OSU really gave everyone a two year headstart in NIL 😂😂😂
It's not like they don't always recruit in the top 5. They didn't jump from 30 up to 2.
So did Georgia 🤷🏾♂️
@@mackdaddypeypey1If the SEC wanted to play super roster moneyball, they better be ready for when other legacy programs follow suit
They already do...
Ohio state has been paying its players under the table for years. They just didn't want to do it through the n. I. L. Because then you have no control over the person or the money. When you do it illegally under the table you have full control over that person
Alot of yall clearly dont pay attention to detail. OSU's NIL went mostly towards retaining draft eligible players to stay in school and they filled key needs with the portal. They didnt sign 15 portal kids like Ole Miss (talk about hypocrisy). This was supposed to be the intention of NIL in the first place. Yall had no problem dunking on OSU when their NIL game was trash but now yall hatin because they are doing it well.
The 13 million INCLUDES bringing back 11 starters from last year, plus recruiting HS plus the portal. BTW, OSU has ONLY brought in 6 portal guys. SIX. They lost 15+.
15+ players that were basically non-starters.
Love him or hate him, Ryan Day is COOKIN in this offseason. Looks like he finally got the kick in the ass he so desparately needed. Will be interesting to see how that crowded QB room plays out.
😂 Michigan 3 -0 vs Ohio State
More then likely, the competition this year will be between Howard and Kienholz, with Howard winning the job and Kienholz the backup. Noland and Sayin probably redshirts, with some playtime, but not a lot. Devin Brown is sadly the odd one out most likely, he's just too injury prone and I wouldn't be shocked if he transferred during the spring.
Means nothing if Ryan Day doesn’t change his philosophy. From a talent perspective, OSU has never been lacking. Since 2019 they’ve had some of the best players you could ask for. And had the programs most potent passer for 2 years, with the greatest WR room ever. Yet they continue to fail on the national stage. And it’s come down to poor decision making in the biggest moments. Day has to take a look in the mirror if anything is going to change.

Josh, this was an incredible segment. Fantastic. Truly. Saying the things that need to be said.
Well, Zach Smith rightly said on his show "Schott needs to open up a bag". Maybe 10 days ago. Someone did.
Ryan Day became a shopper at Bama
Just like when Bama got Jameson Williams, etc from OSU. And nobody retired.
Saban Mart
Y'all got 3 BAMA players that have at least 2-4yrs of eligibility - Downs has 2yrs before he can go pro. Julian hasn't even played college fb yet. Seth McLaughlin 1-2yrs. BAMA got Jamo with with possibility of 2yrs, but went pro after 1yr.
Big difference there bucky
Jamison Williams return the favor
@@SoopologyBama got Williams because he could not crack the starting line up at OSU
If 5-stars equated to national championships, Jimbo and Co would be going for a Texas A&M three-peat in 2024. They've still gotta coach 'em up.

I think in the long-term we will see a financial structure similar to the NFL with a Salary Cap so that all the schools can compete. Having a Salary cap will also ensure the best players spread out to different teams just like the NFL.
That in no way ensure _all_ teams can compete.
There cannot be a salary cap until there are both salaries and CFB student-athlete employees. This might take a while. But, like you, I see it in the long term. What I don’t see is any cap on the amount of money a NCAA student-athlete can secure in NIL.
It’s impossible to put a salary cap on these schools they all make different amounts it’s just an impossible task
Love this video, great analysis Josh!
I wonder how it works with Noland and Sayin? One of those guys is gonna bolt within a year.
Yep most definitely. Devin brown and kieholz more than likely gone as well
Nick Saban did a lighter version of this. I think you could possibly be looking at the best CFB team of all time. We shall see how it shakes out. Nobody has ever Recruited/portaled like this before though.

Pressure is on, imagine if they STILL lose to Michigan 😅
Be sad since Michigan lost so many players possibly coaches as well 🤣
Michigan is back to mediocre lol. Michigan does this and builds a generational team once every 20 years lol. They just don't recruit at the same level to reload every year. The next decade will be like 2010-2020. Michigan will randomly win 1 game in the next decade
Michigan will be 7 and 5 or 8 and 4 at very best.
@@MacaroniCeroni- Every 20 years? Try every 76 years
We lose to Michigan again Ryan Day need to be Tared and feathered in shame. Lol
OSU writers have always reported we were behind in NIL because of Gene Smith. With his nearing retirement, we have decided to go all in. A few years ago when we still were playing backseat in NIL it was also said once OSU does get into the game that is when things will change. OSU has the largest fanbase in the nation, has the largest alumni base in the nation, and is in a major metro with a rapidly growing economy and population base. Only a few teams also fit this bill nationwide. We are just doing what southern teams have been doing forever, but we have deeper pockets so they will complain and try and get rule changes passed.
I’m with Josh with his last point
Buckeyes are a top 2 or 3 program from a history standpoint… then you throw in a huge metropolitan area with a lot of money. Columbus is Ohio State football. The money is virtually bottomless
State is not a top three program it's that simple. You can't cheat pay your players when no one else could and call yourself a top three program
@@ronniecee2532they r one of the greatest programs in the history of the sport no matter how much u cry about it
The pressure is obviously there, but the people saying he should be fired if he doesn't win it all are nuts.. if they irrationally fired him there could possibly be a mass exodus like what Alabama is currently experiencing, nobody wants that.. I believe in Coach Day, he runs a great program and he'll just get better at everything with more experience..
As a Michigan fan I say he probably doesn’t face much chance of being fired until they have a season with less than ten wins and a loss to Michigan but until the. He will be there unless he gets to 10 straight losses to Michigan without winning the natty
😂
Under Day, Ohio State loses to Michigan, doesn’t win the Big 10, doesn’t win a national title, and has a losing record in the playoff. Ohio Stare won’t put up with that much longer
Early number 1 on the JP Poll
OSU retained 9 of their own players who were eligible for the NFL draft, that was huge and cost millions.

