I much prefer these "slower" episodes Jay.
The old cars, bikes and steam stuff is much more interesting than the mega horsepower modern builds.
Oh and get well soon!
Get well soon? What happened?.
+judas2610 What has happened? Older stuff has so much more history, I watch the show for the stories not for the numbers (200MPH, 800Hp, 1000Nm...) :)
@@BRAVITS
Jays voice sounded like he was getting over a cold.
You can't wear out an Indian Scout
Don't get me wrong, I love the episodes where Jay is talking about and driving other people's cars, but these are my favorite; when he's talking about something from his own collection. You can really see the enjoyment in these videos; they're all cars and bikes that he has because he loves them.
I think he looks exhausted lol cool video though
+Catfish far from it
CRQ5508...I totally agree with you.
Jay considers himself the caretaker of vintage motoring, and I for one agree with him. I don't believe there's a finer collection than what Jay has under his roof's'
He seems very knowledgeable... Very interesting. Good comment from you, you are right on! 👍
In my opinion, that's about as good as it gets. What an awesome machine!
i like how he addresses the bike as an old friend.
So many people are so grateful to you for allowing us to see this stuff, Jay. Thank you.
What a great episode. It was nice to explore this old machine in a relaxed way with just Jay and no guests. I can't believe how smooth that engine runs on startup, and I love the subtle gear whine. I hope this episode garners just as much enjoyment from the audience as the big ones, so we can see more like this.
I'm Irish and am ashamed that I'd never heard of Charles Franklin before watching this.
Bizarrely, in a country that is always celebrating its own sportsmen and achievers, he has been skipped over in Ireland.
So I went and bought the book, "Franklin's Indians", and have just finished reading it.
Good to see that the authors of the book have now put a memorial plaque on the house in Drumcondra where Charles Franklin was born.
There is a video on RUclips of them unveiling it.
That's the coolest motorcycle I've ever seen. Colour, design, original condition, everything...
Cool classic bike. It's crazy to see how far motorcycles have come since then.
This, to me, is everything Jay's channel is truly about. Teaching us young bucks (I'm 28, guess I'm not that young) an in depth history lesson on a gorgeous motorcycle or old car. I do respect the vendors Jay features on here and some of the brand new cars that are debuting, but to me the very best videos involve taking the old (simpler) metal masterpieces out for some fresh air. Fantastic video!
This is amazing. And THAT BLUE COLOR IS STUNNING! You make shifting that 3 spd look so easy, too!
I'll be pulling out my bike this weekend for a cruise.
That beautiful motorcycle is 85 years old! Far better looking than any modern bike. Keep up the great work Jay. More motorcycles!
Totally agree. I love that look. Between that and old Nortons it doesn't get much better
Don’t know if I’d say it’s far better looking than ANY modern bike, but.... it’s definitely far better looking than any modern INDIAN!
@@georgecostanza2695 Really? What do you think of the new Indian Scount Bobber Twenty? It's gorgeous. I like retro too but this new Bobber will be looked at in 50 years as pure beauty and art.
@@hlmitchel don't get me wrong, I'm actually not a retro guy. I'm a huge fan of modern design but I'm not into bobber bikes much. The problem I have with Indian is that they've been on again off again so many times, I don't think corporate even knows what they're trying to be. At the moment, I think they're just trying to capitalize off what heritage cues they can then take it from there. HD on the other hand has never strayed very far from their core design philosophy and language, therfore their products are able to portray a much more natural evolution... like I can see how they got to where they are now, from where they started. There may not be value in that to everybody, but sometimes it's nice to have that consistency and foundation in an ever changing world. Anyways, my favorite contemporary Indian on terms of styling is the FTR. Not a bike I'd ever buy, but I sure do enjoy looking at it!
Absolutely one of the very best episodes. You can feel, see, revel in Jay's passion for this bike. His knowledge about machines and their history is a joy to experience.
