Thanks for the comment, I agree with everything you said. The series has become so streamlined that hardcore basketball fans can't utilize all of the real-life strategy and mechanics that make the game fun. And factoring in the microtransactions, it's obvious 2K is only concerned with profit, not making a great game. I only hope they will address these issues this Fall, but I'm not holding my breath, which is another reason NBA Live needs to breakthrough and start competing.
yea actually the lighting, textures and shading are significantly worse in '18 (from '16/'17 engine) The defensive AI is better tho ;) I just really hate the simple crap that was never fixed because they didn't care (e.g. Player badge-counter shield compare the badge graphic that shows the number of badges each characters have -- > its a 16-bit red piece of crap in '18 but an excellently designed shield in '17...... In 2k18, on PC u can't play mycareer without a piggy-back program speeding the game up, because the mycareer game speed is in slow motion and the game speed slider from the main menu doesn't affect mycareer game speed for the PC version o.o smh so i had to trouble shoot and use the CheatEngine (cheat table) program just to run the game at 1.25x)
What, is that true!?! Damn, I only play on console but that's ridiculous, from the way you describe it sounds like the PC port was an afterthought they threw together at the last second, but then again that's typical from 2K at this point
It's up to you but I think for $20.00 it'd be worth it. You'd probably get some enjoyment and value for that price, if I remember the grind on 2K16 wasn't as bad as it is now.

This is the first video I've seen that gets to the core of whats wrong with these 2K releases. Typically, when other commentators complain about the game it usually just revolves around online issues or VC or the cutscenes, but this was probably the most well rounded critique I've heard. My main gripe is the gameplay in My Career, the things that occur in the game goes against everything you would know about how basketball works. Every team you play against starts off shooting a high percentage from the field, they get practically every bounce on the rim you could get for the shot to go in. Your teammates play zero defense and allow the CPU to score at will and allow multiple open looks. The weird things that would happen on offense that prevented me from scoring, my player losing the ball from just regular dribbling, teammates throwing the ball away, ignoring screens and cuts and horrendous shot selection. And am I the only who experiences the "time out" glitch where the coach randomly calls out a time out whenever I'm on a one man fastbreak or have a clear lane to the basketball or during crunch time where it stops the flow of the play? It's as if the game itself is purposely keeping me from scoring and it's definitely the most frustrating thing I've ever experienced in a 2K game. I've stopping playing games in My Career all together because it's just unplayable and thinking about skipping 2K19 as well.

This is an entertainment activity that millions enjoy and idk why the actual game developers don’t seem to care as much as you smh. Hope life is treating you well man
you hit this head on. I will get called for so many shooting fouls a game where I make absolutely NO contact with the offensive player, making it completely unfair to even have a chance of blocking ANY shot. you miss SO many layups in this game. you get the ball stripped from you when driving to the paint if you don't have at least 60% of your stamina bar filled, the game DOES NOT want you to win, you need to have a 90+ three point shot if you want to shoot somewhat realistic numbers, animations are terrible, and the game in general is just not fun to play unless you completely jack the sliders to be in your favor. I pray that 2k can at the BARE MINIMUM cut down on all these flaws to make it somewhat playable. Great video my man, you spoke for the whole community✊🏻
I use to only play games to have fun and relax, not to pretend I'm going to work. These companies have really gotten away from what made gaming enjoyable, access to all content for everyone, and able to be reached with casual play for the most part. These games will continue to fail if they push towards cost-based service that requires extensive time and work. The fact that the AI on your team can't even make simple shots is insanity, it's truly unbelievable after so many iterations of a game.
I think the biggest hindrance to the mycareer as opposed to other titles outside of the VC was the fact that the story pretty much ended once you were signed to a team. What was left were a collection of glorified advertisements for various products. 2k14-17 were not good stories, but they at least maintained the story they were trying to push throughout the time they spent pushing the narrative. Even in games with atrociously bad stories like 2k16, they at least pushed the story and then left you alone once it was done.
Love every argument but the "not everyone is black" only because being a black man and a hardcore gamer almost every game I play I'm stuck as generic white guy so for once is nice to fit in, in the gaming world
You have a good point. Every game that allows for character creation should give players the opportunity for everyone to play as a character of their choosing. I mentioned Saints Row 2 because they did this well, multiple voices for males and females. Thanks for the watch and comment, hopefully we'll continue to get games with diversity in their character creators.
I'm so late to this review, but this is the 2K year that killed my love for the game. Supposedly you're this CRAZY talent, so much so that you're asked to come tryout for an NBA team just by being seen at a random park pickup tournament. But when you get to the team of your choice.... you're like a 54 overall and absolute CHEEKS. Worthless story.
Hahaha, I can hear the absolute disgust in your voice. I'm considering just buying Live 19 this year. It can't be that bad, right? All I want is something that's fun to play yet a little complex. 2K just seem so damn greedy, they expect people to practically pay for the game twice now.
I may be going with NBA Live 19 this year. I just played the demo and while the graphics aren't anywhere near as gorgeous as those screens they released, the players are much more accurate. The Real Player Motion definitely helped with the stiffness and animations. It feels much more realistic. I like all of the daily challenges they're offering too. I just want a fun basketball game that I don't have to grind hours upon hours to max out my player. This is a basketball game. Not Skyrim.
The worst part is that 2K forces you to play every game. One thing about MLB: The Show that I enjoy is that you can play as much or as little as you want, but you are rewarded for playing more.
Just hearing this review, is therapeutic. Definitely needed to hear it from someone else. Unfortunately, we're all most likely going to get the new game, where not much will probably change, but it's at least refreshing to hear the truth out here. Respect

This should be seen by the whole world, every single thing said in this video is facts. Nothing has changed and I definitely feel I'm paying and wasting $60.00 dollars just to play the same old game. This needs to be shared with the whole 2K community!!!

