if you're doing a design too, it's also easier to match you non-dominant hand if you start with that one, instead of doing the good one first and then struggling to match the design on the other hand. oh, and if it's really messy and you're still learning, you can get someone else to put liquid latex or protective peel around the edges of your off hand, that way the cleanup is easier

fun fact, there is a fourth catagory for handedness - mixed-handed! it's sorta like ambidextrous, but you can do certain things well with one hand (write with your right hand, etc) and other things well with the other hand. So which hand is your dominant hand depends on the activity. My brother is mixed-handed :)
This happened to me kind of by accident or because of trauma. (I'll figure it out in therapy) I was initially left-handed, but my teachers insisted I write with my right hand. I had no other choice at school. So now I write pretty horribly with my right hand and I do everything else with my left. I didn't notice until a friend pointed it out. Apparently right-handed people just don't brush their teeth with their left hand🤔
Yes! I grew up without a word for what I was, so I just say right-handed because I write only with my right hand and the left feels unnatural, which seem to be the determining factor for classification. But I naturally did a lot of things with my left hand, favored my left in all sports, and other than writing, I unconsciously switch which hand or side I'm using mid task or activity if it's convenient. I didn't even notice until it was pointed out to me in elementary school. Regardless, I've always said I'm right handed (sometimes with a shrug and quick explanation of my weird switchiness in some things)

0:35 She said your "other hand" is your non-dominant hand. But wouldn't it be your dominant hand that is the hardest to paint since you are using your non- dominant hand to paint your dominant hand? So for example I am right handed. I paint best with my right hand so my left hand's nails always look the best. That makes my right hand (dominant hand) my "other hand" i.e. the crappy looking one.
i think its because she changed the sentence mid-sentence, and also phrased it weird. i thought she said the opposite hand as synonimous for non-dominant, and then went on to explain that her "other hand" is the one she paints with non-dominant, i.e. her other hand is the dominant hand 😂 she took a detour while explaining it though

Thank you so much for these tips! Every time I paint my non-dominant hand it comes out better and better! Looking forward to using some of these techniques to improve my nail painting skills 💅😊
I have said this in the other videos of your beginner painting class but THANK YOU!!!!! I am new the the painting game and I am excited to get my nails looking amazing. I'm a preschool teachers aid and the kids love seeing my nails decorated.
I've been doing my own nails for over forty years and I honestly can't tell you how I do my non dominant hand! Only thing I do know is i aways start with my non dominant hand and always work from my pinky to thumb! As years go by you do master doing it! It can also help if you concentrate on your breathing too! Have fun❣️💅🏼
I'm 53. I've never heard of anyone doing ot like this. I have always been the hover and tremble routine and accepting the same outcome. That's the thing that has put me off painting my nails. This sounds like a great tip. The polishes look fab!
this is actually very helpful for someone with an essential tremor, both of my hands shake like crazy 24/7 so nails have always been... abnormally difficult for me
Your editor correcting your pronunciation of eczema! 😭 (And before I get a million comments saying Cristine edits her own videos she has said more than once that she hired an editor for her stream highlights videos)
I paint my nails by myself for more than 14 years. At first my right hand was always a disaster, but after a while the skill grown on me. I can paint both hands perfectly, practice is everything!
Thanks for the tips- BTW I have the same problem with my hands- and it is SUPER frustrating when ppl try and help you by saying "oh have you tried moisturiser, or why are your hands so wrinkled" it's nice to know that there are fellow humans with this condition! At least we have hands- that's how I get through it
i do a lot of random techniques like these, i def do a mix of pulling my hand away/ moving the hand that’s holding the brush. i always just do it out of habit. i never knew people didn’t know to do that.
It is a work in progress! She said once that she was basically testing different versions of it, so it sounds like it may be available sooner or later :D
I've somehow become better at painting with my left (nondominant) hand than the right. I think it's because having to go slow and be careful gave me the extra practice. 🤷♀️🤣
Looking forward to future nail classes! It would be fun to learn about working with powders. (And as a stamping fanatic, I'm still hoping you'll warm up to stamping someday, haha.)