Jay, I congratulate you for creating such a special place as your garage.. It's really amazing that a man enjoys motorcycles and cars so much and is just not a collector. Seeing you ride that vintage motorcycle was a real treat.
Pure Motorcycling at it's best. How lucky can you get to have an owner of a bike like this to show how it was in the early days of the sport, AND to ride it. So many are relegated to museums and private collections Jay, thank you so very much for allowing us to enjoy your bike as much as you do!
These are my favorite episodes. Just Jay going over the vehicle and then taking it out for a spin. Great episode.
Love seeing Jay ride the vintage bikes. Not slow but enjoying every moment of the ride. I love taking it easy sometimes that's when you can drink in the feeling of motorcycle riding. Thank you Jay
Great episode Jay, these are my favourites. However, as a kid back in England during the early 70's I recall seeing a lot of the older guys still riding WWII surplus Indian's. They were I guess still quite cheap and parts were easy to find. Although that may have something to do with why to this day they are my all time favourite bikes!
I had a smile on my face just watching jay ride the classic, there is nothing like looking at one in real life, my wife's childhood friend's husband had a ww2 model harley with sidecar, it still had the original army paint, sidecar with windscreen, .30 carbine saddle, and all of the accessories used with the military model, I wish I had the money to buy it, for her husband passed away and the bike just sits there. a wonderful piece of history.
One of the things that Jay provides in his show is the amount of knowledge and history.. I really enjoy it! you don't get this kind of information and stories anywhere else.. and what a gorgeous machine indeed!
I think I like the calm and serious Jay even more than the comedian. Great motorcycle btw, I love the old Indians and you have some really cool ones in your garage.
Iay's Garage has become a paradise for this old gearhead....keep them running...
Where I live there’s too much snow and ice during winter to ride. Every spring, that first ride is always the most exciting. You’re not re-learning how to ride. But you’re just barely enough out of practice that the sensation of riding feels brand new all over again. That adrenaline rush is so much more than any other.
Love the old bikes!
Best episode in a while. Cheers Jay.
My Great Great Grandfather was the first Indian "motocycle" dealer in Brooklyn, NY. I have a picture of his dealership in 1931. Crazy to think those were being sold in there. What a beautiful machine!
I love old bikes I'm restoring a 1946 Indian Chief thanks in part to Kiwi Indian parts and Starklite parts where I'm getting most my parts to get this old girl back on the road. This is my third Indian Chief and I'm not selling this one. Back in the early 70's you could still find them but not now. I like all Jay's video but the vintage motorcycles are my favorite. I learned to ride on a 38 Indian Scout my neighbor had in the mid 60's. I know you won't remember you meet so many people but I met you at Bike week in Daytona like 30 years. You looked over my fully restored 1972 FLH in front of the Crazy House salon if I recall. Thanks for the video..
More old stuff. So many people have copied this format of show, Jay's unique collection needs to be more center stage.
I agree100%
Ol Burt would be smiling down seeing that old girl still running.
I love old bikes.
I’ve never really got to ride much but I’ve always loved these old bikes
I just LOVE it that Jay has a GREAT collection of unique antique cars and motorcycles that he drives!!!!!
I would like it if he had a museum so the public could see them in person, but have empty displays when Jay is out for drive.... as not everyone is smart enough to come to RUclips to see his channel!!!!
This is one of your best episodes for a long time do more original old cars and motorcycles!
What a beautiful bike. Amazing.
Happy that the bike is so appreciated. If ever there was a worthy motorcycle design then the Scout 101 was IT. Thanks for sharing this, Jay.
Keep videos like this coming. Honestly, I'd rather see videos like this than the ones of bikes and cars I'd never be able to afford or ride/drive.
Great episode Jay, couldn't turn it off...
I am not a motorcycle guy, especially old bikes like that but this epusode was great! It was one of the best episodes I have seen on this chanel. I really liked the passion you shared with us about this Indian. Nice video review. Thanx for making it happen.
