I am concerned for the officer being exposed to street traffic, it would be a better position on the sidewalk. Stay safe out there boys and girls. Very impressed by the Japanese Bike Police professionalism.
A lot of times, they will stop in front of your vehicle after you are pulled over. If they are in pairs, one will be in the front, the other will be in the back. They will show you the equipment and what speed you were going and write you the ticket. The best thing is that you dont have to go to court to pay it, just go to any post office and you can pay it there. Unless it is something way more serious.

Contrary to what foreigners think we do chase people BUT only if we need or depend on situation we do not do dangerous chases like in the US. The majority of people who run from the police are foreigners as well. Many times we use unmarked cars or air units that follow suspected vehicles when we terminate pursuits. Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama or any of the big cities are one of the worst places for police to work. We have many officers hurt or killed each year as the most dangerous thing a police officer does no matter what country is traffic stops. Tokyo is just like LA in the US very crowded, dirty and very high crime. Nihon is far from what western media or foreign online people make it out to be Japan is not as safe, polite or clean as they claim. The one big lie is you don't need to lock your doors. We have murders, rapes, shootings, robbery and everything every other country has and again more so in big city like Tokyo.
