  • In this video we are going to analyse a game (from the ChandDDra) invitational, where a player got stuck early on, unable to find a good plan.

You make chess sound so simple. The annoying thing is that you are right. I try to put your advice in my games and I've been improving since.
These videos are incredibly useful for a club level player like me. Thanks a lot for making them!

I like that you have no mercy for stupid moves. Very useful observations in this video. It' also one of my main flaws as a mediocre player, that at some point I start to become 'creative' and not follow the fundamentals.

As a mediocre player myself, this really is a good reminder to get back to fundamentals.

Great video!! But I call "shenanigans" on the statement at 4:23 "I would like to be going gentle on you..." Uhh. 🤨
    I don't think that's true at all.
Separately, it just takes some club players a very long time to habitually identify all important captures (after every move) without lapses or blind spots.
Especially those who have played too much speed chess.

In Mexico we have a saying: "If in any given position you don't know what to do, just move a pawn."
Of course, it's a joke but the funny thing is that some beginners believe it's a serious advice.

I think I understand the idea behind the h3 Nh2 Bf3 plan, its to simply put more pressure on the d5 pawn. The problem is it way too slow and not only neglects development but somewhat undevelops a bit with a clunky knight on h2.

The only practical advantage to "retreating moves," is that they are so non-sensical, they are clearly a suprise to the opponent, and in a rapid or blitz game gain time. A stupid reason, but but blitz and rapid are often stupid forms of chess.

At 13:03 why didn't white instead of taking the bishop with his king, take blacks bishop on c7 with his night, threatening to take either of black rooks. Queen has to take the knight and the eval stays the same but the battery is ruined and one could argue that bishop is worth more than whites knight at that time. Is it just because you shouldn't trade pieces if you're down or am I missing a strategy?

I have played an OTB tournament and created a lichess study where I analysed all of my game without engine. Do you want to check out?
I tried to do two things in that tournament. Create dynamic positions and calculate to my maximum limit.

Someone should link this video to Stjepan from Hanging Pawns channel. I'm not saying he's a bad person or player (it's quite the opposite), but sometimes pretty intuitive moves or concepts seem just non existing to him due to sooo defensive mindset which you talk so much about.

Is the possibility of a passed pawn what makes the potential pawn chain for black on d5-c4 and eventually possibly d5-c4-b5-a6 better? You mentioned that black needed to recognize that the c4 move in itself doesn't make any sense unless you try and prevent white from attacking it.
I'm only 1800 and I've been struggling recently, I think understanding pawn structures could help me greatly so that is the reason for the question.

    • @JanKowalski-je7qf
      @JanKowalski-je7qf Год назад

Past pawn has a value when it's not blockaded or it's hard to blockade. D5-c4 chain usually is first of all neither of the above, second of all it can be pretty quickly attacked with e4 break which destabilizes whole structure. You have to be very, very sure with pushing c4 and know that you must generate with it a lot of play, otherwise these pawns are just weakness which other side can counterattack with central break

Wow, just found this vid and lots of gold nuggets. “You are preventing [your opponent from making] a blunder” “Have you EVER seen h3 Nh2 Bf3 been played higher than 2200” “When you don’t know what to do, take a step back, have you developed your pieces?” “Bd6 is a mistake bc it allows b3, which renders c4, a very committal move, useless”

The algorithm is terrible. To get new viewers you have to constantly court meaningless controversy. Just slam some other famous streamer and get into a fake online battle. Or challenge them to a chessboxing match.