How I have always painted my right hand nails is I hold the brush still then I move my hand in a way that basically the right hand is controlling where the nail polish goes. So with my left hand I hold the brush and move my right hand under it in the way it needs to be done so it comes out nice and neat …. It’s worked for me for the last 20 years lol. Everyone has their own method to getting it done , love your videos 💕
I've had psoriasis since middle school and I've been fighting the fatigue that comes along with it for the past few years. It's been getting horrible lately 😭 psoriasis and ezcema suck
Despite being ambidextrous this is very helpful. I have tendinitis that makes me wrists and thumbs weak every so often and this is really good for stuff like that.
This is brilliant Cristine! My hands tend to shake to an almost comical extent whenever I try to do something that requires fine motor control, so this will be a great help. Thank-you very much!
Be careful on how long you wait between the base and color. I was actually suprised cristine didn't know this. But you dont want the base coat to fully cure before adding you color. Base coats are made to be tack-dry to bond properly with the polish. It is the same idea of why you dont add color on top of a top coat. You want it bond together and become one solid layer. Otherwise it will flake off layer by layer. So if you ever have you polish pull off in one layer, but there is still polish underneath, this is why. It do not properly bond to the layer below it. You also dont want to prep you nails in advanced before doing the manicure. Try to do it within 5 min. Otherwise you base coat wont stick to the nail plate. Did this once and nothing stayed.
I love the Protective Peel! I occasionally end up chewing off my nails to nail bed (I need to not lapse on my nail painting or I get too tempted and if life gets too stressful I wake up with inattentively chewed off nails again) and then it helps restart the painting process by covering the skin in front of the nail. I know how to not paint the two sides and the base of the nail with polish, but I can't not paint skin that would normally be covered by nail when my nails are long. Great product!
That's how I started out painting my dominant hand. I've gotten good enough that I can now paint it the usual way, but moving the nail under the brush is a great way to do it if you're not that steady with your non-dominant hand or just not used to using it.
OK last comment-I watched a video by Nailcou and she used little clips to pull the skin away from each side to easier paint on each side without touching the edge😀 😍
Thank you!!! I usually put my left hand down on its side. Hold the brush and make slight adjustments. I have bad dexterity so I put the right nail touching the still brush and drag my arm back along counter. I simply adjust the angles.
I trained myself by laying down a 4 inch strip of double-sided foam tape on the table, to keep the side of my non-dominant hand in proper position. Amazing how well it works~ & I still do it once in a while, especially if it's been some time since last manicure. As for moving & turning the dominant hand that I'm painting, absolutely yes! I've been doing that since I was 12 & first started painting my nails. =) Excellent tips & tutelage miss! These days, I've been playing around w/nail strips/wraps because it's something different, & I'm someone who really likes my manicure to last a long time. I don't do wild & crazy colors, just simply nudes/shimmer/sparkle, so it's more utilitarian for me now I suppose.
The eczema tidbit - I feel so seen! Recently got it on my hands and it's painful and so irritating that lotions don't really help! Plus I work in a hospital so I'm using hand sanitizer like a mad woman which dries them out, and if it's actively flaring and I have broken skin dear lord it burns.
I know right! It's just about impossible to find anything that moisturizes without burning or even causing bleeding. And depending on where the eczema is I've had people stare like it was contagious or gross..If you're in the US you could try out Green Goo (I don't know if they are anywhere else or how much shipping would be) They have a few different products but I randomly ran into their dry skin balm in the store when I had a hooooorrrriibbbllleee eczema rash on my hands from dish soap. The day I found it I had used my coworkers lotion to try and relieve the irritation and it made me burn and I had little cracks that bled. The dry skin balm was seriously a life saver. The patch took a month or so to finally go away completely but literally by the first day it was so much better. It is kind of oily though so it's best to use a small amount or make sure you rub it in well. I'm sorry if you're not able to get it I'm not familiar with any alternatives since it just happened to be the first thing for eczema I've tried.
