But he never told his mother because she saved so hard for his lessons so he could play in a mariachi band. She knew music would lift him out of the ghetto. It's why his music is so poignant and why he does so much charitable work with his foundation to help and protect children. The man's an earth angel. 😇

He walked in to a record store one day humming the melody to Brahms Third Symphony after hearing it being played on a classical radio station. In 1961 a French singer by the name of Dalida recorded an LP called Aimez-vous Brahms? in which one of the hits was Quand tu dors près de moi to the notes of the 3rd Symphony. The lyrics were written by F.Sagan & G.Auric. I first heard this song in the mid 1980's sung by Yves Montand, but it was also interpreted by Yves Cheer and it is a "légende de la chanson française!
Two awesomely talented musicians in their own style, Carlos with his Latin style guitar, Dave with his own incredible "out of box" style of genius, and together they can still make awesome music together. Don't forget Carter Beauford, which in my opinion is one of best drummers on the planet, along with Carlos' rhythm section this song is pure magic!
Story goes somewhat like this, after Santana's dad died, he was into a big depression, one day he heard this amazing song that gave him courage to move on but he did not knew which one it was so he went to a musical store and sung the song to him (the melody of course) and the guy at the store told him that it was from Brahm, here comes the inspiration for this song. Santana adapts all types of shit into his music. Done it from day one with Jin-Go-Lo-Ba, which is originally an African folk tune. Just appreciate that he manages to do it well and enjoy the music, rather than nitpicking over what passage you recognize from a classical piece written hundreds of years ago.
