"red nails remind men of their moms"
Sigmund Freud wins again
WE CANT KEEP LETTING HIM GETTING AWAY WITH THIS
I'd be very surprised to hear that Freud ever weighed in on the subject of nail polish, tbh.
NO FREUD!!
@@dontmindme7358 every time I read about someone getting away with something, I think of Hasan lol
every time i see someone bring up freud i feel like ppl are just trying to find random theories to prove their own beliefs lol like there were so many different philosophers u could literally support any belief with one of their created theories
When I wear a shimmer with a nude it's just okay but when a celebrity does it it's a 'trend', wow! ✨
its literally what my grandma always used to wear, never wouldve guessed it would be a *fresh* _trend_
@@lrizzard My mom used to do these kind of nails for years too!
Ikr 😅
Wtf are these replies?!-
It's spam. Just report it.
"Nooooo society, nooooooo!" Best Simply quote so far this year.
When going to the comment section and the video matches up with the top comment 👩🏾🍳💋
i was reading the comments before the video started and i thought she would be saying this in response to a nail trend that looked ugly or smth, but no this quote was entirely warranted, tbh anything involving freud tends to give me the ick fhjdskhds
The way i ws reading this exactly while she was saying it haha
😂 I read your comment as she was saying this. Too funny!
I love how there are still "because men like it" points being made when most won't notice or care. Red is their "favorite" color only because it's flashy enough for them to notice you're wearing something different today, and is still a conservative makeup color compared to blue, yellow, green, idk.
ooooh makes sense!
My grandma has been wearing the “glazed donut” and “lipgloss” styles for 80 years lol. Not new at all lol
definitely what makes me think of moms and grandma's more than red lol. when I was a kid my mom's whole polish collection was neutrals and shimmers like that
10 years ago, I wore the "Hailey Bieber" nail polish. I got it on sale and it was the only nail polish 13yo me could afford and my classmates laughed at me. Crazy how trends change so drastically
Yea same, in my mind that pearly white or beige is just very firmly a "grandmother" color to me because my grandmother wears it all the time every day and even gets them professionally redone every few weeks
I got my nails done last week and saw a “chrome” binder with colors and decided to go with the cool chrome look and feel young and cool. Boy was I humbled afterwards. When she finished doing my nails, I showed everyone how pretty the chrome effect looked over the pink polish. I get in my car to send a nail selfie to my boyfriend because I’m just fascinated by the color. After admiring them for a few more seconds, I realized I was wearing the same exact Revlon nail polish that my grandma has been using since I was a kid. Yup, my 91 year old grandma and I wear the same color polish, except hers didn’t cost as much. Lol.
Totally understand that feeling
I love bright red nail polish cause it feels “vintage” to me. Just simple, red, glossy nails. But thiiiiiiis take on red nails is creeepy! 🫠
Same for me. Ive always loved a good red nail, but not sure about this theory. Lol
I’ve always loved it because it can be dark and vampy and I love that look sm! But yeah, why did they have to do this?
I am here for Christine demanding a methodology and lit review section from beauty trends articles. It makes my researcher heart so happy.
talking about hailey bieber and apologizing saying "I'm sure you're very nice" with all the drama about her and selena gomez going down is so funny
Drama that was started by Selina and her pathetic fans
Pearls are definitely in! Pearl hairclips and pearl chocker necklaces have been really popular recently
This was my look for 2 years now, I guess I'm changing that up 🙄
I think most article writers just Google stuff and call their favorite findings “trends.” I used to write for a lifestyle magazine and they didn’t pay enough for me to actually try out the things I wrote about.
The idea of a Holo Taco chrome polish has me so excited!!!
Riiiight?? I want Holo Cappuccino but if there’s chrome coming soon I’ll just wait a bit and get both! Last time chrome was on trend there were barely any good formulas, they were all streaky af. You know Cris is gonna make the best, easiest to apply chrome ever!
@@ab7567 the chrome polish was revealed and it looks soo good!!
i love how these stream highlights feel like a simplynailogical video
Me too!!!!! But better I think?
@@kay1761 i think it might be because Cristine is actually (kind of) talking to people, unlike in a pre-filmed youtube video, so she's more lively
Right?? It shows authentic she is in her videos. It's easy to fake a personality for videos, but doing so for multi hour livestreams is way harder, so the fact she acts almost the exact same just goes to show you how real she's being.
yesss
If a man thinks of his mom when dating, that sounds to me like some serious mommy issues that need addressing.