Yeah that doesn't surprise me. That's part of the reason I don't play multiplayer (MyTeam, ProAm, etc.) because of the people that do what you're saying but also the people actually willing to spend real $$$ on VC to max out their players, teams, takes away the challenge for them while making it downright hard to beat them.
It’s crazy how you made this video in the early stages of 2k18 when it first came out, and the problems haven’t changed. If Live is better than 2k this year (which it look like) I’m going to cop.
Great vídeo! I share your point of view. I just brought my Xbox to play 2k18 and It was a big disappointment. The play is set to make us spend a lot of money
Watching this right before 2k19 and couldn’t agree more. As a fan of the series, I’ve even fantasized how this game could get even better (MyCareer stories), but they keep feeding us slop. I’m sick and tired of them snatching money with no enjoyment to the fans, and if they disprove me... I will be impressed
2k13 was definitely one of the last innovators in the series. 2k14’s dribbling was super nice though imo, and the contact might be a bit much, but it felt incredibly tangible and real. That’s what I feel like we’ve really lost beyond the obvious shit.
I'm going to take your critique even further: As far as gameplay, it's exactly the same as 2K14. At least visually, the animation, collision detection, and heavily scripted sequences during a game are identical. Again, four years later and you're still paying for the same game with updated rosters and a bunch of bullshit that has nothing to do with basketball.
2k17 was ok, not the best but at least its gameplay was somewhat realistic. Now, a complete different story when I bought 2k18 and started playing it. I didn't really mind the whole VC debacle, the fact you couldn't preview a new haircut and lose access to the old one. What did it was the gameplay. That goddam gameplay! Try making a lay up in the effing game, I dare you! The success ratio for a layup (even open ones) must be about 40% and it doesn't matter if you're trying with KD or McLemore, chances are you will mess it up. What kind of BS is this? I'm not going to even go into other aspects of the gameplay as they are equally as bad as the layups debacle. This video sums up EVERYTHING that's wrong with 2k18 so I won't add on any more. Great review and thanks for pointing out all the flows of this garbage release!
I hate this damn game if your tall you’ll dominate if your 6’6 and down you’ll get dominated especially at the park. It’s yooo bias too you’ll lose the ball for no reason
I agree wtf happened to 2k visual concepts and the passion they had back in the early and mid 2000’s. Come on it shows when money becomes your only focus You steadily start to see changes only to the money making areas of the game it sucks Because I’m a fan of my league but I can’t even enjoy that because I’m not excited for the same thing every year with very minimal changes
this is possibly the best user review of 2k18

It’s crazy how you made this video in the early stages of 2k18 when it first came out, and the problems haven’t changed. If Live is better than 2k this year (which it look like) I’m going to cop.
Great vídeo! I share your point of view. I just brought my Xbox to play 2k18 and It was a big disappointment. The play is set to make us spend a lot of money
Thanks for the watch! You're right it's ALL about money at this point, they don't even try to hide it.
That opening little monologue was epic. Well done dude. Lol.
THIS DUDE JUST SAID "It makes Tommy Wiseau look like Shakespeare" 😭😂😭😂 subbed 19:08
If u still alive im from the future to tell u the same lady sings the anthem for 2k20
Thanks for this video really appreciate the honesty on the review, Ima wait for you to review 2k19 before buying a copy
gotchu with the 600 subs bro you hit on everything here! great job dude 🤙🏻
Totally agree with what you said
"That makes Tommy Wiseau look like Shakespeare" 😂
Watching this right before 2k19 and couldn’t agree more. As a fan of the series, I’ve even fantasized how this game could get even better (MyCareer stories), but they keep feeding us slop. I’m sick and tired of them snatching money with no enjoyment to the fans, and if they disprove me... I will be impressed
Subscribed! Best review I've EVER seen. Been saying exactly what I've been saying for YEARS. But the 2K fanboys don't care.
Good work on speaking the truth, koodos
Appreciate it, we have to push back on 2K for the trash they're giving us.
2k13 was definitely one of the last innovators in the series.
2k14’s dribbling was super nice though imo, and the contact might be a bit much, but it felt incredibly tangible and real. That’s what I feel like we’ve really lost beyond the obvious shit.
OHHH MMYYYYY GOOODDDDD yes thank you sir this video is so satisfying I’m happy that someone finally understands the struggle
Ironically, Ben Wallace will now be the only undrafted player in the Hall of Fame.
If you could make a billion dollars and not try why would you try and then potentially mess up the formula
Unfortunately, you're right
AMEN! To what, you ask? EVERYTHING!
This need to have more views get this to 2k please the best review ever
This guys funny as hell😂But I 100% agree with this, 2k18 is a disgrace
Everything you said was on point, it completely reflected my own opinions. This is why I already preordered Nba Live 19
This was amazingly well put together.
20:36 that scene was kinda funny though.
This video is perfect, litterly every reason I'm done with 2k, and why I'm so happy NBA live is making a comeback!
those cutscenes were by far the worst ive ever seen in my entire life lmfao
I haven't played since 2K12 and I must say this could very easily be a 2K12 review.

Which brings us to the most mortal of all this game's sins
I agree wtf happened to 2k visual concepts and the passion they had back in the early and mid 2000’s. Come on it shows when money becomes your only focus You steadily start to see changes only to the money making areas of the game it sucks Because I’m a fan of my league but I can’t even enjoy that because I’m not excited for the same thing every year with very minimal changes
lmao you destroyed them my man !!! haa micropay is bs ! !!
Thanks my friend! You're right it's total bs