lil tip: moisturizers without fragrance tend to not irritate broken skin as much. also if you find a (good) lip balm i find they are actually made suitable for broken skin and they tend to be actually soothing and repairing. i use lipbalms anywhere on my body that needs some moisture and repairing. (theres a brand blistex here but it may have a different name elsewhere.) i dont have eczema but i have some skin picking problems paired with insanely sensitive skin so i always have to find what works best on cut skin 😭
Try my bliss kiss lotion stick or little seed farms hand balm. My hubby has really bad eczema. He says little seed farms hand balm really works for him.
I apply vaseline and wear nitrile powderfree gloves and go to sleep w that. Or keep it on for hours at work. And sanitise the glove itself so my hand is safe and hydrated underneath. It either helps out in 1 day or 2 or 3 days.
I absolutely love the tips for doing the other hand! I paint my nails (both hands) like a toddler with tremors. 🤦♀️ I have liquid latex and even that doesn't always help because I'm very unsteady when painting THAT on too. I don't know how else to describe this, but the skin on the sides of your fingers appears to be low. Mine comes up high and it makes painting my nails quite difficult. I have to kinda hold the skin down or pull it back to get access to the rest of my nail. Does anyone else deal with this? Does anyone have tips or tricks for this? Thanks for reading. 🥰
Being a left hander in a right hander world, I've learned to do some tasks with both hands. I've gotten really good at doing both hands and will use either or for the "money shot".

It look amazeballs tho!!!! You keep being YOU Girl as you are not JUST brilliant at what you do as well as teaching minions such as my dribbling fool self, but you are hilarious and make this lurnin thing fun! Great job and that you for sharing your extensive grey matter with us, your 🧠 is priceless! (PS: as someone who DOES wear that white coat as a career….ya DO KNOW that a) Meredith is NOT a REAL PERSON…correct? And b) She’s not a REAL DOCTOR either? Right? (Please agree with me as no one WANTS a psych evaluation over the holidays as much as most of my family receives warning letters outlining how the holidays CAN go or WILL go but it is completely their choice!😁👍🏻 PS: YOU, my beautiful woman, only said ‘eh’ ONCE! The pride I have for you!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ PPS: Ambidextrous just to raise your ambi count.. PSS: eczema …. Hon, JUST had one of THE worst cases I’ve seen in a long time if not EVER….. I felt terrible for this lovely gentleman and as you know, it is a “time” vs “instant” heal for the most part BUT….as much as it’s impolite to nudge through an ER curtain and open with “ I couldn’t help but overhear…” when you’re ALSO A PATIENT…… a lovely and kind elderly woman said her mother had horrific eczema flare ups and “the ONLY ‘instant’ relief she ever was able to get was a concoction of ACV.” And this woman SWORE that it would help this poor man in minutes if we would just try….as there are creams, salves, pills and powders but again…time as well as predisposed conditions and contraindications with other medications had us in a corner and as I said….a very very bad flare up if ever I’ve seen one…so it did not take me long to bend to her will if he was game, which he was and ACV…well, depending on his present ph levels, this could only go one of two ways….. so here’s the info and this is by no means MY info or recommendation but it was darn incredible so I’ll give credit where credit is due!!!! So, 1C of Warm (20-22 Celsius) H20 and yes, and mix in a Tblsp of ACV AND YES, organic if possible as she told me, Then (as she said soak old rags and place over inflamed areas) crazy me, I chose sterile Tefla Pads, 4x4” were as big as we had and I soaked them in the bowl with ACV AND H20 and while her instructions were to leave him alone for 2-3 hours and he’ll be right as rain, bless her heart, I chose to have a LPN CONTINUE TO soak new Telfa pads and keep the liquid warm as well as him with warm blankets as the areas of concern were from the tips of his fingers and bilaterally up his arms to the back of his neck. This poor poor gentleman was putting on a brave face but after this many years of looking into eyes, you learn to