So I just got doing this on our 2006 Sonata using Tech4Tech's directions. Worked pretty well, but here is some advice for newbies like me. I used a fel-pro gasket instead of the RTV for the gasket. When I went to put the air conditioner compressor bracket back on now the 2 bottom screws would not screw in cuz the gasket made the bracket a bit lower. After a 1/2 hr. grinding of the top of the bracket, now it fits... Do like he says: use RTV. I used the black RTV that is meant for oily stuff, but I only used it to tak my gasket. Another tip: the torque spec for the bolts is 8 ft-lbs. and U want to start in the middle of the long side of the oil pan and go in an X pattern side to side on the pan on the bolts so it seats down evenly. Happy Motoring!
Great video. I still have my 2008 and saw the wet rusty oil pan when I was replacing the exhaust. After dealing with rusty nuts on the exhaust manifold/converter, this video shows it should be easy to replace the oil pan. Thanks for sharing your work!
Definitely glad I seem this video because I may have a leak in my oil pan (same model vehicle). Will get another and do this over the next weekend. Thanks!!
Great video and only one I found for Sonata. As some one mentioned the dealer gets 3 hours labor, multiply that times $125 an hour and about $100 parts and materials and this is about a $500 job at the dealer. Don't despair if it took you more than an hour to do. He did it on a lift, most of us will be doing it on jack stands laying on our back. I just did mine and it took 2 hours. If using a gasket or RTV you still have to leave all the bolts loose on the A/C bracket until they are all started.
The fun part for me was the compress bolts. A little trouble getting them out. To get them back 'i had to use the gasket from a tube, file down the air compress bracket that butts up next to the oil pan flange and clean the air compress bold guides where the bolts exit to go to the bracket. This way everything would line back up. Good luck with your replacement project.
How many bolt holes is your oil pan? I have a 2007 and the replacement pans on rockauto are either 22 or 23 bolts. It's hard to count while underneath the car without having a lift! Thanks for this much needed video. Now I have to decide if I'm going to spend the money on the new pan or try to patch the rusted cracks that are leaking! (Basically in the same exact spot as in your video)
Not really sure, I tried to count from the video. If it were me I would buy a factory replacement….then It would fit perfect, and looked up by vin. I don’t think it was very expensive, they would also have the correct sealant for the application. Sorry I couldn’t help more
it's interesting you said you took an hour, Hyundai is telling me since my vehicle has AC it will take 3hrs for them.. :| I told them I will do it in an hr thanks to this video
j3rmain I know this was 2 years ago but yeah the dealer usually goes by book time labor. Just so they can make money off of you, hope you’re car is running good.
Hi there. I have a Hyundai Tucson g4gc 2.0L. Can anyone show me how to remove the oil pan from underneath. I've got all the bolts out but the pan is stuck between the transmission box and the cross member. Thanks

George Carlin thanks for the advice have to tackle this task in a bit now im prepared
Wish I would have found this comment earlier. Gasket threw me off and spent hours trying to figure out why, obvious but wasn’t thinking. Thanks!

Thanks. I gotta do this on my Son's car and I'm not the worlds best mechanic. This helped me a lot. Thanks again.

That 12mm 12 point got me good today, just gonna have a shop do this job as I'm tired of being under this 2011 sonata lol

This video helped alot. Thank you!
Is there a sequence to put the bolts backs on or truck because I cannot get the 2 horizontal bolts to line up
Thanks for this video It helped me greatly!!
Looking to do this on my car but i want to replace the bolts that go in pan due to rust any idea of what that part number is?
Getting ready to do this tomorrow morning.
What’s did you torque spec the bolts too? I read 8lb
This is for the 4 cylinder engine? 2.4?
Thanks for the video .
how tight should one set the bolts be that hold the oil pan to the engine? Would this be the same as the 2007 Sonata as well?
I can't get the AC compressor bracket to realign properly. All the bolts match up but the two cross bracket bolts don't match up. Any suggestions?
Might be upside down?
Where is the oil pan gasket? Oil pan gasket is used or only sealant is used.
factory calls for liquid sealant, RTV. I would use factory RTV, and did
thanks. did it come with a new gaskets
Rtv sealant is what it has from the factory. I purchased that separate

Did you let the sealer dry, 5, 10, 20 min ?
after installing the oil pan it’s suggested to wait12/24 hours to cure... a few hours is probably ok...

maybe loosening the sub frame bolts would gain some clearance. do don’t fully take them out unless the engine is supported from the top.
How much torque do u use for oil pan bolts?
I hand tightened all the bolts, never looked up spec.
This car is my next project all though I still have a Impala and F-150 I need to work on
did you use a gasket when replacing it ??? or liquid gasket ??
Liquid sealant is what should be used
They charging $500.00 USD at the dealership!
Now you know what to charge hehe
Thanks!
I had a shop tell me they had to take out the whole engine to do this. Wtf 😒😒
relatively easy job doesn’t require engine removal for replacement. consider a new shop.
