  • Time for another of hopefully a few Christmas treats coming from yours truly this holiday season. Here's an episode of the ABC Primetime version of The Dating Game from December 19th, 1968, it's a special Christmas edition of the show.
In game one, we follow romantic hopeful Joanne as she tries to pick out a dream date, having absolutely no clue that one of the men is someone she used to know from her days horseback riding. So to spoil, because this segment was fascinating enough to be worthy of spoiling ahead of time, not only does she not pick him, she... well, from the looks of it, either she clearly regrets her choice (Joe Correro, Jr. of Paul Revere and the Raiders) and spends plenty of time mugging on camera with her regret of her choice, or isn't very good at expressing her true feelings. It's honestly hilarious and makes for some primo lowkey awkward television.
Meanwhile, game two features famed poet (and future LGBT ally!!) Rod McKuen looking for a Christmas date. I got nothing, it wasn't anywhere near as funny as game number one. Rod seems genuinely stoked to be there though which is always a highlight. This show shines when the celebrity is game to show up and have a good time, and Rod is no exception!! So even though it's not a funny game persay, it's still a good one.

Out of the three "starlets", Jocelyn Lane is the oldest now at 85, but it's a pleasure to know that all three of the ladies are still alive and doing well as of March 2023! Jocelyn's (#2) response to matrimony was kinda funny, because less than 5 years after the taping, she would marry into royalty by tying the knot with a Prince! Thank you so very much for uploading and sharing this episode! It's great that it's set at Christmas time, too! Let the good TV Shows play on, and take care! Ms. Elizabeth 📺📼📀📺📼📀

Joe Correro is a buddy of mine, he's actually a drummer NOT a bassist! He played drums for Paul Revere & The Raiders, Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds, Helen Reddy, Chase and Al Jarreau. Joe told me on the China trip, he never even saw this chick the entire time-the crew just took him all over Hong Kong by himself on excursions...he has no clue what happened to the "date" as after the show, he never saw her at any time on the trip....crazy...

@@GarryMooreFanRUclips once had a video of a segment of The Dating Game Halloween 1972 episode that featured Vincent Price winning a date for actress Janit Baldwin. They terminated the account of whoever posted that video and never said why, and now I want that video back on RUclips because I never saw any copyright infringement violations on that video. What should I do about getting the video back on RUclips? Please respond to my questions here.

16:50 The movie title that was silenced in the introduction of Salli Sachse was “The Trip.” The bet here is that ABC brass was squeamish about promoting a movie that was centered on LSD use.

I don’t know. The style of the closing credits seems to scream 1968. For the first few years the closing credits were a carded/slideshow style with large double font combos (Ariel Narrow for crew name titles on the top with large Tubular letters for the people’s names on the bottom). Then probably as early as 1968 (maybe 1967) it became scrolling credits with the font seen at the end in this episode.
I’m not exactly too sure if the carded/slideshow style credits were only done for the abc Daytime episodes or for both daytime and Primetime prior to 1968.