A lot of people think of Jay Leno as host of the "Tonight show" but there's so much more to who he is. He's a man I feel like that could be a friend of mine, I can understand what he's saying and relate to it and I would never regret subscribing to his RUclips site. Thanks Jay!
I'm Sooo late!
Stumbled onto Jay Leno's Garage via RUclips and am watching it all back to back!
As the owner of an Indian motorcycle I am so impressed with Jay's mechanical and historical knowledge!
Well done!
Beautiful and timeless. Awesome for you to feature this.
absolutely spot on. The worst thing eny one could do ti this bike is restore it. saw a brough superior on Friday that was been ridden, looked like it had a oil rag rubbed over it now and again , last time it was painted is when it left the factory.
...Just enjoy the ride...a classic Indian always is a real beauty. Thanks for the nice experience.
Just saw the video of the 1930 Indian Chief. Had to come back and watch this one again... Love these bikes! Thanks Jay!
Much better to see a bike like this than some new supercar. All the supercars look the same to me. Going to go watch some of Jay's steam car videos now, those I would like to see more of.
Weirdo
bugaudigini mclaren and ferarri all wish to suck this bike dry and pay to do it... modern regulations make it so there will never b freedom to create such beauty ever again. that is why we worship the old and dismiss the new. there is no difference anymore because all auto co.s r in bed w eachother and p.t.b... to co~operate instead of competing in order to stamp out and steal from any new comer with anything original... btw i was born in 94 cuz imsure that matters
+Daijyobanai Have you watched the video Jay made of his Doble E-20 ?
trespire
yes, a while back, that was fascinating, as are all of the steam cars under Jay's care. The steam car vids are what got me to subscribe to his channel. I'm more interested in old stuff, incl. petrol engine stuff from 20 years ago than new super cars.
Daijyobanai
I'm like minded, hardly any of the cars of later years peek my interest, seems their designs are all aligned to conformity with NPAC, fuel economy, eurobubbles. Voiding them of individuality. Even a Ford Anglia has more personality !
Do you own any older vehicles ?
750 likes and 0 dislikes. I enjoyed the kind of low energy and somber Jay.
+linglingjr my favorite bike of all time... i like these videos better than the sema guys all trying to out do each other...
+linglingjr I noticed right away the more paced Jeno.. It sounds like he's got a cold or something. His breathing is heavy.
+linglingjr Agreed. It was nice to watch a video where Jay was more informative and calm than usual.
What a sweet sounding ride.....motorcycle perfection in its day and not far off the mark today.....
Mr. Jay Leno You are officially my hero. The way you are happy for an old indian or basically anything with an engine and staying so authentic despite your earnings. Human kind need more CHARACTERS like you. Thank you for sharing the wonders of your garage. I never drove a v8 but will get there ones. cheers from Slovakia and thanks again for bwimg great.
have a good one
Tomas
Great video Jay, it's nice to see original bikes still out being used.
Great episode and scooter Jay, you two make a perfect match.
Legends are measured in years, not seconds.
I’ve become obsessed eith his narrating of these old motorcycles. Love it sir, thank you Mr. Leno.
When I die I wanna come back as Jay Leno. These are the kinda toys that keep life interesting. Love the story's, and the knowledge he gives you about all his vehicles. Stay well Jay, thanks for the tutorial !!
Jay's scream at 4:27 got me
Doh!
I think I like these kind of videos a lot more for a change where it's about one of Jay's vehicles and he talks the whole time about it instead of having someone else talking back and forth about their car as it's more authentic if it's Jay's own and you can tell by his emotion and interest over his own cars compared to someone else's. Also this video felt more down to earth and personal unless that was because Jay was tired lol.
+Mr Everything I think so too
well said, i really enjoyed this...great way to end my easter evening...thanks Jay !!!