spot pain a mile away. Both the imagined and the actual….HE was in PAIN or as we would say 8/10 which is high. Well, after my LPN diligently, gently and with precision Continued this for almost 4 hours, we removed and did a sterile rinse and I had been monitoring his ph level from admission to post sterile saline rinse which was approx 5.5 and once he was gently dried off and then a 50/50 mix of CeraVe ointment and body moisturizer placed on the affected area with a thin sterile non stick surgical drape to protect his clothes from not only the ointment on his skin but also IF by ANY CHANCE he had ANY S. aureus on his clothing I’d rather keep him as clean as possible until he could get home into FRESHLY CLEAN PJs And then F/U with his GP the following week. Well, not only did his GP phone and ask me what or whom I sacrificed from my staff to Sauron to “CURE” -yes-his words-! His LONG SUFFERING eczema patient as he had tried EVERYTHING BUT contacting Sauron himself, however was not against throwing his ex in the mix if it would help this lovely gentleman…LOL-medical people have very dark & twisted senses of humor….so I explained the story and this lovely man has NEVER been so happy, pain free and as he quoted his patient “felt soooo FREE and able to do ANYTHING (or as MUCH AS HE COULD AT HIS AGE) In his life!”!!! Sooooo beautiful, there’s a thought and a share for you as “IN the box” thinking when it comes to medicine and expensive or experimental drugs are most definitely NOT NOT NOT ALWAYS THE ANSWER and we MUST learn from our own history that “Grandmother did indeed know best!” Many many of the times….this was one MORE of those times and hey girl, YOU have nada to lose except the cost of 2-3 boxes of 4x4 Tefla pads and some Organic ACV (BTW: we ONLY were able to find UNfiltered which I personally would not have preferred had I any choice and I did indeed ‘filter’ it through 2 Telfa pads….just FYI🤷🏼♀️…. Something in my ‘gut’ said ok to ACV ORGANIC and even the ‘unfiltered’ part but the unfiltered part was a NO from my gut which I follow a LOT and it’s saved lives when a book or The Chief has said otherwise and I’ve fought for my ‘gut’ & WON soooo?????? Note to self…follow your gut/instinct/angel/G-d or whatever good voice in your sober and non drug “sponsored” intuition tells you because it’s there for a reason!!!! Now darling, YOU KEEP ON BEING YOUR AWESOME SELF but heck, if ur so inclined and u DO give it a shot with that lovely Lady who ‘couldn’t help but overhear…’ her recommendation…please DO let me know how you make out. And just an FYI as I said he was elderly but he was very clear as was his GP when he followed up with me, that he’d had ‘this’ since he was 4 or 5 as I recall. Approx 6 DECADES of this….. So if it does help at all, then G-d Bless that woman with the hearing of the CIA…. Regardless, thank you for being you and sharing your amazing gift and talent with us! You are awesome and I personally am grateful for you❤ Don’t ever change!❤❤❤ I’ll be back to follow more and learn more. I find doing my own nails quite cathartic and while I’m no “Meredith Grey”🙄….it certainly keeps the “ambi” brain working! Huge hug and as I said, I personally am grateful for you. You are a rare type of human to share so much wisdom so willingly and THAT is a blessing for us! (NO more ‘eh’s!!! I get enough crap for being 🇨🇦 LOL!). Huge virtual hug and wishing you & yours all of the happiness and peace and millions of dollars that you require to continue to give as you do to others so as to live a beautiful life well deserved❤!

I have said this in the other videos of your beginner painting class but THANK YOU!!!!! I am new the the painting game and I am excited to get my nails looking amazing. I'm a preschool teachers aid and the kids love seeing my nails decorated.
Great tips. Well explained and with obvious enjoyment. What amazing natural nails you have 💅
I've been doing my own nails for over forty years and I honestly can't tell you how I do my non dominant hand! Only thing I do know is i aways start with my non dominant hand and always work from my pinky to thumb! As years go by you do master doing it! It can also help if you concentrate on your breathing too! Have fun❣️💅🏼
I’ve been painting my nails for like 30 years and I never knew about the drag technique! I can’t wait to give it a try!
