This deck feels like a weird combination of Soul Sisters and Aristocrats but without either of the parts that makes those decks good. Aristocrats really wants the Blood Artist effects and Rally the Ancestors as a finisher, and Soul Sisters wants to go big and wide with Heliod. Orah, the Priests of the Forgotten Gods, the Archfiend's Vessels, and the Unearth all feel kinda wonky.
The mainboard of this deck is actually only 17 cards away from being Historic legal, 8 of which are lands which get replaced with Shock and Check lands pretty easily and 4 are Soul’s Attendant which can be swapped for Impashioned Orator for a cleric or Ajani’s Welcome to match the curve. The biggest issues to get it on Historic would be Path to Exile and Unearth with their closest matches being something like Glass Casket and Call of the Death Dweller. And of course the sideboard should be built out for the Historic metagame and not Modern’s, though 11/15 of the cards from this sideboard are legal in Historic.
I think there's a strong case to keep the budget manabase. Fetchlands and shocklands cost life and a that's relevant for the Speaker of the Heavens and the Righteous Valkyrie. Furthermore, I'd consider replacements for the caves of koilos that don't cost life (perhaps Isolated Chapel or Fabled Passage).
This was a very pleasant video Seth. Thanks so much. As a quick question, it's been a moment since you did the against the odds(? much abrew?) of Kaya's Extraction. Although it missed its calling against Uro, is there any chance of seeing that deck revamped and used again? It's still to date one of my favourite decks you've ever brought into modern.
I’ve been playing Clerics on arena for the last six months and it’s surprisingly fun. Not super competitive but very combo-y. Not a ton of recursion besides Orah though and very little card draw (taborax just isn’t good...)
I've been brewing a taxes/soul sisters mash up with righteous valkyrie. It's a work in progress but it's just not worth in this meta. People REALLY hate x/1s. So I've moved to more tax style. Playing stuff like serra avenger leonin arbiter etc. It's more expensive with vials etc but I'm sure you could play green and company to make it cheaper cost wise.
Priest of the forgotten gods felt a little wrong for the deck, but other than that the deck looks sweet. Magicaids had a providence deck and I wonder if that could mesh with this deck a bit.
How so? It’s a way to get your graveyard cards out and create those nice 5/5 creatures and give the demon life link while getting rid of opponents creature and gaining 2 mana
With what few non-creature spells you were running a good viable budget land would have been Unclaimed Territory, sure it only produces mana for creature spells but the rest of your lands could make that up as only a few paths and unearth were run in the main deck.
Even though it's not a full on Clerics tribal deck, MagicAids Speaker of heaven deck with Providence (and the white Force to exile it after) seems stronger, and that was before Kaldheim so I'm curious is there would be a slot for Valkyrie. Nice try nonetheless!
"I said what I meant and I meant what I said" - Seth, probably. But, the invocation for Hazoret looks like it says Pervert so that's where the joke comes from!
18:50 any reason not do double block the dragon? either the valkyrie or the big demon would have lived and the dragon would be gone - no path needed...
You seemed to flood out in nearly every game without having much draw acceleration... Id guess going down to 21 and adding 2 smugglers copters might be good... Just my take on it
Yeah, seeing this deck in practice was brutal. Its curve is so ridiculously low that there's no way playing 23 lands is correct, especially without reliable card draw
I ran dusk//dawn in my soul sisters sideboard before power creep completely pushed the deck out of the meta but it could work for similarly stat’d creature decks as a pretty one sided board wipe against midrange creature decks and has the upside of mass grave recursion
One thing I'm always curious about with budget magic is why Seth never runs something like evolving wilds/terramorphic expanse for mana fixing instead of the painlands. I'd think the thinning/mana fixing would be worth it.
I would have taken out a priest or two, and maybe take out an arcfiend. Both feel like they aren't useful in the majority of scenerios. Not sure what to add, maybe something like ajani's pridemate, and if you're going budgetless you could add the pridemate ajani and/or thoughtsieze.
I run an abzan version of this using essence warden and heroes reunion...reunion on turn 2 after a turn one speaker makes a 4/4 on turn 2....the clock is pretty fast
Yeah, Selfless Spirit is a bit too expensive unfortunately. I think it's good in the sideboard at least (and maybe main deck) for non-budget Clerics though.
I've tried playing a deck a lot like this in penny dreadful. Priest of forgotten gods looks really bad. It's possible that your deck would be better if you replaced 4 lands with skyclave cleric
Not enough room for at least one Silent Clearing? I feel like that would be a boon to the deck. Edit: Also, Village Rites feels like it’d be perfect for the deck.
Oh, the intro video's quality has really improved! Also, very cool deck! Hope it works! My version is with martyr of sands: www.moxfield.com/decks/3OMFXJADpUi-4n7udO7nJQ If you have time, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Wouldnt Esper be better for dubstep? WUB WUB WUB
why not both?
@@sushiske Haha you've graced me with a reply! I love it either way! You're doing fantastic work, keep it up!
Its funny as esper is the least party wedge by a mile.
Seth: we're probably highly favored against these red decks.
5 minutes later
Seth: Lava Dart is really good against us
I'm building a modern budget battlebox and today I was wishing you made a budget orzhov clerics deck! This feels so unreal hahahaha
The universe is a strange place, eh?
Good timing!
This deck needs a non budget revisit
Any ideas on what cards to add/replace?
I've been trying to make this kind of deck work for months, without having ever seen this video. You've given me an insane number of ideas for it.
Did you brew it?
40:33 Hazoret the WHAT?!
Seems like a clerical error to me...
Ba dum! Tiss. Glad I'm not the only one who caught that 😅.
Read the Invocation version and you’ll understand
The invocation versions text was so weird that it looked like the word Pervert
@@otisnt5718 Yeah, it's an Invocation joke :)
Would be fun to see the non budget version
Read the article. Has a non budget at the bottom.
@@grantreiber382 I don’t see a link or anything in the description for a nom budget version?
Someone needs to convince the editor to work with Alter Sleeves so that we can get their sweet style of art on our cards!
I don't make the thumbnail art! That's Adriano Kitani!
@@sushiske oh my bad. Well someone needs to convince Adriano!
7th Edition Duress is incredible and it's a crime that art has never been reprinted
I feel like the first op should've taken out the eidilons since they basically became your wincon :p
😆 so true
Yes. Leaving in the Eidolons after game 1 against what looks like soul sisters is an odd choice. Either a really bad Burn player or it's a set up...
@@eugenevids Hi, I am the player, it was my first time with burn. People learn how to play by making mistakes, but please, never judge a player. :)
Hi Claudio. I apologize. Something just seemed too odd about the play on that game. I never want to discourage a new player. Have fun with MTG!