Agreed. Superb video, i forgot how good the videos were that he did on his own vehicles. Im going to have to go back thru the archive and relive some classic jay leno moments. Anyone remember that bug steam powered truck thingy that almost caught fire?? Classic Leno
+Mr Everything This videos are much better. I think it should be like this 70% vintage cars (trucks)25 percent vintage bikes, 5 percent new cars n stuff, and also bring that guy back with car tips n tricks( skinned knuckles) magazine !
thanks for taking the time to go through your passion. I really enjoyed that you showed off that book. People are experts, but nobody wants to help you become one yourself.
For the record, I am personally here for THESE types of videos! I enjoy seeing the older stuff. The newer stuff is all over the internet!
Great video. Love the old stuff!
I loved this! Please do more reviews of your own collection!
Jay Leno's garage is the best. I watch every week.
You know what I love? Look at the bike as the camera goes over it. It's got dirt on the tires and the frame. Jay rides this. That's why I like these. I never watched him on TV, the Jay Leno I know is the gearhead.
Jay, I liked this episode much more than the "go fast" episodes. Thanks for bringing it to us.
So anyone here know about Burt Munro and his Indian, he got his Indian to go over 200mph, the record still stands for the fastest under 1000cc.
Look him up
183,58 mph
No weird sycophant guest, no wife jokes, no mention of the McLaren F1 or Gordon Murray...ahhhh. Great episode, more like this please!
jay said how cool this must have been in 1931, hell that is still cool, jay is the only person that makes it very enjoyable to watch him having fun thanks jay!
this was a refreshing episode
Yes, this is what I want to see! I don't like it when people come to Jay's shop and explain whatever their vehicle is, and Jay just stands there asking dumb questions.
Also, your website no longer exists, which means all the old videos on the stuff in your garage is missing.. Would love to see all of it, so re-uploading all of that would be wonderful!
+Anders Høifødt Nbc owns the rights to the old vids. They pulled them off for whatever reason. The one I want to see again is Jay's Duesenberg that you always see on the end of these vids. That was a great video and probably Jay's best car in his garage. I think it was a SJ supercharged model and those cars were way ahead of their time. Love to see Jay do another vid of that car since NBC will never release it.
They're not dumb questions. They're part of keeping the videos presenting information.
Jeez does this country need Jay Leno back on TV now more than ever.
LOVE this episode. Thank you so much Jay. You are THE BEST :)
Jay, don't be a hero, take care of yourself and get well... then shoot some more RUclips vids. Love the classics far more than the new stuff btw, please keep em coming.
Jay sounds like he's tying to beat a cold. Get better Jay :)
thought i only noticed. ...
yes ..get better.
+kevinsdb1 Heh, me too this morning. The first thing I thought was 'Oh Jay's got one as well'! Nice episode, interesting to see how these old bikes were set up.
+kevinsdb1 nar he was just partying hard because he has no kids
+mrhookups International treasure, needs to take care of himself. Take care Jay, Australian fan. :)
I'm assuming he's ok now.
The smile @ 16:26 tells it all. I rode a 1949 Indian Chief that I worked on many decades ago (peened in the valve seats) and I'm betting I had the same smile on my face.
I saw an Indian Scout in a Wall of Death just like 3-4 Years ago here in Germany. If you ever have the opportunitiy, watch these shows. The noise, the vibration, the sheer danger, that is absolutely unique
You sound tired Jay, get some rest and thanks for sharing!
+Calyn45 its funny I was just thinking the same thing I'm like he's either tired or sick
+Calyn45 I thought so too, hope he's OK.
+Ryan Welsh. yep I was thinking the same thing. He's what 65-66 now?
+Calyn45 I was also thinking this as well, I guess age can catch up to anyone of us.
+Ratt Rodd Ummmm....he could just have a cold.
Great Episode! Not that the latest ones are bad...but like you said...slowing down and looking at an old girl...sounds strange but i can "feel" the love. Which i also share. Thanks!
These motorcycle videos are some of my very favorite. I've been waiting a long time to see this one. Thank you!
Major companies should recreate models like this and earlier 20s vintage machines. I bet they would sell well.
