I get emotional rewatching this. I remember I had a big surgery coming up a day or two after this game. So my dad decided to take me out to eat to watch this game. It was insane. When Alabama went up 21-6, everyone thought the game was over. Looked like it was gonna be a Bama blowout. I think the fact that the Buckeyes had the character to keep fighting is incredible.

I’m an Alabama fan, and I was in the 6th grade watching this game live. Alabama was not prepared to play this game at all, even from the opening kickoff as you pointed out. Ohio State deserved to win this game.
Alabama played some really sloppy games that season, they had a super talented team but had stretches of really sloppy play. Plus Blake Sims was a decent QB but was turnover prone against good competition.

Can’t believe this was almost ten years ago and the first cfp. One for the ages. My dad went to the natty in 02 but I’m glad he got to see one more before he died. I think about him every time I watch the buckeyes. He’s the reason I’m such a die hard fan. I remember him, my uncles and older cousin playfully beating up on me every time they scored against Michigan in 02. I remember him losing faith in 04 and I went to watch the game on a 9 inch tv when Troy stepped up, then out, rolled out and found gonazalez. I remember jumping up and down on the furniture when Ted ginn ran the opening kick against Florida back in the natty only to find out he broke his ankle in the celebration and ended up getting their ass beat and starting the superior sec narrative. I remember defending jt Barrett against his harsh judgments (we were both right in retrospect). I remember him fawning over Trevor Lawrence and me hating it because he was ruining our seasons. I love Ohio state football because of my dad and it’s been a constant in my life that has lasted longer than pretty much anything else. My cousin makes a living running an OSU blog. This is our life. And I wouldn’t have it with any other teamZ
