    Way to go, man. The Lord provides the fish and the stick and fishing was one of His favourite activities.

    OMG why didn't I ever see this before? This is so awesome!!! I had a really nice 2lb bluegill today that swallowed my hook and I had to take it home because I knew it wouldn't survive because I had to cut my line since it swallowed it. If I had watched this before, I would've thrown it back since it's spawning season right now. This will save so much in the future. Thanks a ton!!

      Just to be clear, I haven't tried this natural hook remover on treble hooks (in case you use treble hooks in your trout fishing. But if your using single/standard hooks, this is a great hack. :-)

    I've actually used it before, but I didn't know about the twirling technique. Usually, I try to simply back it out, but sometimes it gets caught again, and I have to play with it a little to get it out. I'm definitely going to try that.

    A gift from our Lord and Savior. I catfish, so I hope it works on channel catfish. The hook might be too big for that "spin the fish" thing. I'll try it though. Thank you!

    Try circle hooks! They usually hook in the lip, and help to avoid gut hooking.

      I hook many fish with circle hooks in guts..what a frustration removing a circle hook

    • @chriskodani2543
      @chriskodani2543 Год назад +3

      @@stompievandermerwe304 I used to have this problem too, until I noticed that the smaller mouthed species like bluegills weren’t being gut hooked, whereas the bigger mouthed species like bass were. Adjusting the size of your hooks to the size of your target species can help considerably. Also, if you search on RUclips, there are videos on how to remove circle hooks that are deep in the fish.
      Keep in mind that circle hooks are just one way to reduce fish mortality. Fly fishing is also a technique that reduces gut hooking. Even with J hooks, flies tend to hook in the lip because of the closer distance and quicker hook set when fly fishing.

      @@chriskodani2543 I fly fish for pan fish, bass and trout. I pinch all my barbs and I rarely lose a fish. I also gear fish for bass, after gullet hooking a few fish using soft plastics I started pinching all my barbs. My theory is if your doing catch and release fishing make it as easy as possible to release the fish unharmed. To a great extent those are the ethics of most fly fisherman.

    I am wondering is how does this do for circle hooks?

    • @iowapanfishing6835
      @iowapanfishing6835  Год назад +1

      Using a stick as a hook remover is primarily for removing hooks from panfish. I probably wouldn't use a circle hook for panfish. So, I've never run into that issue.
      How would you remove a circle hooked from a gut-hooked fish?

    • @BobelPop
      @BobelPop Год назад +1

      @@iowapanfishing6835 I'm wondering the same. I've had that problem when fishing for saltwater catfish. I've used a makeshift dehooker & it was a challenge & still did some damage & the circle hook was barbless.

  • @gregm8941
    @gregm8941 Год назад +2

    If you would just use circle hooks you wouldn't gut hook them to begin with.
