  • Garden Gals and Guys, I think this is one of my favorite videos I've ever made even though there were some technical difficulties (shows we are human right!?)! Mostly because my love affair with Lisianthus runs deep. She's a challenge to grow and plays hard to get, but that's part of why I love her so dearly. Here's my off the cuff pitch to you on why YOU should grow Lisianthus (AND why you certainly shouldn't be afraid to try growing her!)!
    If you enjoyed this video, please hit the like button (it really helps my channel)! If you haven't yet, subscribe to my channel to follow along with all things garden! I'd love to have you here. Remember to comment below and share your experience with growing Lisianthus!
    Thanks for watching! Happy Planting!

    Beautiful beautiful beautiful! Steph! I can’t believe you are managing babies and a stunning garden at the same time! The Lizzie’s look amazing! I haven’t tried them because of all the time they take, but I may give them a shot in January! Hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying the last bits of summer!

    This is my first year growing a cutting garden. I have 25 different varieties of annuals. The only ones I did not start myself from seed are the Lisianthus, and I am NOT ashamed!! I’ve heard so many stories about how hard they are to grow that I decided right away I was going to buy them at the nursery when I spotted them. I bought packs of three in about five different colors and never regretted that less than $10 purchase. My favorites are the Voyage 2 green. They are stunning in mixed bouquets. I make anywhere from 4-10 bouquets every week and give them away to friends, neighbors, my beautician, birthday girls, sick or sad people I hear about, my church…. The list is never empty and it brings them, and me, such joy. Your yellow dahlia is going on my want list for next year. She’s real beauty, thanks for sharing.

      You're too kind...believe me, I had a lot of help this year from my hubby making sure my seedlings were watered and he hustled to help me get them all in the ground before the girls came. We've got irrigation in the raised beds, so I knew if I just managed to get all the seedlings planted and tubers in the ground before I delivered the twins, the garden would mostly take care of itself after that! SUPER happy we got all that done beforehand. But believe me, my window boxes are looking bleak, I've got thistles everywhere, and my patio is a complete weedy mess. Let's keep it real here! :) Plus I've got a lot of hands helping with the twins. But I'm giving myself grace on all the parts of my property that aren't tidy because I care most about my cutting garden!

    I live 2 hours south of you and love your videos! My goal for next year is to grow a “successful “ cut flower garden. But what am I going to do with the flowers? One suggestion was to take them to a nursing home for a flower arranging project. What do you do with all of your flowers, especially the ones that need to be harvested weekly?

    • @TinysGarden
      @TinysGarden  28 дней назад +1

      Hi Susan! So glad you’re loving my vids…it’s great to have you here. I NEVER have an issue with too many flowers…I usually have at least a couple in my house, often give some to my mother-in-law who lives nearby, have given away to neighbors, and send some with my husband to his work or some of his friends (yes, some of his poker buddies love flowers!). Giving to a nursing home is a great idea…even if they’re just quickly made bouquets to sit around the facility. Some people set up a stand at the end of their driveway as a side hustle and some do it to give away. And for the ones that I didn’t get around to harvesting, I give myself grace because I know they probably fed some pollinators and added beauty to my garden, so they’re never wasted! PS. It WILL be successful as long as you enjoy it ☺️ Good luck, Susan!

    Thank you for your videos! I grow Lisianthus both in my greenhouse and in my garden to see which grows better, but here in Sweden I have to start sowing them around the 25th of December for them to bloom before the cold sets in. I would love to be able to grow more and different strains of Lisianthus, but it is hard to find sellers that stock the seeds for a lot of the more uncommon ones.

      Yes, yes, I’m still so sorry that happened 😫 However, let’s hear it for the survivors! 👏I’m so excited for you! Some buds will bloom, yes. They have opened up for me in some capacity because their vase life is so long. If I remember right you may get one more flush, but they aren’t as cut and come again as sweet peas or zinnias. Glad you enjoyed! 😃

    Do your small lisianthus buds droop in the vase after a few days or do they open? Mine all droop.
    I’ve had a great lisianthus year! I grew 52 plants from seed and only two rosetted. The ones still left in the bed are blooming their heads off. They are so beautiful!
