    As for that poor fellow with the injured jaw I really do hope he will heal sufficiently to stay alive. Cats are rather tough when it comes to injuries and pull through most of the time. I feel sorry for him because I guess he's also in some pain but Kev is right in the not interfering and deciding his fate for him. The wild isn't called the wild for naught and it wouldn't be fair if the predators always won and the prey always lost. I believe this lion will pull through and get better given time. Thanks for all the information and of course for Meg - just made my weekend as usual. Have a great one!

    I've got a great story about interfering with nature. After I wish everyone a great lion loving Friday.
    I was watching a show about lions a couple years ago where I saw this great story emerging. They were showing a pride at a kill. Everyone had their fill when an older lioness who had a hanging bottom jaw and was a bit under weight went to eat. Another younger lioness, probably her daughter, followed her to the kill and layed down. So, the younger one grabbed the back leg of the animal and pulled the leg open to expose the more tender parts. She pulled that leg open ,no easy feat in itself, till she was finished!!! I had NEVER seen this before! WOW!!
    So, since this is about interference by humans, just think about what this pride would have missed if a ranger decided to put this poor old lioness out of its misery...she and her pride would have missed out on her presence in the pride for who knows how long!! They said that the wound to her jaw looked old. .
    Anyway I thought it was a great story to tell regarding humans messing around with Mother Nature!!!!
    So now I've got to mention that Kev, was spending WAY to much time talk, talk, talking and not enough paying attention to her. You know she hates that!!!🙀
    In closing, as always...
    Love and Light ~ Yvonne

    Meg is quite cute when she rolls on her back.
    I'm certain that all of Kevin's animals are very well cared for, I have visited them myself when I was there.
    When it comes to wild animals with a disability, what we see is a remarkable example of how well lions care for each other, it would be much harder for a disabled individual to survive alone.
    Then again I think of Dshamilja, snow leopard born 2000 in Kyrgyzstan who lost part of a hindpaw in a trap. She could be rescued but was unable to survive in the wild with her disability, so she was brought to Zürich where she had seven cubs and lived until 2019. Meanwhile her children have reproduced again, so her bad luck was in the end a good thing for zoo populations. (Meanwhile many zoos figured out how to breed them. Re-introducing them to the wild would be a different story however ...)

    My only problem with “non interference parks” is we interfere daily. Habit loss, poaching, even simple tours is interfering with how a wild animal can be ‘wild’. At some point you just have to do the right thing.

  • @robertlinke2666

    within the ecosystem of the kruger park, lions are thriving.
    so intervening one a single individual can change the way the group dynamics work, and maybe make it worse.

    • @kikia6611
      @kikia6611 3 года назад

      It's hard to call it a true ecosystem with all the tourist interference though.

    • @Kaosu10
      @Kaosu10 3 года назад

      I don't think you can look at ecosystems as binary. Just the decision to make one area non-interference while interference is happening adjacent areas already changes the dynamic of more macro ecosystems. There isn't one spot in the world that hasn't been touched by the workings of mankind, just that if on more of a local level the ecology is stable enough to not be greatly affected or outside the epicenter of those changes.
      With that in mind, the idea is to not interfere when practicality allows it. For example, tourism may bring greater resources to allow for expanded reserves or greater oversight that would benefit the goals of conservation. However,.if the ecology is greatly affected by tourism, it would defeat the purpose of stated goals. We have to maintain a sustainable balance between the two, in order to be better prepared for external factors that may be outside of our control.
      The complexities of humanities role in ecology is constantly being researched and discovered. Regardless if we like it or not, we are all victims of circumstantial reality and can only respond with the cards dealt by history and the present day.

      Don’t demonize all hunting. My husband hunts deer and wild pigs. Here in Texas they are over populated. Deer get hit and killed by cars all the time and the meat gets wasted. Hunters get a tag and they can only kill a couple in a certain time of the year. It keeps the animals numbers in balance and allows people to eat good wild meat. I’m also an animal lover and no I don’t hunt but I respect my husband and what he does. I would never let him just kill anything. We consume that animal and are thankful for the opportunity to harvest meat. A lot of people eat meat but they have no idea where it comes from. I’d rather eat venison that got to live in the wild than some factory farmed meat that lived in horrible conditions.

    I think Kevin explained it very well and the Kruger Park seems to know what they are doing and hats off to them to. Nature always find a way. And for this partikular male lion maybe through his cups. The fittest survive and thats the best for all of his species. Sometimes it is very sad for one individual, but this is nature and its working very well for million of years. Humans should not intervene in nature at all. Thank you Kevin for everything.

    Kevin,
    I don't agree with what you said. Its not about whether an animal is rare or declining but when ever an animal is injured, the vet needs to check whether or not his injury is serious and whether some medication and treatment should be given.
    THIS IS DEFINITELY A CASE OF NEGLIGENCE, NO TWO WAYS ABOUT IT, WHATEVER YOU MAY SAYTO JUSTIFY KRUGER NATIONAL PARK. I DEFINITELY DON'T AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAID. KRUGER NATIONAL PARK HAS THE SAME RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTY AND CONCERN FOR THE ANIMALS IN THEIR CARE JUST AS YOU DO. THEY NEED TO LOOK AFTER THESE ANIMALS PROPERLY AND GIVE THEM MEDICAL ATTENTION WHENEVER IT IS REQUIRED.

    Meggie is still very playful! my opinion: the Kruger National Park should put fences, a recent fact allows me to say this, the animals venture out of the Park and are within gun range. This is a huge cost I realize but it would be nice to find a solution. I wish you a good weekend, get ready to plant trees, maybe such a symbolic olive tree! 💚💚

    • @deathbycheese850
      @deathbycheese850 3 года назад +1

      That would make the lions captive though. The only solution is to educate people, and stop the killing. We encroached on their land, so it's our fault if anything or anyone is attacked. I live in Australia and say the same thing about Sharks. Too often we try to control animals in their own habitats, to their detriment.

    • @VABE11
      @VABE11 3 года назад

      @@deathbycheese850 yes I agree but it is very damaging that these animals that are left quietly in their ecosystem are killed in an instant and often in a slow and cruel way thus generating an agony without name. I am talking about hunters who pay a large sum in cash for a murder, it is not more acceptable. During this time the keepers are doing a remarkable job and are totally invested in their mission because they have a love for African wildlife. Sorry, that's my feeling.
