2:23 Did my man really jump out of his car while it was going backwards, like it was going to be safer than crashing into something while going 10 km/h? My god, that was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. He smacked himself with the door, and almost got his foot run over by the car. Edit: Also, never lock up your breaks in the snow, you can't turn, and the car goes sideways if you try. If you don't have ABS, and feel them locking up, ease off the pedal a bit.
I drove on snow 2 days ago 🥶😭 and now am watching this . Be safe everyone , no matter what slow were going to we still reach the destination . The key to safe driving in snow is being smooth with the steering wheel, accelerator, and brakes.
very true, i noticed in this video, most cars have locked their wheels, you can't control your vehicle with locked wheels, and you will not stop faster either, i drive in these conditions regularly every winter, and in 43 years, i never had an accident due to winter snow, as bad as i ever seen.
80% of the video is Russia, the city of Vladivostok. I live here. The city of Vladivostok is all located on the hills, many drivers are caught in the snow in traffic jams on the city’s streets. Slippery becomes very fast because of the high humidity (the city of Vladivostok is located on the seashore) the snow quickly turns into ice and becomes very slippery, neither the winter tires nor the master save
i never understand when people do this, lot of black ice vids from the usa as well, there is one where there is a couple in a semi-truck and the lady passenger wants to jump out constantly in the middle of everything while cars are still coming at highway speeds crashing into eachother... The safest place in this situation is the car/ truck in this case, unless you are right next to the side of the road and you can get off of it safely...
Just some simple advice.... if your car is skidding and you still on the brakes.. your a passenger... you have nothing to lose by coming off the brakes and trying to steer and if your lucky regain control
@World Traveller That's the thing. Don't use brakes, but you are picking up more and more speed. Tapping isn't cutting it. Many modern cars don't have low gear. If you continue picking up speed you are going right through a stop at the bottom of the hill and into traffic. If you do brake you are sliding off the road or into oncoming traffic! In some cases it's a no win scenario. Best thing to do on some days is stay home.
@@yanni2112 congrats man! I have a B6 Quattro and a B8.5 S4. Both are tanks in the snow and fun to rally around when Stability Control is turned off. I have balanced cable chains for all four tires and trips up Utah canyons to the ski lodges are no problem even during monster blizzards! It's sick. Just be careful. The Quattros are so good, they can give you a false sense of security. You can get yourself in trouble real quick if you don't pay attention. Congrats again. And all the mods you can do....
Don't keep your foot on the brake when sliding, even with ABS it is still like a sled. Many of these dents could have been avoided by just having the clutch down and gently steering
What's a clutch? 99% of cars today are CVTs. Not only do the not have a clutch, but many don't even have low gear. The only way to slow down is to brake. Tap, tap, tap. But then owner's manuals tell you not to tap antilock brakes! Depress firmly they say. Go slowly, tap the brakes (despite the owner manual), and pray. Better yet, stay home.
@@alansach8437 That's the difference between Europe and North-America. Here have a lot of cars full manual transmission, but automatic is becoming more popular. I have no experience with CVT or automatic transmission during the winter times. But having a foot on the brakes would still make car a sled. But hey, we are all smart until we are in the same situation :)
It helps significantly. Of course, these people who lock up their tires and expect that they can steer are also going to have big problems; and AWD + snowtires aren't going to compensate for driver issues.
In a lot of these cases if people unlock their wheels they can maneuver the car , its not gonna stop anyway , but you can better control the slide. Ice ice is still ice but sometimes its just enough
YOU CANT BRAKE AND STEER AT THE SAME TIME!!!!! You can only choose one in these cases, so if braking isn't working, steer! It would have avoided most of these accidents.
ABS only works when it detects the rear wheels are moving faster than the front, and if you have a 4 wheel brakeing car, all 4 wheels will lock up when you press the brake due to the ice and the car thinks the car is fully stopped.
Why try and steer? You''ll be going a bit faster on basically ice. You can't zigzag through streets, bends, walls and cars. Eventually you''ll still crash. Either drive on flat horizontal surfaces with walking speed or just don't drive.

Remember, if you go driving in conditions like these with your all-wheel drive, your winters tires and your winter driving skills, you may not lose control of you car. But someone nearby you might lose control of their car, and now you're entangled in a 7-car pile-up.
True. And you might end up in the ditch even with all those things. When driving around in the winter the vehicles I see most likely stuck or in the ditch are the 4bys with snow tires. Problem is, I was told by a Highway Patrol friend of mine, is the drivers get cocky, while most 2WD drivers are scared out of their goards and slowing way down.