Agree wholeheartedly!! Run!
why wouldn't they be attracted to women like their moms. Don't you women want men like your dads? I totally went for a man like my father. It made me feel safe and I wanted my children to have a father like I had. You expect men to not want their children to have a mother like they had. DOESN'T MEAN SEGGS YOU RE T A R D S
@@AC-cg6gz Wow, you seem real mature, can't even say sex, and calling people slurs. No, my dad is one of the last people I think about when dating/looking for a man to date. Firstly, because that would be weird, and secondly because I know what I'm looking for in a partner, and my dad ain't it. My dad was fine as a parent, but I'm not looking for someone who will be a good father to me, I'm looking for someone who will be a good husband to me.
@@IceRiver1020 I'm 50 and I don't have to be vulgar to be "mature" It says a lot about you picking a man to just be a husband because of your hormonal wants. I think your reason is selfish and loose. An irresponsible choice for the future. My parents WERE great. I wanted to be like my mother and have a husband like my father so my children could have a stable loving family. AND YOU THINK BEING VULGAR is being mature. I have shame where shame is due. You definitely need some.
@@AC-cg6gz Hon, using the word for the thing you're talking about isn't being vulgar, wow, using replacement words like you’re scared of it is what children do, and what made you sound especially immature was your use of a slur to insult people out of nowhere, for no reason.
Secondly, you're going around making all sorts of assumptions about me. You're assuming what I want, that it's "hormonal," "selfish," and "vulgar," when I haven't told you anything about what I want (frankly, it's none of your business, you're just some random stranger who's being a bitch to me for no reason). From the beginning you've also been making assumptions about what my parents must be like. I never said your parents weren't great, you don't have to reiterate that, and it's great for you that your parents were so great, but not everyone has great parents. When I was little we had a broken home, my parents didn't have a good relationship with each other for a long time, until they realized their problems and put in the work to fix their issues. Though their marriage has being going well for years, it's still not a relationship I would call ideal.
I for one think it's irresponsible to put how good of a father a man will be to my children first and foremost, instead of whether or not he's the right person for me, because maybe you choose a man who's a great father, but not a good husband for you, what about that? If the relationship between the parents isn't strong, it harms the children more deeply than a lot of other things could, so I'm prioritizing the traits that will lead to a strong relationship, which will provide a solid foundation for any children we may have.
My dad is irrelevant to my romantic relationships. Even if he were a perfect man with all the traits I need in a husband, I wouldn't be looking at men and thinking about whether or not they're like my dad, I would be thinking about traits, and characteristics, and whether or not THOSE are present.
wanting to attract men is on the absolute bottom of my list. it's the last thing i'd ever want to happen, so no red nails for me i guess
Oh no, wear whatever you want to wear❤I love red nail polish and i didn’t know it was a trend)
then go for non trad nail designs like asymmetrical shapes and maddys nails in euphoria (they hate that just as much as they hate non trad, experimental and expressive make up) woorks like a charm ! if you want to go all out colored dyed hair, micro bangs and a split brow are really good men repellents lmao
sadly i cant drop the maroon red color because it looks good on me and the only color thats both bold but matches my outfits u_u
@@yisyis i love this comment

as someone who has the attention span of a child and cant sit down to watch a long live stream, i appreciate these videos so much. they’re often uploaded in the evening for me so i’ll always curl into bed in the evening like i am now and just relaxing as i watch 💓
I actually used the pandemic lockdowns in 2020 as my excuse to finally learn how to do salon nails, and builder gel nails at home. Over 3.5 yrs doing my own nails and saved over $3000! I have you to thank, Christine, as well as one other RUclipsr. Watching your older videos really inspired me to try!
Good for you!! Crafting is so much fun to do.
Yes I consider fancy diy nails at home a legitimate craft. It's quite the popular craft too. I don't do my nails, I just enjoy watching Christine, but I do resin & nail stuff is my go to for supplies. It's sooo much cheaper & more plentiful than resin supplies.
I hate the "trend" cycle. All they're doing is renaming the same old things over and over. I've spent so much time ignoring all trends and wish I had continued such.
As a professional nail artist, it’s always so interesting to see how very different salon trends are from DIY trends.
GIRL!!! I've been following Pantone color of the year since 2015-6 and my theory with you and other "fashion" business owners that are creating items in colors.. you don't know, but you do "set the trends", so you, and many other people involved in fashion pick up on certain vibes and go for the same colors. There are many things that go into deciding what is "trending".. Pantone picks the color based on the current social climate, and so it makes sense that they would be seeing what colors are trending, understanding the social climate, along with some good old fashion "predicting" they come up with the color of the year.
