    Xenoblade 3 continued to be the star of the show for me in September. I'm so hooked on finishing side quests, recruiting Heroes and filling out the map that it's hard to stop.
    I also spent a lot of time with the many demos dropping; namely Star Ocean The Divine Force, Valkyrie Elysium and Harvestella.
    My hype was already high for SO, and the demo was everything I wanted, I can't wait for the full release!
    Valkyrie Elysium I was a bit more lukewarm on, doesn't seem bad or anything, but I'll definitely wait for it to go on sale.
    And maybe it's from my lack of deep experience with farm games, but I was really into the Harvestella demo. The world and characters just felt so charming, and it really took some twists I wasn't expecting

    I really just focused on playing Devil Survivor 2, and I am really enjoying the game. The gameplay is pretty similar to the one in DeSu1, but I would say it’s a bit better because of some QOL improvements and added mechanics. Story wise I definitely think that DeSu1 is better, with it having a much more tense atmosphere and IMO interesting plot, but the story in this game is still entertaining enough. The characters do get some more development with the game having the “Fate” system which is basically just social links, which is a nice addition that DeSu1 didn’t have (there were still plenty of events for each character, it’s just that in this game you get certain bonuses while in the original you just got lore and some story stuff unlocked). I’ve still got to play through other routes and the added scenario in Record breaker, but you get to speed through the game once you beat it because of various different ng+ bonuses. Also the music in both DeSu1 and DeSu2 is absolutely fantastic (both done by different composers, but equally as amazing). I’m planning for my next game to be either Atelier Sophie or Xenoblade 3, but I’m not decided yet.

    I play Falcom games sooo slowly and take everything in. In Two years I played through the Cold Steel Saga on PS4, taking a 6 month break between parts of 2 and 3.
    The last few months I've been really liking Falcom's Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ which is a blend of Trails and Y's gameplay and style. It's more action focused but still uses the orbment system and all fights take place in dungeons, but the world building and character interactions are very similar to the Trails series!
    Anywho once I finish that I super look forward to gradually playing Trails to Zero for the next 2 months or so. I tried out all the RPG demo's and found myself liking Star Ocean the most. However I also have an Affinity for the series due to loving Star Ocean 3 and 4, so I'm hoping this one can revitalize the series after the really lackluster 5th one.
    Harvestella was OK
    Diofield was GOOD
    Valkyrie was GOOD
    Star Ocean has potential to be GREAT but I'm not sure either way after the demo.

    Did you see all of the Farming Sims featured in the latest Nintendo Direct? Also the fact that Tales of Symphonia is coming to the Switch makes me happy too! I plan on getting Story of Seasons: It's A Wonderful Life for sure next year, but I plan on getting Zelda first. I'll be curious if next year we get any more info on KH4 too, but I don't expect that game to be happening for awhile. Hopefully by 2025? It be miraculous if we got it by 2024. Now if my fav JRPGs ever got new ports, (Skies of Arcadia and Eternal Sonata), I'd flip my lid!
    In September I did continue to play Rune Factory 5 and while I know it won't be my fav game I've played this year, I still really like it. I think my biggest criticism is the pacing for it's very slow.

    All of my time for the last week and a half has been consumed by a game I beat over a year ago: Trails from Zero. I'm near the end of my first playthrough right now, and it's everything I remember it being, and then some. All anyone needs to know about the quality of the trails series is that trails from zero is the first game I have ever purchased on launch day, and it's a game that I already beat with the GeoFront patch. The game is that good.
    I'm also an old Star Ocean fan, and I figured that SO5 was going to be the last one. I felt like Tri-Ace was trying to Spider-Girl it: make a game so bad that the fans would run away from the franchise and the developer could quietly discontinue the franchise without any backlash. SO3 has an extremely unique place in my heart: it's a top 25 game of all-time that I've ever played, but the "plot twist" was so terrible that it's a game I can never play again. It's too painful to know that the good stuff in the game was all leading towards that. I am deeply interested in SO6, because I love the games, and love the concept, and because I have no idea why this game is happening.
    My theory as why we're getting SO6? www.reddit.com/r/JRPG/comments/xvsgpp/triace_announces_a_huge_loss_and_decreased/
    Tri-Ace is nearly broke, so they're taking one, last swing for the fences to try to restore their fiscal solvency. If you're going to take one last swing, go with your most iconic and beloved franchise. If you're going to make an all or nothing bet, make sure you play your strongest card.

    I feel the same way you do about the Harvestella demo. I'm gonna buy it at launch though exclusively because I want Square to make a sequel. This one is going to be mediocre without a doubt, but I think if the game gets enough money they'll make the 2nd game amazing. It feels like they're going for a Sakuna of Rice and Ruin type of farm sim, and I'm 100% down with that

    You said you weren't interested Harvestella due to it being "bland." I assume that's on Switch, and I'd tend to agree based on footage I see in the demo and / or on YT. As a comparison, I found RF5 to be borderline unplayable on Switch due to performance issues. However, I bought it on Steam and the performance is fine. Would you be considering Harvestella on Steam, or is the game's style just not appealing to you regardless? I'm trying to decide whether I want to pick it up (on Steam), but I'm on the fence at the moment. The other issue I've heard about is that romance isn't an option until the game's story has been completed, which doesn't make sense, especially relative to other games, like RF5. I'd like to hear your insight. Otherwise, thanks for the excellent effort you put into the video!

    • @JRPGJungle
      @JRPGJungle  Год назад +1

      Great question, and I actually didn’t know about the romance stuff, that’s an interesting decision haha
      I think it’s also the feel of the world and story is bland to me too and now when I see the trailers (that I assume use the Steam footage), I can’t shake the feeling unfortunately. Additionally, my computer isn’t the best for gaming, so that option is kinda out for me :3 I think it will solve it for some people though, but I do think part of it is the tone of the world as a whole (again, at least for me) since I was able to enjoy Rune Factory 5 in spite of its issues :3
      The demo had no voiceover additionally which also perhaps took some colour out of it that I don’t think the writing was exciting enough to solve. For those reasons, it just didn’t jive with me yet, but im sure if it’s good when released I’ll hear about it :3 if it’s good when it’s out, definitely tell me!
      Thanks for your comment ^__^

    • @JimHamiltonIII
      @JimHamiltonIII Год назад +1

      @@JRPGJungle I think your comment is similar to others in that "what does Harvestella offer that other farming / relationship / monster-hunting sims offer that others don't?" Your answer suggests "not enough." Put another way, is the story or some other mechanic enough to distinguish it from others? Your (and others') answer suggests "no." That's why I'm on the fence. Maybe I'll compromise and pick it up on a sale but leave it alone for the time being. It's unfortunate because I want to reward companies with my money, so they'll continue to create good or great games, but the game has to be "good" in the first place. Anyway, thanks for the feedback!
