I'm a professional guitarist and have just taken possesion of my first Banjo (an RK-R60A Deco King) and noticed one of the brackets had worked it's way loose in transit. Your video really helped me have the confidence to sort it out - so simple!
Definitely going to do a proper disassembly first chance i get too, thanks again - great vids

oh this is fantastic!! at 2: 37 i now know what that little metal piece is that fell out of my banjo when i took that armrest off. I did not know what it was for. I took my banjo apart to clean it and change the head. this video is saving my butt!! hahah

Thanks Johnny, quite a clinic on Recording King. I got an RK-85A back in July. So far I've added spikes at 7, 9, and 10, and just yesterday, installed some Schaller D-tuners. I don't think it was ever set up other than what little bit I did myself, now, I feel confident that I can tear it down, and do a proper setup myself. Maybe next string change, I'll do it.

2:13 -- "Usually ... I just use a pair of cutters." -- LULZ, a variation on one of the older banjo jokes I've heard; "What's the fastest way to tune a banjo? Wire cutters." :P
New Subscriber, love this content, looking forward to more. (I just got a new 6-string and I wanted some tips on tearing it apart to tweak it out... halfway home by the looks of it! THANK YOU!)

gorblimey61 Splendid video series, has also given me the guts to tear down, clean up
& rebuild my almost 40yr old Lida 226 that haven't been touched in
      over a decade (& 223 that I haven't had in my possession for 20+
yrs), thanks for the inspiration. (Sorry to comment under yours Gorb, won't let me comment in regular box today for some reason.

    thanks!

I'm an electric guitar player used to set up my strings with lowest possible action, but with banjo it doesnt sound tight, should i change the strings with the thicker ones?

When you tossed the strings you voided anything your experiment might prove. Does it sound better because of your tweaking or because of the string change? No way to really know

Stringing it up with the old set wouldn't prove anything either - it would have to be put on in the same way, with no string torsion, and the tailpiece set up the exact same way.

Just a word of advice to the person who makes these videos. When you're posting a video serial, or a numbered series of videos like these are, they ALL should have the EXACT same title, followed by the number in the series. The first in this series is difficult to find because it is not the same as number 2 and those thereafter. The first should be titled, "Banjo build/set-up Part 1 Johnny Butten and Recording King ". and not what you have titled it.
