Nice Scout! I'm looking at a 01 Scout myself..the only thing that I'm not to keen on is the Dry Belt Primary(looking to switch out for a Wet Chain & Clutch) otherwise..S&S Engines are Hard to beat. Looking Good!

I would really appreciate it if you would tell me how many studs your transmission has. Im looking at buying a scout rolling chassis and putting my motor and my baker 6 speed in it if it has 5 studs underneath. Im looking at a 2001 like this with no motor. My trans is for a 1990-97 softail but im told it may fit this bike. thanks for your help

There is an 01 scout for sale in my town, I have never ridden anything larger than a moped, do you think this would be a good motorcycle for a beginner?

This is an outdated post - but in case anyone should want to know, these bikes are heavy, 1437 cc V-Twin motor (that is a large motor). I would say NO for beginners! It is a heavy bike, handlebars shake, and it has a lot of power. Too heavy for a female to pick up. Get a used Yamaha V-Twin 650 classic for a beginner, easy to ride, holds value well, little maintenance, nice looking.
