I'm a pretty jaded millennial who hasn't really seen anime strive to be as colorfully imaginative as anime from the 80s and 90s, but damn if DandaDan doesn't make me feel young again in the most refreshing way. It's one of the handful of anime I've seen in the past few years that truly makes me feel like anime is going to be just fine.
I've said it before, but the reason I feel Dandadan works is because it's basically an old-school anime combined with modern production value. I can't speak for the anime, but from my experience with the manga, it's a lot closer to something like Yu Yu Hakusho or even Inuyasha than it is to Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen. People emphasise how wacky or zainy Dandadan is, and while it is super imaginative, it's really not that much weirder than a lot of other series. We're just kinda used to the "post-shonen" (for lack of a better term) of the past five-ish years. Whereas current authors recognise what's cliché, leading them to speed through a lot of downtime and set-up to get to the action and unique stories, Dandadan embraces a lot of tropes while combining them with it's own bizarre identity, ultimately becoming more special despite being less original. Anyway, $4 a pound.

Seiko tells her that her true love is Ken Takakura. Momo misunderstands and becomes obsessed with Ken Takakura, the actor. Oblivious to that fact that she would one day meet THE Ken Takakura.
I tell people ALL THE TIME that Momo is the main character in DanDaDan and I'm constantly told but "Okarun this, Okarun that" lol!!! Okarun is great, and he's an awesome co-star, but this is a Momo centered story and I'm so glad you guys think so too. This is the second time you guys highlighted my niche thoughts on this channel, and it really makes me proud to be a long time subscriber/ low tier Patron!!
DanDaDan is on track to be one of my all time favorites. It’s not just the off the hook story, but the characters are fun and keep me coming back for more.
I think the way in which Dandadan was created makes it so much cooler. The mangaka couldn’t publish any of his work, so his editor told him to just draw whatever comes to mind without a care in the world. So he did, and combined it into a narrative and Dandadan was born! It is creativity unbound, not trying to follow the popular formulas of anime today. And that makes it unique in a world where publishers usually only go for what is safe and what the metrics say is marketable. Dandadan is a unique breath of fresh air in a world of formulas.
This was one of those “talked about” shows I kept putting off. I’m glad I caved. Binged every available episode in an afternoon. Hooked within 10m of the first episode. It’s truly wild, heartfelt, gorgeous, unhinged, glad I gave it the chance
I'm one of those people who want to be surprised by the anime, so mangas just feel like a series of audioless spoilers to me. They're best after the anime is over so i can expand on it, otherwise the manga feels like it takes away from the anime. Invincible is a dope ass comic too, and it definitely takes the sails away from the TV show for instance. Exciting as it still is, having to wait forever for a season of things I already know is going to happen is rough. :c
I just checked my local library and while it's checked out right now, they do have 2 copies of DanDaDan in the system so people can check their local system and put it on hold so it'll get delivered to you when it's in :-)
@@Vespyr_i'm a manga reader, i assure you nothing was taken away XD I dunno if its just me but the experience of reading the manga and anime still feel fresh because of how the anime has anime-original scenes without taking anything away from the source material. @@Vespyr_one thing that that stood out to me the most if you'll compare the two mediums is the angles and delivery. So yeah, I assure you that you'll still be hyped to see the anime even if you've read up to the latest.

For me dandadan is everything I ever wanted as a manga/anime everything about it is perfect no anime/manga has ever had that grip on me as much as dandadan ik im glazing but this coming from someone who’s read and watched hundreds of mangas/animes
Ah yes, the paradox of good thing gets popular, so the desire to not watch it grows in proportion. I feel you, man, but as a long-term DanDaDan manga reader, I can tell you the hype was deserved and Science Saru delivered in terms of adaptation. I really don't think it was an accident that it blew up as big as it has. It's definitely one of those stories that when you discover it on your own you feel like you've found gold and want to share it, but the more you shove it in people's faces, the more they question it and push back.
You should read it too then. Some shows reading the manga would spoil it, but for me reading the manga just gets me excited for what the show is going to do with it, and boy does the manga go some wild places.