I love all the different green polishes. It's so hard to find a good green nail polish. They never have any greens at the nail salon.
I'm 53. I've never heard of anyone doing ot like this. I have always been the hover and tremble routine and accepting the same outcome. That's the thing that has put me off painting my nails.
This sounds like a great tip. The polishes look fab!
this is actually very helpful for someone with an essential tremor, both of my hands shake like crazy 24/7 so nails have always been... abnormally difficult for me
I also have essential tremor and it’s so annoying.
Your editor correcting your pronunciation of eczema! 😭
(And before I get a million comments saying Cristine edits her own videos she has said more than once that she hired an editor for her stream highlights videos)
Except I asked my doctor and he said both are correct so depending on where you live…I say it the same way she said it 😊
I paint my nails by myself for more than 14 years. At first my right hand was always a disaster, but after a while the skill grown on me. I can paint both hands perfectly, practice is everything!
LOL why am I watching this? I only have one hand.
Love that Amanda pointed out how to actually pronounce eczema😂
I am in shock that I just got referred to by name in the comment section😍❤️❤️
LMAO I cracked up at that 😂
@@holo.enthusiast I stalked your Instagram just so I could point this out😂♥️
Everytime she says it I think of Noxema. 😂
😮 I thought she was pronouncing it incorrectly!
Well, I'm glad I now know 😅
I've been struggling with myself if I should order her products for years. Today I just did it and I think I won't regret it.
Thanks for the tips- BTW I have the same problem with my hands- and it is SUPER frustrating when ppl try and help you by saying "oh have you tried moisturiser, or why are your hands so wrinkled" it's nice to know that there are fellow humans with this condition! At least we have hands- that's how I get through it
Although I already seen this live I watch highlights over again because the edits are just too dang funny!
Your glossy topcoat is the absolute best because it NEVER SHRINKS!!!!!! Thank you 🙏
i do a lot of random techniques like these, i def do a mix of pulling my hand away/ moving the hand that’s holding the brush. i always just do it out of habit. i never knew people didn’t know to do that.
Ok, I don’t have time to watch a lot of the streams so I probably missed something but… WHEN IS THAT MAT BEING RELEASED FOR SALE ? 🤩
I believe she had it custom made for her and it won't be.
It is a work in progress! She said once that she was basically testing different versions of it, so it sounds like it may be available sooner or later :D
Yay! Thanks for teaching us! I'm ambidextrous, but I want to show others this technique. This reminds me of your old videos... kinda nostalgic!
I've learned so much watching you over the years lol. Thank you for what you do for us!
You made that look so so easy. That is the best non-dominant hand painting I've ever seen! Your skills are amazing 🤩
Thank you for the live shorts! I watch the lives to fall asleep then come back to these videos to see what I missed
Thank you for the pulling the nail tip! Genius
Love these stream videos! I can’t catch the streams live and I love watching highlights when I can fit it in. So fun!
I've had psoriasis since middle school and I've been fighting the fatigue that comes along with it for the past few years. It's been getting horrible lately 😭 psoriasis and ezcema suck
Literally how I paint my nails. Blows peoples minds its kind of great
Adding a quick dry top coat and using a clean up brush majorly changed my nail game.
I absolutely loved these tips to paint nails with a non dominant hand. I will immediately try this out. Thanks Cristine.
I watched this while painting my non-dominant hand with Duct Tape Grey and Everything Taco. It was very helpful!! 💕
I love everything taco soooo much 🌮
Proud left handed blue eyes ginger!!! So magical unicorn!!! 🦄
Gorgeous hands and nails
Green! My favorite color EVER! 💚
As a green queen, I love this mani.
“It’s not likely someone’s gonna do that” me who’s literally bout to paint my nails finally after I painted the “base” earlier
I Love the Greens!! Awesome!!
Ooooh, loving the Julien merch! ✨❤️
Wow how did the algorithm not pop you up before? Subscribed!