WAITIN FOR THE PANTONE BUNDLE
“No society nooo” me everyday
peer review literacy is a life skill 💖 and yes, we should be evaluating all beauty articles like this
the thing about pantone is that its not that YOU knew, its that THEY knew from studying whats on the rise but still hidden, then they essentially predict it's time of becoming massively more popular and then viral and then release it, which it's releasing guarantees they'll be right even more than just the nature of trends does. I've noticed there are usually two parties when things become "viral" which are the "hipsters" and then the general people. The hipsters HAVE encountered it before and have probably been the subject group that pantone studied, so it's already old to them, and the people who never saw it coming have not encountered it so it's new and sparkly and everyone then veers towards it publicly
I am very confused about the red nail theory. Red nails are also used in horror movies a lot too...
the part where it says women with red nails remind them of their mom is scary if you think about it 😂
@@abelsmile Frrr, it's giving Sigmund Freud's Oedipus complex 🤢
I think the mom red nail thing is due to the fact that red nails were so popular for a super long time, so we saw much older woman and younger woman wearing it.
Red on nails has been popular since like 5000 BCE
What I've noticed about a lot of those nail trend articles...if they credit the photos they use and you look at the accounts to try and find it, it's often from years ago. Like five years sometimes.
As someone who got super into nail polish in the mid-late 2000s and followed the collections and things back in the day, this felt like a speed run of some of the trends from that time tbh 😂
Same!!
My friend gets her nails done and she’s like they look better in the sun, we observed them and I said yes there’s some holographic glitter in there but it’s mainly silver glitter. This other person has the nerve to tell me its “iridescent” I was like “no mam, my nails have iridescent glitter on them, see?” And I showed her the difference and she still refused to acknowledge that the original friend had holographic glitter and I’m like I went to the ACADEMY OF HOLO I think I know my shit. Anyways 😂thanks Christine we stan the holo queen.
years ago when i would actually go to the nail salon, i would have my own ideas on what nail art design i wanted and was surprised to find some nail techs will straight out refuse and even go so far as to say they think the idea would not look good. I had only found one nail tech that i could go into, ask for some unique nail art and they would do it no questions or complaints and they did a great job every time. But because that is fairly rare and nail art in my opinion tends to be a overpriced upcharge , this is why i started doing it myself
My grandma was wearing “glazed doughnut” nails when I was a child 😅 I guess it’s a really classy color since it’s basically an upgraded nude 2:52
I discovered that most nail videos were not really nails while watching Yagala. I started using clear putty to put on fake nails for pictures then popping them off because I dislike having long nails more than a couple min. It was life changing. I want to start getting clear nails and making my own nail art to wear.
We need Simply merch shirts that say "Holocore" on them 😆😍💜
I want a chrome nail polish so bad. Not like a sliver glittery finish, I was a mirror like chrome polish 😍 I think THAT is the next big trend
They exist
Cristine made a video on them years ago
I loved that trend, I still have chrome nail powders and water based top coats for them left (harsher solvents agitate the tiny powder flakes too much and make the end result look more like shimmer or glitter than chrome). I would really love for it to come back.
The chrome polishes, chrome nail powders and water based clear coats are still sold, they're just not as ubiquitous anymore. Any big nail polish brand should still carry some, and chrome nail powders will be super easy to find online on anything from amazon to your local online market places.
To add: make sure you buy chrome nail powders and not any random chrome powder (like for non-body purpose).
I saw a few in the store so I think we'll be seeing a lot of smooth chrome fornulations in the near future
When Cristine put the next collection nail polish out in the live stream 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 It's chrome!
I've totally been into using chrome gel for nailart and I've seen that around more and more. So I do think chrome will make a come-back but on a more subtle way than covering the whole nail
4:09 - back when you were just a tot, today's "natural nails" were called "sporty length." Acrylics weren't that popular for normal people and gel wasn't a thing yet; it was in its infancy and called "solar nails." It was a time when people didn't buy stuff they already grew naturally. They had a weird fibrous kind of patch thing you layered onto a broken or thin nail to give it strength until it grew out. I know you don't do videos anymore, but the evolution of nail salons/tech would be really cool.
I wore red nails to a party one. And did it attract a man? Yes. Did he lie about being single? Also yes.