Iv just binged watch 9 episodes of dandandan. Cant wait to finish tomorrow. I actually was avoiding it and then I just decided to watch it while folding clothes. This show has so much charm that it’s easy to get hooked in. I love it so far
I’ve been waiting to see this video from you since the moment the anime was first announced, I had a feeling it would be right up your alley. I’ve been Dandadan’s biggest evangelist since I first fell in love with the manga almost 3 years ago (I highly recommend diving into the manga once this season ends, it’s just as immaculate as the anime, both constantly playing into the biggest strengths of their respected mediums. Tatsu’s art is truly spectacular). It’s a truly special piece of art, and after spending the last few years telling every single anime/manga fan I know that it will be the next big thing, I feel so happy to see that prediction come true. My expectations for the adaptation were already through the roof the moment Science Saru was announced as the studio, but they still somehow managed to go above and beyond my sky high expectations in every. Single. Way. Seeing this video pop up in my notifications made me so happy. Dandadan deserves every single bit of love that’s being given to it. Welcome to the Dandafam.
1. You have to watch the battle ark in episodes 8 and 9 against "Creepy Nuts" (see opening for reference). 2. An "anime of the year contender" has to have a banger of an opening and ending song. I can't stop listening to both. 3. Also, DanDaDan - the search for "deez golden nuts" 4. Love the "love triangle" between Momo Ayase, Okarun, and Aira Shiratori.

To the people that understand truth in plain sight, this show has those moments. Crazy how much context is lost because people just wanna be entertained not read between the lines.
Yeah, Mike, I'm the same as you. The more I heard about how great it was, the more I retreated away from it, I mean, how could it ever live up to the hype? How could it be as intriguing or enthralling as EVERYONE kept claiming it was? Also the focus on male genitalia was... And is... Pretty off-putting. Yet the characters manage to keep me interested. I also love assertive female characters, Momo is basically scientifically tailored to pull me in. Funny thing is, I'm like Ken. Though... Without putting up with being people's punching bag or bullshit, but I am a loner and have just accepted that's the way I am. So two main characters that perfectly hit everything on my checklist, if i had one. I'm almost mad I started watching it, because I'm afraid of it getting screwed up later. But my GOD the artistry in this anime is OFF THE GOD DAMN CHART. Colours, contrast, camera angles, like everything about it is somehow just right. I'm not even an artist, but as a LAYPERSON, it comes off as perfect. I really hope they can continue this series and keep the vibe and all of the things that keep it interesting. Definitely a great anime
Dandadan is cool because I think it combines the elements of both Mob psycho 100 with Jujutsu Kaisen, but in the same way it's not better than either of those anime. It just combines what people like about both of those anime
I'm glad you were able to get a chance to watch it guys. Looking forward to the Yugioh and saint seiya videos, know you're putting in the work for those like crazy
Glad to see this video! I've not been in a great place for video essays until recently so now I'll be working on getting caught up on some of the videos.
Glad to see you back in business. Dandadan is a trippy, unique gem of a series. I read a couple of volumes but couldn't really get into it long term. I suppose this is one of those where I prefer the anime. Thanks for the deep dive and video.
Wondering when you'd cover this one! It's legit the first series in years that I've fallen super hard for. Immediately binged the manga after the 3rd episode and I can safely say I'm here to stay with this one.
you probably hear this all the time, but out of pure boredom I stumbled across Dan Da Dan and figured wtH. after the first 3 episodes, I was hooked. and 5ish weeks later I'm addicted to anime in general. just out of pure want, and waiting for new episodes to drop, I got 100% sucked into this awesome genre of shows, games, and lore. so yeah, pretty rad. of course I don't get to ambush people into watching anime because no one i know would even entertain the idea of watching. lol so, I'll just comment on videos online instead. great video btw!
I think one of the most differentiating factors and what makes DanDaDan so charming for me is that our protagonists are superhuman, they got these curses, aliens and psychic powers and all that which usually makes protagonists turn cocky, nonchalant, like they're just there to fight everyond and blast half the city. Meanwhile the DDD cast are still highschool kids, they're awkward, they're idiots a lot of the time. They banter, they care for each other, they get on each other's nerves from time to time, but they're still a nice group of friends.