Hey! Just emailed about this! Been really enjoying Standard Clerics with Pyre of Heroes and Orah loops, but excited to see the tribe jump to modern!
Really want to see the non budgets version of this, there’s a lot of fun potential here
Yeah, I could see revisiting it again :)
Ive been experimenting with a wb clerics in standard! I feel like it's pretty good! Also the intro is dank as always
I don’t like trying to make the first comment but I like reading 5 different people seconds apart, thinking they do. Hehe
I...actually can make 92% of this in Historic!
Half a deck?
Yeah! Missing one Soul Sister, but most of the pieces are there.
@@MTGGoldfish sorry, it was just a runescape joke. 92 being halfway to 99 🤓
always enjoy seeing a decent deck list where I already own most of the cards
Yeah! If you own a lot of Standard stuff you can probably build this in Modern without spending much at all.
@@MTGGoldfish actually its the opposite, I own most of the modern stuff but not the standard stuff XD
Seth can't miss an opportunity to play some soul sisters
Hey! at 22:04 , what are your thoughts about pathing the sister? would have gotten you your swamp?
I would love to see a budgetless version of this deck. Clerics deserve a competitive deck to its maximum potential.
Clerics are so solid. I appreciate the love for my favorite archetype

Seth's CAKE shirt is fantastic. He do got that cake tho...
I think there's a strong case to keep the budget manabase. Fetchlands and shocklands cost life and a that's relevant for the Speaker of the Heavens and the Righteous Valkyrie. I realize they come in tapped, but Temple of Silence and Shambing Vents could be ways to help with flood.

How often do you really want to activate that Priest of the Forgotten Gods? It's kinda looking like a vanilla

If you were to upgrade this deck, how much would aether vials matter to improve the list?
how would you like crippling fear in the sideboard? a onesided sweeper for 4 mana? is that do expensive for modern?
I feel like siding in a 5-drop against burn is a bad plan. But what do I know, I'm not the guy who created the deck :P
feels like this should be a historic deck seth haha
why not path your own creature at 22:05?

Why could not rotlung reanimater not be in the pool? My very first clerics deck from back in the day added rotlung for the wrath payoff
