ABOUT GTA: THE TRILOGY - THE DEFINITIVE EDITION
Three iconic cities, three epic stories. Play the genre-defining classics of the original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas updated for a new generation, now with across-the-board enhancements including brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, with high-resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grand Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more, bringing these beloved worlds to life with all new levels of detail. Some of these cutscenes need lighting adjustments or artificial lights placed.

U right
exactly. Joined their stream last night, I kept my expectations low but still very disappointed.
As expected Richstar dont care to make good versions of these games, they just want people to play the new gtas, thats why every new version of the classics is worse than the previous so the people end shifting to the new gtas.. Not to mention its flashy for kids as rockstar needs to milk them too
THANK YOU, I feel like people talk too much about the char models and not the interior lighting
I’m still mixed on the draw distance thing. Yes on paper it’s better, but they also removed haze, fog, dust, smoke and mirrors stuff which gave each city its own unique atmosphere. Wish they could have a middle ground closer to PC version, improve draw distances but still trick the player into thinking the map is larger than it actually is. It’s gonna be weird being able to see Los Santos from Angel Pine
and clouds.
I'm hoping they can fix this with a software update, it's making the map seem way smaller. You're not supposed to see all the cities at once, the mystery is gone.
@@TheAprizzle92 is it even possible to do all that in an update ?
Exactly! There's this clown in a previous video that is arguing that the increased draw distance and removal of the fog isn't a problem, when it clearly is. The map looks so small now, and being able to see the desert from Los Santos is a problem.
@@nonameman7114
Nothing is impossible, but this is done by Grove Street Games. They're the ones responsible for ruining the "10 year anniversary version" that was on the PS4.

Always a buster…😞
Even in 4K, CJ can't escape from Ryder calling him a busta lol

Big smoke Piped CJ’s mom
GTA SA CJ not a busta edition
Miss the ps2 orange filter tho, it always gave me the 90's feel.
Yup. Definitely adds to the feel of the game
Definitive definitely looks better tho
A lot of movies had the orange tint during the 90s too like Bad Boys it’s cool but hey it’s new
I know exactly what you mean. Good times, good times.
Am I the only one that doesn't like it? It's too blurry for me lol
It baffles me how the PS2 art style had and still has the best atmosphere.
LS really needed that orange tint..
It worked on PS2 because it was a bit blurry and far more cartooney. The remaster does have the orange tint a bit more than other versions, but since it's a HD version, it would probably look like some apocalypse, it would probably fit less in a "realistic" world, even less than the character models.
As expected Richstar dont care to make good versions of these games, they just want people to play the new gtas, thats why every new version of the classics is worse than the previous so the people end shifting to the new gtas.. Not to mention its flashy for kids as rockstar needs to milk them too
@@maziusclavo8021 lmao dude do you hear yourself? Blinded by nostalgia and irrational hatred for the new games. The remaster removed the heatwave and fog effects because they were the result of graphical limitations, and were no longer needed. If rockstar had their way and didn’t have to deal with technical limitations back then, they probably wouldn’t have been in the game in the original releases. The remasters are fine.
@@thesaviordj1987 Just visit gtaforums and look up what people think about this, simply the worst gta version ever. How? Tf
@@1ZosoLZ the interior space of the car is completely dark and you can't see them ordering the food... Then the other scene you can't even see though the window.
Good
Some people don't remember San Andreas' cutscenes are completely live in-game, so the time of day and weather conditions apply to them.
You can test it by starting a new game, the lighting will be different every time; makes comparisons hard. The creator should've used weather cheats to make it a fairer test in that respect.
@@unsortedguy looked normal to me when I was playing that mission
Staggering how they still can't replicate the PS2 version's atmosphere.

People vastly underestimate the importance of atmosphere in videogames.
They never will. They would have to make a new game on ps2 basically.
Check out Updated Classic San Andreas for PC
Oh yeah it looked so good everything being fuckin orange lol
One thing I do feel like need to be done atleast in SA is lessen the draw distance. Should have added back the fog and such to make it feel like an actual State of San Andreas, not a huge city.
That was there cause of the hardware limitations though. I think it’s fine to see the world in a new light like this.
@@jgooner894 hell noo
@@JuriSins The draw distance was very small. Don’t think they can get away with having a load of fog which there wasn’t before either in some parts, it seemed like you were looking into the end of the world instead of fog. You can’t have that with these new graphics.

