A really great album that I first heard in 1976. I was playing in a country rock band and I thought this was the greatest sound that I’d ever heard. A great time in my life. It’s great hearing it again here.
I first heard this song as a young man on radio station KFAT in June of 1976. I had just been released from the Air Force ( Cannon AFB Clovis New Mexico ) and came home to Richmond California. I was in my garage unpacking my transferred home furnishings and decided I wanted to hear some music to pass the time while unpacking.. I turned on my Pioneer 1050(?) Receiver, twisted the radio dial thru several stations....listening to static....more static....junk pop music....some cruddy Nashville String Country. I was so disappointed , hearing the same "ole stuff" and then...... this song pops on , somewhat fuzzy and coming from radio station on 94.5 FM, and from from the "town" of Gilroy'! This song grabbed me!. I did not even wait to hear who sang the song. I hurried down to the hardware department at Sears Roebuck ( remember that store? ), got some antenna wire and "stung it up". KFAT came in clearer but not perfect but that was part of the "experience" of listening to that remarkable station. Great songs I'd never heard, waiting till sundown so the signal would increase, turning on my Reel To Reel recorder to catch the "new tunes". Listening to "Sully", "Cousin Al's" Blue Grass....checking out "Gilbert's Show", laughing at "Fat Grams' and of course mesmerized by the voice of DJ "Dallas". Broke this guys heart when it went off the air. It was a special time for music for this guy. Now I do a volunteer radio program on a Community Radio Station way up in West Point Ca. and I'm doing a program on "Unappreciated Music and Songs". Herb Pederson's "Hey Boys" is one of the 30 I picked. Thank you KFAT and thank you Herb!..................Coach
Oh my gosh. I was a high school kid 73-77 in San Jose, different than everyone else, avid KFAT listener. Learned about Jerry Jeff, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Emmy Lou from listening. Still have the KFAT belt buckle my dad gave me. @@GuillermoLG552
My late husband worked in a record store where Herb made an appearance when this album was released. I have a copy autographed. Such a great album, indeed!
Being a male fiddler, after Allison Krauss came to Nashville, my budding career there was over. My last band in PA played this song, and its how I learned how to sing such harmonies and the value of pedal steel guitar with fiddle. I don't think anyone outdid this.
Song reminds me of my grandpa's hardware store in southern Minnesota, where his old cronies would sit around the wood stove in the middle of the store on cold days.
Dette er sannsynligvis en av hans mest undervurderte bluegrass-innspillinger. Ikke bare opptrådte han med The Eagles, men han sang backupvokal for Linda Ronstadt. Herb er kjempebra!
When I was young and lived along the Merrimac And washed in the river when the water ran clean, Waited for the day I could buy me a Cadillac And see a lot of things that I never have seen. Hey Hey Hey boys, I think I'm gettin' old, Sittin' by the fire when the weather gets cold. I don't care, down around the farm, And another little drink won't do us any harm. Rear back, talk about your politics, Fight about religion and worry about war, I'll sit, a-spittin' in the fireplace, Pour a little cider when your throat gets sore. Hey Hey Hey boys, I think I'm gettin' old, Sittin' by the fire when the weather gets cold. I don't care, down around the farm, And another little drink won't do us any harm.

Moved from the city (Danny was Navy posted to Norfolk) To a farm in the back woods of Kentucky :) Yup bet ya sitting by the fire. Just usually sans the drink, life is a good enough high.
You might already know this , but , just in case you don't , KFAT is online at KFAT.com , I just heard them play " Hey Boys " yesterday , ............Stay Fat !
It's also a KPIG Radio original out of Freedom, Ca and this song is played often! KPIG has carried on the KFAT legend anywhere from the funny commercials to Cousin Al's bluegrass show and so on!

Leaves me speechless, unable to think. I'm back in 1976.

KFAT was the best! They played Larry Hosford, Fly by Night, Asleep at the Wheel, and Chuck Wagon and the Wheels. I sure miss it.

My all time favorite song, period.
My all time favorite singer.
I have 29 albums where he is a principal performer.
Played with a band in the 70s, best time of my life.
Pure perfection.
I have this on vinyl and it's such a great album....... it's a shame it's not available any longer.
I have it autographed by him. My late husband worked in a record store where Herb made an instore appearance. It's one of my treasures.
I had to order the CD from France. At the time it was one of three I could find on the planet.

I have the CD. It says Herb did all the vocals.
Really puts me in a different time...such a great era.
One of my favorite songs EVER!
Thanks for posting this one. A lost diamond for sure..

A really great song. Love the harmonies.
That would be Chris Hillman.
@@gyrgrls the harmonies are all Herb. The only other singers on this album are Emmylou and Linda Ronstadt. No other dude singers besides Herb.
First time hearing this, X-mas 2022..

A strong reminder I was a young man once. Nice to hear this one again. Next stop hmmmm, Guy Clark's LA Freeway.
Grew up listening to this with my Pops......
