of pine? Every decision made is hurting me. Why??
I rather have the black paint than the ugly green that is "in"
Black can be combined with any color.
Natural wood is my personal favorite.
Looks great. The flat top extends the usefulness.
I am the only one that really liked the original?
No, I don't know why people are doing in love with black paint. It shows dust and dirt in a heartbeat. Liked the original better
No, you’re not. That was an adorable sewing box.
U are not alone.
I thought the after looked like something you would find and try to fix. It was actually pretty hideous after.
Definitely hated seeing it's destruction.
No such thing as good or bad taste, just personal taste. I personally have never liked the worn out look. IMO just makes what could look new look like something that either needs to be redone or thrown out. But hey if you like it then that’s your taste.

Agreed. The after is worse than the before
The original was cute and serviceable.
I do this professionally and I gotta hand it to you, that's better than my work, I have some work to do! Great job girl, I'd buy that in a heartbeat 🤩
I'd love some advice, I use coffee stain and repurpose whatever I can but your work is just beautiful!
Beautiful work ❤. Thanks for sharing your vision ❤
I totally love how you redone it. It's beautiful.
That pine looks much better than that MDF or plywood or whatever it was. Cute piece!
It was chip board.
I didn’t realize there was a hinged lid! That is so charming for some secret storage and you did a beautiful job updating the look!!
Thank you 🤗
Well with that she can put a book in there or hide her snacks just in case..
Back in the olden days they would put their embroidery in there.
Updating? She destroyed it. Society has gone to sheet with their interpretations of what is nice. Lowered expectations.
Although I don’t care for the after, it was something that you really liked and that’s what counts
I think it looked better before their renovation
Rustic and Shabby Chic are out.
Try Sophisticated and Classy.
You made a good effort and that's what counts.
Oh know. That’s the southern equivalent of “bless her heart!”

Absolutely Gorgeous looks Classy!! Can't believe people like how it was before. Boring Dated and dull.
Well Done!
I loved the makeover, everyone is different. To each his own. We are all unique in a special way. ❤

Yea that was ugly with a stable flip top… however I’m a beginner and I know a few of my items were also ugly.
At least she's out there doing some stuff. While y'all sitting on your duff watching other people.

It was nice but you could have used a better handle😊

THAT'S NOT PLYWOOD. It's a type of particle board. Plywood would be an improvement over that piece of "wood".
Exactly. Much stronger.
I have that exact stool! I wrapped the pillow part w a t-shirt, drew a hello kitty head and now its a cute stool!!!