If you have ever heard of Janus Motorcycles, they are doing exactly this in Goshen, Indiana
Beautiful bike Jay
I'm just so jealous, if only I could afford that bike. I would take perfect care of it, go over it everyday. Keep it entirely original, put it in my living room at the end of every evening. Wake up in the morning with a cup of coffee and ride it out every morning, just nice and slow. Incredible. Maybe one day.
I love Jay's enthusiasm for the history, the genius, really joyful
Wow really enjoyed this Jay I lived next door to Burt Munro's grand daughter would often chat bikes n stick her head over the fence when she heard one of my Norton's fire up :)
I've never clicked "Add to" playlist for any of Jay's cars, but I've done so for almost *every single motorcycle!* In my opinion, Jay Leno has surpassed Steve McQueen as America's ambassador of motor sports. He brings a new kind of "cool" to the roost.
Solid... Great comment. ;-)
He apologized for the slow video - but I prefer these. I get bored with the SEMA high horsepower etc. We see that everywhere else. I got onto Jay because he did the weird stuff we never see. More of this!
Awesome!! I love classic Indian bikes. It was a nice slow relaxing video from Jay, thanks.
Just a joy to watch these episodes. Thanks. Keep them coming.
It is good to slow down once in a while.
Really nice, honest bike Jay, and a relaxing video. Thanks for the slow-down.
Jay, my Dad had one of these back in the day, he is a fighting fit 85 year old next week, although he did break some bones riding his motorcycle!
Thanks for the video, bought back a lot of memories for him. Kudos from Australia!
i love seeing and learning about the old bikes......I am glad that Jay is keeping them on the road and sharing his experiances with everyone.
Seen loads of episodes, never commented before.
Not one of your best days, was it Jay?
Whatever was bothering you, hope it goes away in a blink of an eye.
Thank you for spending your time sharing your knowledge and entertaining us when you didn't have to. Many "stars" should look at you and be ashamed of themselves.
+Clavius Magnus I noticed this too.
TopShotta We need to wait for next week to see if Jay is in a better mood.
Would like to hear from Jay himself everything is back on tracks and whatever was wrong is gone.
It sounded like he was fighting a cold.
Let's see more of Jay's stuff, less SEMA stuff.
Hyatt Busbey how about let see it all? What's the rush?
Tamil ah bro?
How wonderful. My dad was born in 1907 so when this bike came out he would have been 24 years old. He had a tat on his forearm that had an indian head that looked like the one on the buffalo head nickel and around the picture it said Indian Motorcycles USA. When Jay pulled away from that light and shifted into second gear I would have sworn it was my dad. Oh yea, he and his older brother rode the wall too. Thanks Jay!
That thing purrrrs. So in sync everything is aligned beautifully. Nice!
Nice, very nice.
Stonking video Jay. Cheers
What a beautiful note that this bike has. You put your stuff out there for everyone to enjoy, like no one else does Jay. Can't thank you enough for that and all of the knowledge that you impart. You are a natural teacher / historian.
This has officially taken place of my Top gear fix, keep it up Jay a true car guy, God bless.
Thanks mate.....so so còol bike. never sèen, if you don't show us.
Jay's voice is strange today, sick?
+huss1205 Yeah something is going around Southern California. I caught it too. Wouldn't be surprised if Jay caught it
+Se7enAte Zika virus ?
yeah he's exhausted from playing with all his fucking toys
+huss1205 I could barely hear him half the time, with all my volumes maxed out & using headphones.
+huss1205 I noticed that too .
"you care more about your bikes and the dog than you care about me"
Oh my god how many have heard that , happens to the best of them.
I thoroughly enjoy Jay Leno and his features on so many forms of classic modes of transportation. Thank you Jay!
Jay, please don't apologize for the "slow" episode. My dad rode Indians cross-country in Minnesota back in the 30s. I know nothing about his bikes, so this was really interesting. That said, I can enjoy listening to you talk in detail about anything in your garage. Don't worry about boring anyone! Great job!
