  • A solar eclipse calendar till 2027 in SpaceEngine 0.9.9.0 Steam Edition Beta. SpaceEngine is free software. For more information check out the official website spaceengine.org/. In this video I've left out the frequent partial and some of the annular eclipses to somewhat limit the length of the video. To give a short description of the 2 types of solar eclipse in this video. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon goes in front of the sun at such a point in its (elliptical) orbit around earth that the moon fully covers the sun. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon goes in front of the sun at a point in its orbit around the earth where it does not entirely cover the full disk of the sun. In this event the moon will be in the middle of the sun’s disk, with a ring of sunlight around it. Total eclipses are of course more interesting because you can actually see the corona of the sun with the naked eye at totality, nonetheless annular eclipses can provide some nice images still.

    One small error slipped through. The lunar eclipse in the end of the video is actually not in South America, but in Australia and most of East Asia.

      I'm part of the closed steam test version. No keys available anyway, it's only a small group of people.

      Why didn't the moon turn red?

    • @Alienasa1
      @Alienasa1  4 года назад

      @@maribelmachica3952 I think it probably did but I was capturing on manual exposure. The "blood moon" is much fainter than the other things in the scene so I would either need to overexpose blowing out the earth, or I would need to use HDR lighting.

    Thanks so much for this video, the Eclipses are really well simulated in Space Engine for the next exciting eclipse years. ^~^
    Very well made, thanks ( also for the bonus content ).

    My best luck is in 2017 because in 2024 I'm having a 80% total eclipse/partial eclipse

    Gordon from Solar Eclipse Timer here. These are beautiful for sure! But looking at the 2024 total solar eclipse specifically, I don't see that the animation has the ability to speed up the velocity of the umbra at start and the end of the path. It may be there, but it's subtle, and I don't see it. But overall, still very, very nice.

    2:26 I am going to see that one, though where I am viewing it, it will be partial.

    Person from 2023 here. There are 26 days left for the October 14th 2023 solar eclipse, and I must say I'm looking forward to it! It will only be partial where I'm from though.
    I'm also really excited for the April 2024 solar eclipse, I saw the news from some months before the great 2017 eclipse predicting the 2024 solar eclipse, and since then i've been looking forward to it.
    Absolutely in awe how these programs can accurately predict eclipses and other astronomical events!
    P.S., I also got to see the 2017 solar eclipse, but it was only a tiny slice of the sun being covered.

      0.9.9.0 Steam Edition Beta :) Edit: This is also the first version that accurately simulates the correct orbit at the correct time, hence why this video was possible.

    Can Space Engine show all planetary positions for a specific date, ex: 15 March, 2156?

    • @Alienasa1
      @Alienasa1  6 лет назад +3

      Well, I think currently only the 0.990 test version can do that accurately. The 0.980 live version has an outdated model sadly. So you can do that once the 0.990 version or later hits live.

    A total solar eclipse will occur on December 14, 2020. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon’s apparent diameter is larger than the Sun’s, blocking all direct sunlight, turning day into darkness. Totality occurs in a narrow path across Earth’s surface, with the partial solar eclipse visible over a surrounding region thousands of kilometers wide.
    On December 4, 2021, another total solar eclipse occurs, BUT is visible in Antarctica.

    Is this real or just a... Cartoon prediction?

    • @Alienasa1
      @Alienasa1  7 лет назад +1

      This is not a prediction but basically a forecast. The version of SpaceEngine that I'm using has time accurate orbital mechanics of the earth and moon, so by setting the time in SpaceEngine I can basically simulate to some degree of accuracy the eclipses that will happen years from now. Look in the description for my source of the eclipse times in the future.