Green queen here, thank you! 😻 my fave colour
OK last comment-I watched a video by Nailcou and she used little clips to pull the skin away from each side to easier paint on each side without touching the edge😀 😍
Oooooh that is genius!
Such a gorgeous result! Love your green mani so much💚💚💚💚💚
I’d like to see your cuticle routine !
Excited to try this rowing in the moment. My sport practice went well thus far. Thanks Simply!
Love all the references. Most entertaining nail vid I've seen
I've been doing my own nails for well over 4 decades and can honestly say I have never seen the "moving" finger technique - I will try for sure❤
This was so satisfying! Thank you so much💖💖💖
Love the tips and the Julien merch!
Thank you!!! I usually put my left hand down on its side. Hold the brush and make slight adjustments. I have bad dexterity so I put the right nail touching the still brush and drag my arm back along counter. I simply adjust the angles.
Claw game on point showing those finished nails🤣
Clawglam!
Thank you for this. So much inspiration and great techniques. Just I when thought there was nothing new to learn!
Green is my absolute favorite color and I want all of these!
How have i never seen these tips before? Thank you! My nails thank you too.
Wowwww! I can’t believe I’ve never thought of moving the finger instead of the brush 🤩 I just grabbed some polish and tested it out and it’s so clean
I just LOVE all the finishes and shades in this mani.
Great tips ! I tried it for my other hand and it worked great !
Excellent tips & tutelage miss!
(theres a brand blistex here but it may have a different name elsewhere.)
i dont have eczema but i have some skin picking problems paired with insanely sensitive skin so i always have to find what works best on cut skin 😭
I cut it off w nailclipper. Russian dry manicure vids on RUclips even show how to cut the under-nailbed.
8:25 i LOVE Mint Money! it's one of my favorite Holo Taco colors :)
This tutorial helped so much. Now I just need to practice often. Ty
Being a left hander in a right hander world, I've learned to do some tasks with both hands. I've gotten really good at doing both hands and will use either or for the "money shot".
Omgosh I love your classes!! These greens are soo pretty! new sub...😊
Now I need a Holo Taco mat for my nail station 😫
Great tips thank you!
I love those greens!
YOU are a NAIL GODDESS M’Lady❤!
I think your classes will (or already are as I’m new!) be the “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!” Nail Goddess Instructor Extraordinaire!!!!❤❤❤
Brilliant “tips”… yeah yeah ya heard em all a jillion times! Puns are fun!
Nailed it!😂
Ok, gotta go back, re-watch to catch name of the rubber trim peel off stuff as THAT was the nicest consistency one I’ve ever seen but trying is when you become a diehard loyal supporter or ya walk/run!
Right?
(Please agree with me as no one WANTS a psych evaluation over the holidays as much as most of my family receives warning letters outlining how the holidays CAN go or WILL go but it is completely their choice!😁👍🏻
PS: YOU, my beautiful woman, only said ‘eh’ ONCE! The pride I have for you!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
PPS: Ambidextrous just to raise your ambi count..
You are awesome and I personally am grateful for you❤
Don’t ever change!❤❤❤
I’ll be back to follow more and learn more.
I love being a green queen💚
Wow cool!! Beautiful job!! I will try it!!
*FEEDBACK* lol all caps just to trigger... seriously I loved this even though I missed the livestream (can't watch, busy life and many Netflix to catch up on), ? was there a convo about the mugs there that you diligently edited out to preserve our intense focus on the EXCELLENT job you did (and yes, I'm green-biased too) ...seriously though, absolutely beautiful job 💚💅
Holo, I'd like to ask if different base coats mess with the colourful polish. AKA if there are some differences in drying time, longevity, etc. Since I know how much You like to compare stuff (e.g. Your whole channel), It would be very nice to see you make this into a video. Pretty please? 😍
omg the eczema moment. shout out to the editor! that was funny
Thank you so muchhhhhh!!
Lol I recently started moving my right hand around when I use my left (non dominant) to paint. It helps so much.