Exactly!!! If not, he'd be going for a three-peat in 2024.
Stop with the bs comparison. Last I checked Ryan day wasn't losing 5 games a year
Jimbo loses more per season than Day loses in 4 years
Ohio State spent their money bringing back draft eligible players, they already have coached most of these guys up, but sure they have to coach Downs, Judkins, Howard & Sayin

I don't know if this is a sleeping giant situation or not but I'm pretty sure texas and ohio state are maybe the only ones who can foot the bill for this every year. So if this strategy works and if the nil or transfer portal rules don't change I have a feeling that ohio state will become the school everyone wants to go to. If you want to get paid, and win a natty go to ohio state. And I have a feeling texas will be right behind them.
There are 4 teams with a legitimate chance to win it all next year: Georgia, Buckeyes, Texas and Oregon.

You're missing the other piece of the "why now". This is a timing opportunity. How many times is someone like Saban gonna retire and have a ton of blue chip players on the market like this? If you're going to hit the NIL market with a sledge hammer, this is the time to do it. And these are the players to do it with - elite prospects that OSU also recruited. It's a bold, but incredibly calculated NIL move.
I’m playin with this team on ncaa 14 with the updated rosters and yeah this defense is nasty
Better to get players through the portal than signs from Connor Stalions.

This is exactly why I have been saying we need a 20 team super conference. In my opinion there is only about 20 teams who will every year spend 15-20 million on players and lose then get angry and reload for the next season and another 15-20 million.

Like the man said the nil did this not Ryan Day
Ryan Day is quietly on the hot seat. With the returning talent, the money spent on the portal class, and the recruiting class considered... if OSU doesn't win it all, then there is a coaching problem. That said, I don't like how it appears a program can buy a title. I think this will ultimately separate the top tier schools from lesser known schools even further.
They do this every year, stars don’t mean anything. Culture wins championships.
College football is gross right now. All of this stuff is so far out of control it has made the game unrecognizable.
Yeah. Ryan Day is cooking. Sure. If you mean OSU is stroking checks..then yeah. The NIL and portal is slimey.
If you’ve got the money, everything is on the table nowadays. Everyone has a price. College football is just a numbers game
This is ridiculous. Just buying players left and right. So many programs sniping other programs' talent. And they aren't even using the university's money to do it????? They are using random fans' money and alumni' money???? How is this even legal? It shouldn't be. Can't wait for those changes Josh. Can't wait.

Texas Rb Robinson got LAMBO and cash for NIL deal.
Good football teams and culture are built on meritocracy. Ohio State is paying players that haven’t played a snap in the Shoe more those players that have earned it through hard work, blood, sweat and tears. That can’t be a good reflection on the ideology of that program. New players are essentially robbing the current players of all the work they put in. SMH

SEC and Big 10 leave the NCAA and form a football conference.
To me NONE of what Ohio St is doing right now in the transfer portal means nothing. You can stack all the 5 stars you want on one team but only 11 people are on the field at a time. The NIL has given a lot of meaningless recruiting numbers and portal additions and subtractions. Just because you have the #1 recruiting class means nothing and just because you spend a lot of money players doesn’t mean that player is committed. Hell Miami spent a lot last season and look what happened. Hell they lost majority of the SAME players they purchased last year to the portal this year to the same portal, 😆.
Right, getting a starting quarterback, a top 10 running back that will split carries with another top 10 runningback, a starting offensive lineman and tight end, and a starting safety that was a top 5 defensive player in college football as a true freshman will do absolutely NOTHING 🤦♂️😭
😂. Having the number one recruiting class absolutely matters. There’s a direct correlation between recruiting at a high level and winning championships.
Lavar Arrington was 100% right when talking about Penn State losing to Michigan and Ohio st every year. If they wanna compete with those 2 teams, the school needs to give them more money. The fact of the matter is, teams like OSU Michigan and Alabama put a lot more money into their football programs and if you want to be on that level you gotta pay to be on that level. Unfortunately OSU and Michigan have a lot more big money donors compared to most schools.
Bro, that's a double-negative, lol.
@@logankistler8706 it doesn’t….. Bama, OSU, Clemson, GA, Oregon, USC, A&M, LSU, Michigan, and etc always had that. What’s different now besides paying for an investment with question mark results?
Talk about a seat too hot to sit in, if Day cannot get it done this season...
NIL is such a cancer to college. No way should one team be able to drop 13-20million on portal and recruits. There are so many other issues but that’s wild to me for 18 and 19 year old kids who haven’t even gotten a chance to prove themselves