Really glad the channel is back. I haven't watched dandadan but almost every time i watch one of your videos on an anime i havent seen it makes me want to watch it. I have also watched and rewatched 1000 ways to die in anime. It's interesting, unique, and genuinely hilarious.
This brings me joy my dude! I'm so glad you guys are bringing that quality good good back to our everyday lives. Dandadan is definitely anime of the year, completely solidified after episode 7 IMO. If you know, you know. If you don't, be prepared.
What I love about this series is how, in a world full of paranormal unreliability, Momo turns to Okarun as her anchor of reliability. Their slow burn romance is awesome.
I haven't had time to watch the anime, but I have been reading the manga week to week for quite some time now. I can't wait to see this one! Also, I love how Mike was like, "I wanna share my fitness journey with yall, but I ain't showing you my dogs for free. Have a patreon logo instead."
omg! I am so looking forward to your video on YGO and Saint Seiya! Both series are close to my heart because I grew up watching them and its SO rare to see people talk about SS nowadays!!
Man i love dandadan and the best part it only gets better. The space globalist arc was great, but then the danmanra arc was truly something crazy and incredible i absolutely loved. I love how scrazy yet deep this story can get
Glad you guys are back after the stress of being hacked. My son is actually the one who insisted that we watch Dan Dan Dan, and I have to say that I'm enjoying it so far, and your assessment is on point, as always.
Nice. Mike, you make a good tastemaker when it comes to new series that I don’t already know/like. Between durarara, dandandan, and daganronpa, there are too many of these shows starting with the letter “d” and sounding like a completely gibberish name (or at least it sounds like it to an English speaker like me). I can’t even tell them apart anymore lol.
my thought process from the trailer: "ok, it looks like one of those normal anime--wait it's by science saru? holy shit i gotta watch this" it sucks watching ep by ep though, you gotta wait for them to build up all the way and binge it
Storytime! . I needed a new manga to read while waiting for Chainsaw Man to come back, and VIZ brought up Dandadan. . I read the synopsis and said "Bet", and I couldn't stop reading! . Each page felt like a madness of everything that I ever enjoyed in terms of media as a whole: ghosts, aliens, mythos, psychic + paranormal powers, cute romance, nerds, cute girls with legit personalities, backstories that actually made me feel depressed, and getting back testicles. . I immediately said this was my top 5 favourite manga period, and that was back in September/October of 2021. . I knew it was gonna go big, so I had to wait and just recommend it once to my friends because the popularity of this series is a bit much now, but I still enjoy it. . So yeah, I'm happy you enjoyed it because this is a love letter to everything anime/manga with coke lines, now read the manga! . . Oh yeah, my other top 5 mangas are Battle Angel Alita, Full Metal Alchemist, Akira, and One Piece. . .

So glad you're back! Your channel brings so much joy.
Glad to see this video! I've not been in a great place for video essays until recently so now I'll be working on getting caught up on some of the videos.
This gotta be my fav anime page fr. Great content and love the breakdowns.
This show made me feel stuff i haven't felt in years, its fucking great.
Glad to see you back in business. Dandadan is a trippy, unique gem of a series. I read a couple of volumes but couldn't really get into it long term. I suppose this is one of those where I prefer the anime. Thanks for the deep dive and video.
Episode 4 and 7... Man the feels
Bro episode 7 broke me 😂
glad to see you guys are back
Wondering when you'd cover this one!
It's legit the first series in years that I've fallen super hard for. Immediately binged the manga after the 3rd episode and I can safely say I'm here to stay with this one.
Glad to see you back!
I've been looking forward to the BonsaiPop take on Dan Da Dan since I first started watching it.
Coming from the manga: yes. It gets weirder and yes. It will make you cry.
Vamola :_)
@ bro. Zuma.
@@paperboy1116 That's a tear jerker too.