Las Venturas and the desert originally had very beautiful purple nights. In the remaster, the night skybox is the same in all cities.
At least the daytime looks better in DE with a bit of dusk
That was one of the best features of the game, every city had a special atmosphere, San Fierro was cloudy most of the time...
They just ruined the game
I agree man i miss the unique atmosphere in each area. Those varying sky colors were so cool. As well as those gorgeous purple nights, i've encountered a blood red sky a few times. Looked so insane
PS2 had glossy cars and perfect early 90s atmosphere. On 480p CRT TV it was something magical
We will never get that PS2 look. Because technical limitations often create a "look" for games. But honestly. I think the 10th anniversary is not that bad. But the realistic lighting against the janky animations and stuff character models makes it the less definitive version to play
Ps2 version is definitive version. Or pc with mods
@@skonafid Xbox version is better than ps2
@@crazyworldoutthere4379 You wouldn't know it from this video: the uploader seemingly is running the OG Xbox at a sub-native output.
Xbox ran this game at 480p, whereas the PS2 -- as was typically the case for the console -- ran the game in 480i (a notable step down in resolution).
It's dispiriting to see an uploader push false ideas about different ports; the Xbox version of this game is technically superior, yet it looks like it's running at a lower res than the PS2 version in this upload.
Rather shameful manipulation.
Wow didn't remember how low the draw distance was on the og consoles specially ps2, but It always gave me the feel that it was really big map with so much mystery behind that foggy distance.
Ps2 Version is legendary and i have a sealed one in a sealed trilogy 😁
Who wants to buy?
Yeap true, that was actually because it was easier ( due to the technical limitations back then) to make the map seem bigger than i was...so they hit two birds with one stone!

I really wish they did a San Andreas Stories game maybe where you could be Brian or Sweet in the 80s when Carl was gone would’ve been cool to see but the psp probably couldn’t handle the size of the map or amount of features but they did port those to ps2 so they could’ve made that an exclusive or something
in 2011 i wanted to buy a ps vita because i expected gta sa stories to come out on it :D
I mean GTA LCS and VCS with cutscenes and few other mechanisms ( specially cheats ) made the game badass with an hardware limit being good * btw wouldn’t Brian still had to explore SF , LV and other areas ? Unless you only play in LS City only
There's a dyom mod for that
The PSP would very well be able to handle it, it's just that they decided to work on other projects instead. Unfortunately, since the chance for that game to be made was missed a long time ago, it will never happen now.
man they could've done more with this remaster. Adding pedestrian density, adding ragdoll physics, faster transition in buying items, cutscene ligthing, fogs. This "Definitive Edition" only look and feel like a mod, with pre-2010 hardware demand.
I agree
Pedestrian density is the biggest disappointment to me. The cities still look lifeless and empty, with all the new hardware they could have had streets full of NPCS!
They already talked about why they didn't mess with it much. go read the interview they did with rockstar.

The only changes this game needed, in my opinion, is the PC version's resolution and the PS2 version's lighting. That's all I want. I think the Definitive Edition looks pretty bad, actually. Individually, everything looks pretty good, but together it just doesn't fit. Not just the characters vs environment, but just everything in general. It looks like models and textures were taken from a bunch of different sources and put together without any alteration to actually blend. Kinda like a mobile game. It just looks wrong.

You also get it on the PS4 version.
That yellow sunset atmosphere is so characteristic...
Yeah, I sure loved not being able to see more than 30 feet infront of me and everything being so blurry that you had to use your imagination for what stuff was supposed to be
50/50, there's a reason why people prefer the PS2 version the most. Look at the price of the PS2 version on Ebay mint condition, some of them have reached almost $1500 overnight. I have the PS4 version, it's the "10 year anniversary" made by Grove Street Games, a lot of people hate it. It's just not the same and a lot of content is missing.

0:35 - It's interesting that they didn't really remake that cop seal thingy in some way.
It looks like they processed the original texture through one of those neutral network algo based upscalers - there's some pretty characteristic artifacting particularly on the text.
(The rest is still fine, but at least the text could've easily been remade, cause issues are most visible on it - they're a big point that those scalers still struggle with.)
