  • Garden Gals and Guys, I'm shouting it from the rooftops...today I have my largest Lisianthus harvest to date here in Zone 5B!!! I'm talking an armful of blooms and I couldn't be happier! Come along with me in my cut flower garden as I harvest:
    Voyage 2 White Lisianthus
    Voyage 2 Champagne Lisianthus
    Rosanne Black Pearl Lisianthus
    Rosanne Brown Lisianthus (makes an appearance - isn't ready for harvesting yet)
    It's my third season growing these and I've finally hit my stride! The first year I started with a whopping 4 plants that made it to bloom, last year I probably had around 30 - ish, and this year I've got nearly 100 or so! When starting Lisianthus from seed this year, I believe soil blocking made the difference for me. This was the first year I used soil blocks and the difference in my germination rate was staggering! I simply transplanted the soil blocks up into larger cell trays after a month or two and they took off better than ever for me. I'll use the same method of seed starting for them next year as well!
    It's a labor of love with Lisianthus, but if you're up for a challenge and enjoy delayed gratification (it takes 6 months to see a bloom from the time you plant the seed) then definitely get your hands on Lisianthus seed and give it a go! My personal favorite place to find Lisianthus seed is from Johnny's Select Seeds, which also has amazing growing information available.

    Disaster does strike at one point in this video, but we get through it. My beloved Lisianthus blooms suffer some casualties, but it ends up segwaying us into getting the ever-beautiful armful of blooms photo and thumbnail, which is a first for me, so I'll take it!
    If you enjoyed this video or found it helpful, please subscribe to my channel and "like" this video! Comment below and let me know how your Lisianthus are coming along and if you've been able to harvest anything yet from your cut flower gardens!
    Thanks for watching! Happy Planting!

    I'm a newbie gardener. I asked a local florist what their favorite cut flower was......and it was lisianthes (which I wasn't familiar with). Well, after seeing yours, I know why they love lisianthes. Great video. Funny, and real. The flower upset. Glad they survived and still looked beautiful!

    Oh my lord, those are so gorgeous. I really went crazy this year with trying so many different cut flowers. Went a bit crazy with over 600 sweet peas just for starters. 😂 This is one that is a must for me but of course Johnny's was out of all the seeds I wanted with the Lisianthus so I'm going to start buying seeds NOW. Thats 6 months and ALOT of patience. I'm not quite sure if I'm ready. This video has made me think, yes absolutely.😂 I totally need more raised beds. I'm putting them out on my side yard next year. It's nuts that I'm already excited for next spring. Plus, I've decided I'm going to start things even earlier and push the limits. 🤗

I'm telling you now that I'll be your Lisianthus cheerleader from afar - go for it! It may take a couple years to have great results with them, so no better time to start than the present! I'm glad my video is egging you on...do it! I pushed the limits this year and it's worked out great. And I've loved my raised beds ever since we put them in. They work amazingly well! Cheers and good luck!

      This is my third year flower farming and second year growing lisianthus and I’m so excited to see how well they’re doing ! Totally understand the panic when the bucket fell over !
      I’ve been using the hortanova netting for Lisi, zinnias, snaps, cosmos and several other crops, it’s definitely worth the hassle. I just used dollar store green tomato stakes which was a lot cheaper than t-posts and easier to get into the ground (raised beds).
      Happy gardening 😊

    Congratulations on your lisianthus success! You should be proud because we start them in cold and snowy January. We spend a lot of time with them until we get them outside in the ground. I noticed a big problem this year with the Lisianthus seeds not all being the correct variety. I also had 2 blue similar to you in my Roseanne Black Pearl lisianthus. My Roseanne Brown had 4 peach mixed in. My Clear Green had a white. My Ophira was supposed to be a peach/soft pink but all of them are a soft, soft yellow. However, I am enjoying them all. The only varieties that were 100% correct were the Allemande White, Voyage 2 Champagne and First Love lisianthus. The difficulty now is deciding which ones to grow and how many next year. Enjoy your beautiful lisianthus!

    • @TinysGarden
      @TinysGarden  Год назад

      Thank you, Sue! That's for sure...a lot of "coddling" if you will haha! Interesting that you've had some other varieties mixed in this year. I've not even heard of the peach! I'm also so intrigued by this Ophira variety...I've gone down the Google search hole and haven't found much about it! First Love is definitely on my list for next year...preparation for next year is underway! Thanks for all your encouragement and support, Sue!

    They are SO beautiful! I want to try Lisianthus next year. Any recommendations for a first time lizzie grower? They seem daunting!

    • @TinysGarden
      @TinysGarden  Год назад

      Hello! Thank you! They're the prettiest...I'm tellin' you! My recommendation is to just start, which sounds like a lazy recommendation, but I promise that's what I did and now in the third year, I seemed to have figured it out! I DEFINITELY recommend starting them in soil blocks because that seems to be the biggest difference from the previous years (started in cell trays) vs. this year. I had MUCH better germination right off the bat, so I had much more to work with. Be patient with them because they take for-ev-er, but to me that adds to how gratifying they are when they bloom! As far as specific varieties I think Voyage 2 White and Voyage 2 Champagne are stunning...you can get really creative with some varieties like Picotee varieties, but I prefer the classic Voyage varieties (ruffly petals). Also, buy 2-3 seed packs if your budget allows because you'll likely lose several in the beginning...I've killed SO many, but even if you get a few you'll be hooked and get better and better! OR you'll be a rock star and master them in your first year in which case, you'll need to tell me your secrets! :) All that to say, just start! I hope this novel is helpful to you!
