- Gilroy era bike painted in rare Mojave Bronze. Has dyna 2000 single fire ignition, V&H short shots, new ball bearing petcock, fuel line, carb rebuild, filter, paint saver gas caps, and the 02-03 Scout billet forks that look much nicer IMO than the 01's.
I think your bike is awesome. My family had an Indian dealer in 99-02 in oak lawn Illinois. These bikes look nicer than the Polaris Indians in my opinion. Also you are correct the transmission was a revtek five speed.
Thanks, this bike has an Arlington Heights Indian dealer sticker up by the neck.
I have to get one, I hate the Polaris ones
Reminds me of the Harley-Davidson Deuce
I like it better than the new ones.
Nice!
I also have a 2001 Scout. I've changed a few things to make it more to my liking. But, really, all the people that say it's like a Softail, ok, fine... whatever. Really, a Harley is like an Indian then. Indian was first. Harley came a couple years later. Bam! A copy. But that's beside the point. Ever hear of Camaros and Firebirds? Now, as for me, I've always liked Firebirds more than Camaros... they're more curvy and classy looking than the sporty Camaro. Indian vs Harley? Same thing. I like the Indians for the same reasons. I just feel like they're more classy. I don't dislike Harleys at all. I just like Indians better. Now, as for them looking like a Softail... a company had the rights to the Indian brand, decided to build some bikes, went with an inexpensive method and used some similar details as the Softail from a few years before. They had to build up the capital for designing their own engine and other various things on the bike. Which they did, in 2002. These models were not around long. There aren't many of them. I love my bike. I would NEVER get rid of it for a Harley, or a Honda, or any other type of bike. For me, the bike is perfect.
Do they have problems with the swing arm shaking when going into turns?
No, those are dyna's not softails
I have the same bike in black and really like it. Picked it up last year after it sat up for several years. Looking for a seat like yours, they are hard to find. I heard a Harley Deuce seat from the similar year would work. Does anyone have any idea?
I believe the style is called gun fighter? It was hard to find 8 years ago when I found it "used' on Ebay for like $150. Unfortunately I don't know if an HD seat will bolt right on.
I just ordered a similar seat on Ebay for $100. It is for 2000 to 2005 Deuce. From all the research I have done it should fit, fingers crossed! I love the bike but hard to find accessories .
How has this motor held up over time ?
Good. It only has about 1000 more miles on it from this vid. Lots of little pesky stuff but other than a battery and oil it's the same
I have an 03 scout Deluxe - The S&S engine starts instantly and runs perfectly.
I have somewhere around 19,000 miles on mine. Rock solid engine
How many did they make are they rare ?
Fairly rare. A few thousand I would guess. I was told about 150 were made in this color, which was only offered in 2001.
@@micahmiller7313 it looks sweet!
You still have this bike
Yep!
Pretty much a softail custom, but half the price same engine .
More like a kit bike. Its softail geometry but a little more upscale to an average softail from 2001. MSRP was $19k which was a tick higher than a harley too. But HD's are not trimmed out that well. You gotta buy the extra billet doo-dads whereas this was custom looking out of the box.
@@micahmiller7313 nice! I gotta get one.
Nice bike either way, I remember when I first laid eyes on that bike, I think I was 5 at the time.
That bike does not look like an Indian at all, it looks like a regular Harley especially the motor, 88 cubic inch, that's big, Scouts never used to have them that size, the Chiefs were just 74's stroked and bored, my Dad had a 47 in 1947, rode it through college then bought a four door Chevy for the beginning family.
This is how the Gilroys looked.
They made them like this for 3 years. Then changed stuff for the next 2 years. You say it doesn't look like an Indian, that it looks like a Harley? Ummmm... back in the day, Harleys looked like Indians. Look into the history of it all.