😂 Jesus
Got it don't wear red nail polish. Oh wait I don't wear nail polish anyway. The only nail polish I might still have is semi permanently lost in my collection of craft supplies. Also my nails would probably traumatize Christine. I just enjoy watching her.
I understand the people who don’t do their nails. I love nail art and find it fascinating. I hate the feeling of actually having nail polish on.
I've been watching your channel for years, even though I rarely ever painted my nails. Using regular (air-dry) nail polish was always just more hassle than fun for me, so I only ever did it for special events. However, I recently started using gel nail polish and now I get genuinely excited about doing my nails, lol. I've only been to a nail salon twice in my life and never got gel there, but I think that (especially since the pandemic, where people couldn't go to the salon) gel has become more accessible to the average diy user, and is no longer solely relegated to the salon.
Ah yes, we back again with the oedipus complex 💅🏻
To be fair, I was recently on a date with a guy and I was wearing red on my nails by coincidence. He actually noticed them almost immediately and really liked them AND later he did spend almost 20 minutes describing his mom and how "in shape and young looking" she is. So maybe the red theory is on point
@@sabrinad9303 omg that sounds lowkey awful 😭
@@sabrinad9303I think you proved their point.
Thank you! You summed up my thoughts on these trends. That glazed donut nails were basic nails in the 90s. Every single mom and teacher in my town had that exact nail color. It's sad that we glorify some people so much that anything they do is suddenly a trend.
I watching simple nailogical after months and seeing Ben bring coffee to her seems nostalgia 2016 😍😍❤️ nothing has changed
1987 me is saying as a 13 year old..."it's either red polish or Avon shimmering pink" ...xx

Red Nail theory is giving me Oedipus Complex vibes.
Also thanks for mentioning all the things that can happen to natural nails. I had sepsis when I was 21 and my nails have been super ridgy every since
I love the break to explain meta analyses ♥
I love love love holo! I love Holo Taco! I can't get enough of shimmer!
these more “basic” nails are like what i get at the salon when i’m tryna save money 😅
highkey living for the mushroom nails
Those mushroom nails are so cute. I immediately took a screenshot so I can remember them for my next nail painting sesh
thanks for these highlight videos, simply
I absolutely fucking LOST IT at "approximate vibes" 😂😂😂😂😂
If red nails remind guys of their moms then you aren't their partner, you're their mom. XD
Also, it’s some freudian grade psych nonsense. I don’t want to be reminded of my parents on dates.
This is the best stream while painting our long ass nails on a Sunday afternoon. Love you C.... Love from India
Ok, I don’t even use tiktok but I almost always assumed this stuff is on natural nails. Thank you for letting me know!
Back in the 90s I would do a diagonal tip on my nails with a darker color to cover up a slight chip. It was just a way to extend my manicure. I did not think of fashion at all at the time.
Keep doing you. I’ve watched your channel for so long and love it !!! I also love tea 😌😌
The length one is so funny cause I didn't grow my nails out for a trend. I just watched too much HxH at a formative time in my life and i've wanted claws like Killua ever since lakjdflakjdflakjdf
I RELATE TO THIS SO HARD

My trend nails for 2023 is any gel polish bc I just got into gel polish and I can make every nail a different design and it will last for two weeks and I love it 😭😭

My natural nails are long so I file/ cut them back. I really like the skinny neon french though and the glazed donut has so much nail art potential!
I LOVE flowers
thanks for the cool bases to paint them on lmao
I used to work foot fetish parties and did some research and red polish is the most popular colour amongst men, my current partner likes a deep red similar to I’m Over Brew! Just some anecdotal evidence 😛
Foot fetishists are a different breed. Also, older men have different associations to red nails than Gen Z & Gen alpha, and I am guessing it's so-so with millennials. Red nails used to be a huge scandalous thing. Red anything for women used to be a big deal for boomers. I'm not sure how much of a thing it was for Gen X, though likely more so than for millennials and less than for boomers.
_>used to work foot fetish parties_
Can we back up a second? I'm gonna need more information, possibly in the form of your youtube channel/podcast/substack.
I feel like black nail polish is most popular with gen Z millennial foot fetish people but IDK

Flowers for spring? WOW breathtaking haha
pearls are definitely in for the 13-19 yr range!! we wear them all the time, it looks rlly sophisticated
I have a lot of polishes and often have to look up these types of articles so I can decide a color (usually I can't choose), a TON of these trends aren't really DIY friendly it almost always requires Gel nail polish and not regular air drying kinds.