Zuma fucking broke me man
you probably hear this all the time, but out of pure boredom I stumbled across Dan Da Dan and figured wtH. after the first 3 episodes, I was hooked. and 5ish weeks later I'm addicted to anime in general. just out of pure want, and waiting for new episodes to drop, I got 100% sucked into this awesome genre of shows, games, and lore. so yeah, pretty rad. of course I don't get to ambush people into watching anime because no one i know would even entertain the idea of watching. lol so, I'll just comment on videos online instead. great video btw!
WELCOME BACK BROTHER, DANDADAN IS GOATED!!! 🙌🏾
I was lucky enough to get the manga recommended to me back when there were only 15 chapters and I’ve been hooked ever since
Beautiful video, love y'all.
My dude, u r sooo dam good at this it's actually crazy, long live ur channel. Health really is wealth.
Their slow burn romance is awesome.
that opening ROUND HOUSE KICK WAS A THING OF BEAUTY!!!!
glad you got your guys’ channel back
I haven't had time to watch the anime, but I have been reading the manga week to week for quite some time now. I can't wait to see this one! Also, I love how Mike was like, "I wanna share my fitness journey with yall, but I ain't showing you my dogs for free. Have a patreon logo instead."
because it's awesome duuuuuuh
Let’s go your back!
I am totally loving this anime it rocks thank you for featuring it on Bonsai pop
omg! I am so looking forward to your video on YGO and Saint Seiya! Both series are close to my heart because I grew up watching them and its SO rare to see people talk about SS nowadays!!
Its like those other ones only with actual good writing and a great adaptation.
Love watching this channel before work man I swear
Man i love dandadan and the best part it only gets better. The space globalist arc was great, but then the danmanra arc was truly something crazy and incredible i absolutely loved. I love how scrazy yet deep this story can get
Started reading the Manga a few days ago without realizing there's a anime out, and yeah just the first chapter is so freaking insane and I love it.
Zack Bagins LMFAO funny reference and amazing video
Glad you guys are back after the stress of being hacked.
My son is actually the one who insisted that we watch Dan Dan Dan, and I have to say that I'm enjoying it so far, and your assessment is on point, as always.
Been waiting for you guys to do a Dandadan episode!
Animation has once again peaked after almost 10 years of just slop
I'm sure any Kyoani fan would agree with you.
Dorohedoro also.
Wow! I watched this anime before the video. I bet that will never happen twice. 😆
It was a fun show!
Does anyone know what the background song is at 6:20?
because of best girl Momo Ayase
11:50 and the understatement of the year award goes to:
Hey Mike, hope you're doing good. Thank for the video. You sound exhausted fam. Do stay healthy and safe.
my thought process from the trailer:
"ok, it looks like one of those normal anime--wait it's by science saru? holy shit i gotta watch this"
it sucks watching ep by ep though, you gotta wait for them to build up all the way and binge it
Science Saru just doesn't miss
Why do we love DanDaDan? Because it's fuckin kino. Also welcome back to the land of the living!
Not being a super clued-in internet person, I thought you misspelt Cuno from Disco Elysium and was confused.
But yeah, I guess Kino is good too
@Icynova great game.
Loved it so much I had to move onto the manga, which is somehow even better
The entire world will be obsessed with this show soon. Good.
Storytime!
.
I needed a new manga to read while waiting for Chainsaw Man to come back, and VIZ brought up Dandadan.
.
I read the synopsis and said "Bet", and I couldn't stop reading!
.
Each page felt like a madness of everything that I ever enjoyed in terms of media as a whole: ghosts, aliens, mythos, psychic + paranormal powers, cute romance, nerds, cute girls with legit personalities, backstories that actually made me feel depressed, and getting back testicles.
.
I immediately said this was my top 5 favourite manga period, and that was back in September/October of 2021.
.
I knew it was gonna go big, so I had to wait and just recommend it once to my friends because the popularity of this series is a bit much now, but I still enjoy it.
.
So yeah, I'm happy you enjoyed it because this is a love letter to everything anime/manga with coke lines, now read the manga!
.
.
Oh yeah, my other top 5 mangas are Battle Angel Alita, Full Metal Alchemist, Akira, and One Piece.
.
.
Got a good feeling about this one boys. This one’s gonna pop off. Much luck and love 🤘🏻
